Mathematics Taught by Cesian for Academy students of all ages 
Rules:

"Today, we're going to talk about prime numbers. Let's see how high you can count using only prime numbers."
Rules:

 March 2017 Math Prompt "I'd like you to tell me how you've most recently used Mathematics in your everyday life." Rules: Have your student tell me how they've recently used Math to solve something in their lives. (This can be extremely detailed or a mundane use, up to you!) I use Math often in my life, mostly for budgeting and sometimes for bargaining. Money is a focal point in my life, and thus I have to know if I am getting cheated or am getting a good deal. I also need to know math when it comes to planning large events - how much of this or that to get, how many people this or that venue can hold, etc. There's so much math in my life that going through every single one would cause my brain to likely implode.Luno turned in his written essay and sighed. The assignment was... good? Unique at least. The Nightmare was thankful it wasn't so hard. A test would have been too much, especially with how stressed he felt with graduation coming up.

 March 2017 Math Prompt "I'd like you to tell me how you've most recently used Mathematics in your everyday life." Rules: Have your student tell me how they've recently used Math to solve something in their lives. (This can be extremely detailed or a mundane use, up to you!) I use math regularly for simple things like counting change when I buy a coffee, of course, but most recently I used it for a personal social experiment. It was a statistics thing; I calculated the ratio of people in relationships in my class last year and then figured out a few things. This included whether they remained together at the end of the year, the percentage of them that were happy at the end of the year and the percentage of individuals who were happy who weren't in relationships. I found some pretty interesting results, and I plan on keeping up this experiment this year too; the longer the study, the more concrete the results! Of course, I couldn't get any results at all if it weren't for math.
Desdemona looked at her essay with a small frown. Did it sound like she was trying to suck-up? But it was true, she did value math. Anyway, maybe the teacher would be interested in her experiment and offer suggestions or improvements? If she wanted to be a behavioural psychologist, she'd have to take advice where she could get it. With a meek smile she handed in her essay, glad that she had the opportunity to share her hobbies with others, even if it was a teacher.

March 2017 Math Prompt "Today I'd like to see how high you can count using 5s!" Rules: Have your student count as high as they can using 5s! (example 5, 10, 15. etc) Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. .  Caraway listened to the teacher talk about counting by 5's she could count pretty high so she was pretty sure she would be fine. Caraway started counting "5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.." Then she paused thinking of the next part then she went on to do a few more but she went slower thinking about the bigger numbers. "35, 40, 45, 50." Caraway stopped at 50 she was a little uncomfortable going any higher in front of the rest of the class she didn't want anyone to feel bad if they couldn't count very high. Caraway looked on curiously at the teacher she hadn't meet any members of their race before.

Malik had a good head for counting he didn't have to see clearly to learn to count so it was no problem for him and something he could do with confidence. "5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100." Malik said easily and then said back down he had learned that with his dads and his mommy. Malik didn't really think anything of any races since everyone to him was a blur so everyone was just sounds and scents. Malik didn't have many visual cues to work off of.

(example 5, 10, 15. etc) Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. .  "5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65" Alto spoke up. He could go higher. Counting by five was one of the more easier things. After all, All you had to do was add a 5 or a zero to the number. You could end up with some silly number like 244554325. However that would take forever to count up to. Yeah 65 was a solid number to stop on. Come to think of it why where they on counting? Ah well he supposed it was an easy review for him.

Arinas knew math wasn't his best subject so it was with a large sigh of relief when the assistant gave the assignment for the day. He liked in life questions because it was a rather easy answer for him. Of course sitting there in relief would get the assignment done. one of the special things in my family we like to do is cooking or baking. In fact just this Morning before coming to school, I helped dad make cookies for the rest of my siblings' lunches. Cooking is very math oriented especially if you use a recipe. The recipes actually only gives you the amount for 8 cookies but my family has a slight sweet tooth so we need to make way more than 8 cookies. So I was using multiplication when I calculated how much more of an ingredient I wanted to use, and I was using fractions when measuring out how much of and ingredient to use Okay so it wasn't the most detailed response, but it was a response right?

Luxton made an extremely unattractive face as he scrunched it together to remember the numbers. "5, 10, 15, 20, 25..." he trailed off a little as he tried to remember what came next. Luxton had to count from 25 to 30 in ones in his head before saying "30" out loud and continuing "35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100!" it got easier once he really got into the groove of things. He didn't know any more than that, but Luxton was pretty impressed with himself and how high he had managed to get all on his own.

Counting by fives as high as you could go? That wasn't very specific...or challenging. She already knew, in theory, how to count to one thousand. Once she'd mastered 1 thru 100 the rest was simple, albeit tedious, repetition. Well she was pretty sure the teacher would stop her before she got to that point anyway, so she'd keep it simple for now. "5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100," she recited in the kind of toneless, dry voice you hear in educational documentaries, professional but detached. Her pause was quite deliberate and she waited a few moments, then sat back down in her seat.

(example 5, 10, 15. etc) Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment.  Artemus cocked their head to the side like they were pondering the question. Like most of the students before them they had a basic understanding of numbers and could count from 1 to 100 without too much trouble. Actually working math with those numbers was a different story (they weren't bad, but double digits required their full attention), but counting was fine. Artemus wasn't pondering the question so much as the point of the lesson. Surely there was one. Perhaps the teacher was hoping to learn who seemed to be doing well with numbers and who might need some extra help. Or....well, any number of things, but if they kept pondering it would hold up the class and make the teacher upset. They took another moment to debate how far to go with their counting, settled on a number, then, in a voice as toneless and dry as the Litch before them, began counting. "5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75."

Vincent pondered the question for a moment, trying to remember when was the last time he used any kind of numbers. He didn't have to wrack his brain for too long, though he wasn't sure if the circumstance was valid or not. Well, one way to find out. My mother and I take turns cooking our meals, and yesterday was my turn. I found an interesting recipe for chicken, but I decided to make it with tofu instead. The recipe also written for several portions, but I was only feeding two people. First I had to look at the quantity for all the ingredients and divide it all by 3, so that it was a meal for two instead of 6. Some of the numbers didn't divide perfectly, so I just rounded up to the nearest usable number since I'd rather have a little to much than not quite enough. Once I figured out how much of the ingredients I needed and wrote it down I went to the store. I then had to find the chicken and figure out how much two breasts approximately weighed, so that I would know how much tofu I should use for the substitute. Usually I would just make the whole recipe and keep everything else for leftover meals, but I wasn't sure how my mother would feel about the tofu substitution so I went through the trouble of all the math to make sure there wouldn't be any leftovers this time.He penned the entire assignment in his neat handwriting, head bent over the paper as he wrote. He could probably have added more, since he also baked a cake that night just in case the tofu was a disaster, but Vincent figured what he already had would suffice.

Florence had to think about it for a moment, lightly tapping his pencil against the paper. He honestly couldn't think of a situation in which he used numbers in his day, except in tasks so mundane he really had to wrack his brain to dredge up the memories. His essay was a bit stilted and random, at least to him, and shorter than he would have liked, but it would just have to do. I mostly used math when I purchase things. Not really big things, mostly gardening supplies or snacks. If I have change with me I usually try to do exact change. My dad makes clothing and other stuff. I'm not good at it like he is, but sometimes when he needs help with simple stuff I'll help him. It's things like measuring out the proper yardage and inches. Even though I can't make clothes, I have a pretty good idea of how much fabric you would need for it based on your measurements. I also use a little math if I'm helping my family in the kitchen, like measuring cups and fractions for how much of a piece of food I need, though I'm not good at cooking so I don't help much with that. I do use a little math when gardening, measuring out how big a particular space is and how many plants and what kinds of plants it could probably support, though I do it all in my head in such a way that I'm not sure I could really describe how I actually use the math.Florence looked over his paper, wincing a little, but it was honestly all he could think of and if he tried to do anything else to it it would probably come off as even worse rambling. Time to call it done and turn it in.

I use a little math when I run, though I guess it's also being in check with my body. I can usually tell from how I feel how far of a run I can make on some days, and on other days I keep track of how far I run and measure it against how I feel to set the goal for how far I'd like to try to go that day. In the same theme, I also use math to figure how much I should probably be eating in a day, or what particular things I might have to increase or cut back on. It's very important for me to be precise with my body because I can get sick quite easily, especially during the colder months, and keeping my body at its best helps me fight off illnesses. Of course no matter how hard I try I always seem to catch at least one cold per year, but usually more. Then I use numbers for medicine, when it's kind that goes by your weight instead of your age.Laurel looked over her paper and hoped it didn't come off as sounding weird or implausible. She'd actually never thought about how often she used numbers in correlation with her health, but the more she wrote the more she realized just how much math in a day she used. It made her feel a bit proud, even if she was also worried whether it was enough for her to pass the class. There were kinds of divination that used numbers, but she wasn't good at those and the assignment had been more about daily use than every now and then.

(example 5, 10, 15. etc) Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Ayida couldn't hide the frown on her face. She wasn't very good at Math, and she knew her previous scores were definitely showing that. She couldn't help but squirm uncomfortably in her seat when it became her turn to speak. "5... 10... 15..." She already began to struggle, trying to wrack her brain for more numbers to come to her. She couldn't help but feel the teacher's eyes on her. "20... 25..." She knew it was a lot less than other children were doing, but she seriously couldn't think of the next step, especially not with so many eyes on her. When the eyes finally moved from her she felt relief wash over her, her heart finally starting to calm down from all the pounding it had been doing.
