Azha had been sorting through what was left. So many of their traditions hadn't actually been recorded, they had been done by Physical learning and memorization. Azha being the eldest next to only two was quite troubled but.. There was much work to do. Their loss had been heavy so many had just vanished or died. The answer was unclear... Neither the stars nor moon spoke to her about it. She sighed. Her own son with his mate was taking up leading the herd, with the help of the other two oldest members. He was the eldest son of the herd's matriarch that remained still with them. Azha had a close relationship with the herd's matriarch, close enough to produce children and one of her sons had been lost with the rest. Her daughter she had no Idea where she'd gone, she'd seldom see the child.
The Blue mare continued her work It was a good think she'd remembered everything, She was the head diviner now. She'd not make the same mistake. She'd have everything recorded for the future. Lest an attack from the shadow came to take them once again. At least that was the rumor the leaders had all gone to protect them from the shadow herd. But there was no proof in the matter, no sign of struggle nothing, they'd vanished like they never existed at all. But the proof of their existence was still there, the odd child that lived was proof they were alive. However, each child seemed troubled.
Azha had watched Arei raise her children from a distance, What they'd had was nothing as her former lovers reappeared. Azha was left to focus on her own children. Azha had done her best to raise her three children equally though, even from among her own one had been singled out as her favourite. Azha couldn't bear to watch most of the time as some of her children remained neglected. Lore being among her favorite. Sighing as she continued her work. It was a shame all of the children had such a great potential and Azha could only do so much. Azha tried her best when they came to her. Recently she'd been seeing Dubhslaine around but he hadn't come to talk to her yet. Azha when she was with her son Tenar, she'd catch a glimpse of the stallion watching her from time to time. She had a small inkling about what he wanted.

Dubh was still feeling light after his experiences earlier that night. It was hard not to. It wasn't every day that a Sign walked into one's life and so drastically reformed it. It wasn't every day that one got purged of the darkness that had ruled their life. And he could feel it. The darkness was gone from the gem on his forehead.
However, that did not guarantee that the members of his herd would welcome him back so easily. His family had disappeared recently, and while he missed them dearly, they had still been the ones to tell him that he was a herald of doom.
Who did he talk to about this sudden change in his life? Who would listen?
Dubhslaine came to the edge of one stand of the trees that peppered the herd lands. The moon was setting, hanging low in the sky. And ahead of him was a familiar figure, the moonlight bathing the stars on her coat with light.
Azha. Head Diviner. Mother to some of his half-siblings. One of the most respected Stars in the entire herd. A mare whom he gathered loved her own family dearly.
Would she accept her stepson and his mystical changes into her life? Would she help him adapt to the herd anew, in the wake of tonight's events?
Dubh hurried to the royal blue Arcturus mare, feline ears perked, feline tail swishing anxiously.

Azha smiled at the stallion as he approached it was rare for him to come, to her. He having inherited Arei's curse seemed to stay at a far distance. Azha never shunned her own child for the Same thing, her purple daughter too had inherited the curse, but she loved her just the same. She would treat him no different, after all he too was family, he was Tenar's brother. It thrilled her to see him come to her, she had been wondering how to approach him herself. He seemed quite anxious, now what could it be?
"Good evening Dubhslaine." She greeted him warmly touching her horn to his. She had to fear of Arei's curse she never had. She'd always seen past it. Perhaps that was the initial reason she'd come to care for the mare back during that early time. Azha still respected the mare in some ways but not in others.
As she observed him, He seemed quite... "What happened?" something was different. very different. The darkness that usually hung around the children with the gems embedded into their forehead. Dub's was gone. Her eyes widened a bit in surprise. As she suddenly started inspecting the child like a mother hen. She wasn't His mother but... she couldn't help it. It never really left her.

Dubh froze instinctively as Azha reached out to touch her lighter amethyst horn to his misshapen, darker amethyst horn. A leftover of his mother's upbringing. As a cursed individual, he shouldn't risk hurting an innocent. But he wasn't cursed anymore. The darkness was gone. There was no need for this.
Dubh unclenched, noticeably. There was no reason to fear. Not after his interaction with the Sign.
"H--h--hello, Lady Azha," he replied uncertainly.
Dubh caught her surprised expression. The old fear tried to seize him again. In retrospect, Arei had done her cursed children no favors by treating them the way she had. She had probably made a bad problem worse, possibly even guaranteeing her own worst fears by socially isolating her cursed children. From what Dubh had seen, Azha wasn't like that. She loved all her children equally.
He took a deep, cautious breath.
"I had...a visitation. Just now. From someone who could banish the darkness. She told me she was the Sign Aquarius."

Cursed or not Azha greeted him the same way she did her daughter and sons. Cursed or not. But the vanishing darkness surprised her, Pleasantly. That meant there would be a way for Aelynaria to cure her darkness too. Not that the child was very dark, Solemn more so. The sign Aquarius herself? What that even possible? Azha had believed the old legends but they had been silent for so long. Where they finally returning?
Azha smiled ad Dubhslaine once she finished looking the young stallion over. This was something to be celebrated. "That's something special Dubhslaine, to have met Lady Aquarius and have her purge your darkness that means you siblings with similar afflictions have hope as well." This was big along with both Dubhslaine being cured and the signs returning.
"We must tell the herd Dubhslaine, this is very important." she gave him a motherly nuzzle of congratulations. "The signs are returning Dubhslaine." Azha began to contemplate looking upon the stars "As you know the herd is one of the eldest aside the Sunflare and belief in the signs have been waning for some time, they've become long forgotten in a sense." She paused "They haven't been seen since before the great starfall perhaps Perhaps this is a promise after our great loss." she mused her eyes lighting up. "If we help those remember them..."

Dubh blinked owlishly. Was this what acceptance was all about? Smiles, touchy-feely, conversation, and all that? Sure, he'd've been happy just not being told he was cursed all the time. Slowly, the dark stallion began to smile, a fragile smile, muscles unused to the gesture in long years pulling consciously at his lips.
If this was what life was like without the curse, Dubh wanted to see more.
"She was quite kind," he murmured softly, slightly startled at the sudden nuzzling. "And beautiful," he added, almost as an afterthought. "I've never seen a Star like her before." Would he ever meet another Sign after this? Deep down, he hoped so. If Lady Aquarius had been this powerful an experience and influence, he was definitely open to interacting more with the Signs, getting to know them better.
Important? Belief waning?
"Really? But even I heard stories about them as a foal. Who wouldn't know about the Signs? And have they really been gone that long?" Dubh stopped himself short, a touch sharply. Even if things were looking up for him, the young Arcturus didn't want to push his sudden, new-found luck too far.

Azha couldn't help but chuckle a little at Dubh's reaction. The child had so little interaction with anyone, and to be ignored by his mother and cursed by her lineage. She was pleased to see him open up even a little
"The signs are very special and many of them are quite beautiful, even those who are fierce" she agreed "at least from the stories I know." Azha glanced to the elegant sky "Such are the gods and goddesses of the world." settling her attention back to Dubh she continued to listen to the young stallion. she was surprised Arei had even spoken of the signs to her child, or perhaps, it was when she'd told stories. Azha wondered; she was the head diviner now and was glad to have learned all she could from the heads at the time. Could one of them have said something? It didn't really matter now did it. Azha gave Dubh a motherly smile.
"No one has seen them for many years, even the oldest of heard leaders Lugh they occasionally leave a mark of blessing upon those who have earned it your older brother is one example." she said referring to her eldest son Tenar. "But even he hadn't told me what transpired." She glanced over to the central area where they held their rituals. "We could do with a library our knowledge on the signs despite this herd being quite old leaves much to be desired, this place is rich with magic and mystery that we know very little about." she paused "this could be why a sign appeared here in the first place or perhaps the lady Aquarius heard your silent requests to be freed from your mother's curse."

Dubh flushed under the darkness of his coloration at the chuckle. But the gentle smile didn't seem to leave his stepmother's face, so he didn't seize up much before relaxing. Azha seemed to accept him, as Arei never really had shown signs of doing. There was no reason to fear or pull away from the Arcturus mare. Not just yet. Maybe never again.
What Azha said about the signs made sense. Aquarius had indeed come across as special and beautiful, even powerful. Gods and goddesses? That would definitely match what he'd experienced with Aquarius, even if it was not the terminology generally applied to the Signs. There was a motherly smile, and Dubh's heart warmed at the sight.
He blinked. "No one?" Actually, that made sense, too. None of the stories of the Signs seemed at all recent, so it made sense, that no one had seen a Sign in a very long time. And the mark upon Tenar's shoulder...he'd seen it. The cyan shape of Leo. A blessing? Well, it had kinda magically appeared one day. And since the Signs were real, it was as logical an explanation as anything else about the Signs. Plus, wasn't Leo a Fire Sign? And Tenar had shown some fire magic recently, something that no Arcturus, or Alcor, normally possessed.
"A library sounds good. Others could learn about the Signs, too, and we could pool together what everyone knows, about the Signs, and about magic, and, well...everything else really," he said slowly, in agreement. "I was sort of resting by myself at the edge of one of the ponds, trying to sleep and get out of my own head when she appeared. Have you heard other such stories as mine?" he asked, curiously.

Azha was very proud of her son, despite everything he had grown up very well. Her stepson too was now stepping onto a proper path. She continued to smile fondly at the stallion. He would definitely make everyone proud one day she could tell. He didn't shy away from her either the mare noticed.
Azha Nodded "the signs have been very elusive in recent years, only now they have begun returning to this world actively. she then added mysteriously "that's what I have been hearing from the stars." She did eventually want to press her son for what happened but perhaps a bit latter once the herd was back up on it's own four feet.
"We should have been writing our stories down since long ago, it is far to easy to forget them." the mare lamented, there was much knowledge that might have been lost along the way. The former heard leader only seemed to believe in their oral tradition. Perhaps though, she mused before speaking to Dub "When we set up the library do tell me about the Lady Sign you met in detail I would love for that to be one of the first stories we record."
