Awareness came slowly - painfully slowly - and it brought with it pain, and memories of the rough, uphill battle he had fought against the Mars Knight. The battle that for all he knew - was still raging around him. With a loud, painful grunt, he forced his eyes open, bringing a hand up to his head as he forced himself up into a sitting position.

He was shocked to find himself in Negaspace. Turning his gaze to around him, he noticed the half-youma general, likewise having been downed nearby. He did not sense any other signatures nearby, so as best he could figure it had been Cinnabar who had extracted him before she had succumb to her own wounds.

Grunting a bit, he reached out to gently shake her. "Hey," He grunted. "General Cinnabar... You alright?"

She had technically saved him from either becoming a prisoner or worse - and for that he owed her. The least he could do was make sure she was okay.

The sprawling form of the half-youma general lay face down on the hard stone of the citadel, fallen where she had landed.

Leaving the battle had been difficult. Partly because she was forced to flee the battle, running from that b*****d of a Mars knight and leaving Schorl behind to face the masses virtually alone. The other part was more of a physical nature, and was why she was here and not sleeping it off in her own large, comfortable bed: she’d simply been too beaten to continue the fight, and barely able to get herself and Leucite out of there before she joined him in unconsciousness. That last teleport had been made on fumes and a prayer, there had been nothing left to get her down to her suite of rooms.

Out of the void, a hand came to land on her prone body and shook her, jerking her up out of the wrapping darkness to bright, aching life. Red-black eyes flew wide open, pupils in slits, and a harsh, rattling growl of warning ripped from her throat as she tensed, gaze unfocused and body tight as a coiled spring. Her surroundings were unfamiliar, as was the voice speaking to her, and for a wild moment, the youma in her screamed THREAT as she jerked out of his hand and rolled, coming up on hands and knees to a rattle of chains and heavy leather. It took a moment of staring blankly at the man lying on the ground in front of her before Cinnabar’s snarl faded and she slowly, warily relaxed. Just a little.

Where am I? The battle… Scholomance… that b*****d knight… Recognition dawned as she backed down completely, the humanity in her returning to push down the monster again.

Leucite should have probably known better than to shake her awake like that, his hands moving quickly back toward his own body held up in a defensive - but open - gesture to try and calm her down. The last thing he wanted was to get bitten - or clawed, or attacked in any fashion.

"Whoa, whoa... It's alright, it's just me, General Leucite - we met briefly at the Special Operations meeting awhile back. You know, when I backed you up in your dissent against the General-Queen." He kept his voice calm, letting it stick to the lower registers to try to be as soothing as possible.

"I was unconscious so I don't know what happened after that berserk Mars Knight took me down, but evidence suggests that you extracted me from the battle. I'm not sure where we are - I think somewhere in Negaspace if I have to take a guess - I'm not sensing any order signatures around so..."

He was pretty sure they were safe. "But, I just wanted to say, thank you - I owe you one."

He held out a hand warily, as if to shake. "I was wondering if you could fill me in on what happened after I got dropped? Were we forced to flee the field entirely, do you know?"

The fact that she looked to be in just as worst shape as he was was not giving him high hopes.

Body aching, Cinnabar lowered herself to sit on her heels, legs splayed less than gracefully. The snarl faded off her face, but there was still a frown there, creasing her brow as the pupils of her eyes returned to a more human, round shape. She sighed, watching Leucite trying to calm her like some kind of wild animal, some part of her mind whispering; like you deserve, because its what you are, isn’t it?

She scrubbed her face with the heel of her hand, feeling gritty from the floor and the blood from the fight.

“Sorry.” She said, her voice a roughened rumble. “I know who you are, I just… sometimes the youma in me is strong. Especially when I’m not fully awake." A glance confirmed they were in the citadel, but it was a random sort of spot, right in the bare middle of a hallway. Not so far from her rooms, but enough. Her mouth twisted, thinking about the battle she left behind, and she shrugged.

“The Bull carried you in and tried to threaten Schorl with you.” She snorted, an unspoken Idiot hanging on the end. “I summoned some youma, ate one… then the rest is a great big blank. Next thing I know, I’m down and nearly out, you’re laying nearby and that ******** is about ready to tear us a new one. I slapped a hand on you and popped us both here. I know as much as you do past that point.”

They could call Schorl through the communicators, but she was wary of doing that. The green lion didn’t need a distraction if she was still in the thick of it, and if she had fallen and not been retrieved… Cin didn’t want to think about that.

“You got someone to call who might know? The fight could still be going for all I know, I have no idea how long we were out.” She said, filing away that little ‘I owe you one’ for later. She had no idea what the general could do for her, she barely knew him other than he had been part of Spec Ops and was running a training corps. He’d been one of the ones who’d chimed in when she’d rebelled against Hess, which put him a step up, in her opinion. The fact that he was still in Gen Ops as another plus for him, since going back would have meant reconciling with the General Queen.

It still stung that their Queen had sided with her, despite everything Cinnabar had done, everything she had sacrificed.

"I do, but if there's still combat going on, I'd be loathe to call her now. I entered the area with my Adjutant, Captain Stibnite." Leucite said, reaching up to pinch the bridge of his nose for a moment as he tried to think back to what had happened during the fight with the Mars Knight. Stibnite had gone ahead - he figured she'd of sought him out as soon as she'd run into any trouble but he'd engaged the knight so...

"How are you feeling?" He asked, then, looking over to Cinnabar with something akin to compassion and empathy. He worked on getting back on his feet, using the wall as support before he reached a hand out to help her up if she needed the assist.

"Do you need to hit the infirmary, or?" He asked, unsure if she felt the need for medical assistance or not.

It was no good then, calling anyone, until they knew the battle was over. It grated on her. She hated being side-lined, but if she couldn't even teleport back, then she was no good for fighting anyway. Reaching to fiddle in her pocket, she gave the other general a lopsided smirk, waving off the hand he offered when he rose.

"I'm sore as ********, but I'll be fine." She said as she pulled a starseed from her pocket. She displayed it between her thumb and forefinger before she popped it into her mouth and bit down. A shudder ran through her, rumbling in her chest, and energy came back in a sweet, seductive rush. It stopped the bleeding too, which was a bonus.

There was a spring to her when she rocked up onto her feet, refreshing her clothes of blood and grime with a quick resummon.

"One benefit to being half youma, I guess... I heal pretty fast. You should probably go though, let them patch you up. You have a public face that needs to look good. I haven't had that since I was a lieutenant."

Leucite watched her pull the starseed from her pocket and swallow it down, doing the best he could to suppress the innate revulsion that welled up in him from making it's way to his face. Energy was one thing - but a starseed was something else. Not that he was one to judge as he'd consumed one himself, one and only one, but he'd consumed it all the same. Of course, he'd done that to keep himself from fainting away on the spot from pain from the injury he'd sustained but that was beside the point. The all encompassing guilt he'd felt from consuming what was essentially the entire essence of another being - their soul... Was more than his dogmatic mind could bear.

Which had led to the Rosary of strange construction that now hung on the sash on his hip. Seven days in the Rift had been an eye opening experience to the then captain. Seven days had solidified his worldview.

"Yes, it is, that," He replied to her, having nodded to her other statements. He did his best to keep his personal view of Half-Youma from rising to the surface, and in Cinnibar's case, from what he'd understood it wasn't her choice. But then, who would willingly CHOOSE to become an ungodly abomination. Not quite man, not quite angel. Still...

"I'll head over there in due course - firstly I need to get back to my office and see if my adjutant has returned." He said with a grimace. If she had - he was sure he was going to get an earful...

There was a stiffness to him she would have missed if she hadn't been looking for a reaction from him. Most officers were squeamish of the small, bright soul-jewels... and once, she had been too. It was another mark for him that he, mostly, suppressed his cringe and disapproval. She wouldn't have stopped even if he'd voiced a protest, but he knew when to keep his mouth shut.

Starseeds were a resource, just like lives were a resource, and starseeds keep her going, moving, being an effective officer... as much as she could be these days. They were the difference between useful and useless, and when Cinnabar had to choose between her own life and that of an enemy, of cattle?

It wasn't much of a choice.

"Keep me updated, if you would? I'll do the same when I hear anything." She glanced down the hall, already working through what needed to be done and what her next steps were. "Oh, and Leucite, if you see that Mars knight again?"

Cin shifted as a low rumble rolled through her chest, swinging red eyes back with a feral edge.

"Call me, would you? We've got history, me and him. I would jump at a chance to take him down for good... or bring him back into the fold. It would be fine justice to see him wearing a uniform again."

"I'll keep you informed - if I hear anything, that is." Leucite said with a nod as he started to move the other direction from her rooms when her next statement caused him to stop and turn back to face her fully.

"I will attempt to do so, but I make no promises. If I get caught up in the heat of the moment and go after him...." He shrugged a bit as if to say - oh well.

"But if I do capture him... I do intend to bring him back in chains if I can. I will be more than happy to give you some alone time with him before he bring him back into the fold." He added with a small grin. "Would that be fair?"

She smiled as he turned back, unconcerned by his half-hearted promise.

"I understand the difficulties in... restraint." She said as she lifted and dropped her shoulders, making her chains rattle. "I appreciate you keeping me in mind though. We go... way back."

Five years, really. Or a thousand. If they weren't all just lying to her, which she was inclined to think.

"As long as he's taken down, I suppose I can't complain. If you're in a position to let me ask him a few questions, I would appreciate the opportunity." She tossed him a jaunty salute, pressing fingertips to her brow, before she turned to go.

"I'll keep an ear out for your all clear." Cinnabar called over her shoulder as she headed down the hall, her hands tucked comfortably into her pockets as though she wasn't exhausted and bruised. She could collapse again in the safety of her own rooms, and probably sleep another full day.

Lecuite nodded, and snapped back a quick salute of his own. "I think that should be doable." He said with a not, before letting her leave.

Turning, he quickened his pace toward his office. Hopefully his Captain would be there and he could gather more information about what had happened. Then they could start planning the next step...
