It was early enough that the city was quiet, with only the odd person out and about.

Well make that the odd person and what on the face of it appeared to be a cat padding confidently down the sidewalk about its business.

And whilst on first glimpse the small tabby bobtail appeared to be ordinary enough, someone taking a closer look might have have noticed the jade green star set on its forehead or the jewellery worn on both tail and one of its front paws.

Liryn as it happened was on his way to HQ, although he was in no real hurry to make his way over, which was resulting in him taking small detours.

The first such detour had been in the form of a pile of junk that had looked interesting but had yielded very little.

The second…

The second had come in a flash of aura, small as to be almost barely noticeable and it was this aura that he was currently attempting to track down.

Mel had been bored. Nothing on tv for a few more days, at least nothing he wanted to watch. Siti was doing school work or something. It had to do with numbers, or maybe a paper or some kind of book, it didn't really matter since Mel didn't understand it. Couldn't help her with it at all. So he slipped out and was even now wandering the streets just enjoying himself. Window shopping and just checking out the area, at least he was until something caught his eye.

Squirrel!

The guardian barely kept himself from shouting in excitement as he gave chase. He wasn't looking to hurt the creature. He just liked the chase and was having a grand old time. At least until he lost the gray rodent in a small park, much to his disappointment. Poo. Now what was he to do for amusement?

Quote:
Liryn had continued to sense the small flash of aura as he made his way down the sidewalk, although it seemed to be hit and miss.

He lost it for a bit as he made his way down an alleyway and then picked up again as he passed a cafe that was still closed, the hour too early for it to be open.

He was pretty sure that the aura belonged to a fellow mauvian and somewhat sure that it was an Order mauvian - because he thought that he had sensed a spark of warmth to the aura.
But tracking auras was never an exact science and tracking mauvian auras was even more tricky given the size of the aura - at least when said mauvian was in cat form.

Eventually however his aura tracking finally paid off, Liryn spotting the other feline as he padded through a park in the hopes of taking a shortcut.

He padded over to the bigger cat, his voice cheerful as he called out a cheerful "Hi."

Mel stared up into the the tree his furry friend had raced up, wishing there were branches low enough he could use to climb up but apparently luck was not on his side. So instead he had planted his butt on the ground and waited to see if the squirrel would come back down. At Least he did till a voice called out making Mel jump and look around. It didn't take a genius to spot the cat coming towards him, and boy was Mel no genius, but he still looked all around to figure out where the voice came from… and who it was directed to. It didn't occur to the guardian that the other cat was talking to him.

It took a bit but it did finally connect! The neurons did finally spark and a wide smile crossed the savannah’s face. “Hey! Did you see the squirrel? I chased the squirrel up the tree, sadly he hasn't come down yet. That's a pretty collar. Is that bracelet gold? Does it ever fall off?” His questions quickly piled up as he stood up, taking a moment to stretch, before bounding over to the other guardian. “What are you doing out? Is your senshi about? Do you have a senshi? What's their name? What's your name? I'm Mlinzi but everyone just called me Mel… or nuisance. I've gotten called fur ball before too. Also dumbass, monster, and other things but you can call me Mel.”

Quote:
Liryn hadn’t meant to take the other cat by surprise, a part of him having assumed that the other would have picked up on his aura such as it was - after all sensing auras was a two-way thing and whilst his aura in this form was slight, it still existed.

"No I didn’t" he admitted since he’d been trying to track auras rather than squirrels, although he did give the indicated tree an interested look "I’ve only just got here and I think the bracelet is bronze" although Liryn wasn’t really sure.

It had been there when he finally awakened to himself, although he wasn’t sure if it meant that it had always been there.

"And it’s nice to meet you Mel - I’m Liryn and I do have a senshi - his name is Athene."

Actually Liryn considered himself to have several senshi, but there were quite a few senshi that the small tabby bobtail considered in part his - including every one of the senshi that he had helped to awaken - however he assumed that Mel was talking about Athene.

Quote:
Mel listened with fascination as the other guardian started to answer his questions. He actually answered them all. That was rare! Most just answered some or none or one. There was even a time when a guy with wings said he would answer them later but he never did, not that Mel remembered the questions he had asked.

“Can I call you Ryn… or would Li be better? Liryn. Where's that from? Did your girl give it to you?” Mel had completely missed the ‘he’ Liryn had used in reference to his senshi. “Athene. Cool name. Sounds familiar. I wonder if I've heard it before. So what brings you out here? Were you chasing a squirrel too? Or a bird? Birds are fun to chase but they don't stick around long like squirrels. If you really need a challenge chase a rat but they get mean when they are cornered. Ravens can be too. Go for pigeons if you do birds.” He had gotten off topic again. That got even worse when he spotted movement along the bare branches.

“Squirrel!” He raced towards the tree and tried to climb it only to have to give up since he still had no decent grip. The squirrel in question chattered down at the guardian before scaling the tree even higher. “Sometimes I wish I could fly. It would make chasing squirrels so much easier.” The large cat sighed sadly as his tail whipped back and forth in irritation.

Quote:
Liryn blinked as the other mauvian sent another barrage of questions in his direction..

Well make that more a torrent of questions, however his purplish eyes looked amused as he said "Well I prefer Ryn over Li, but you can call me either and I’ve always had that name" a brief pause and then he added "And no I wasn’t chasing anything unless you count chasing auras but I was actually on my way to HQ."

He blinked again at the mention of 'girl', the feminine noun confusing him for a moment "Ah no Athene’s a guy not a girl" because whilst the dark-haired eternal did have long hair, Liryn didn’t think that he’d particularly like being thought of as a girl.

It was hard to tell how much of his words was heard by the other mauvian as a flicker of movement from above had the other racing in the direction of the tree before trying to climb it.

Unsuccessfully.

Quote:
“HQ?” Mel looked at the other guardian. He knew what it meant. He watched enough cop shows to know that HQ meant headquarters but what Mel didn't know was what exactly Ryn ment. “There is a HQ in the city? Your HQ or someone else's? What's in it? Where is it? Can I go? Is it secret? How come I didn't know about it? Is it a cat thing or a senshi thing or a knight thing? Did you know that there are knights? I've ment a knight before! I know lots of knights! We went and raided the negaverse.” Mel quickly fell off topic and started to ramble on about anything that sprang to mind. Everything from the negaverse to food.

He only paused to take a breath, but before he jumped to the next topic his train of thought stopped at some sound in the distance. Nothing all that interesting, just the typical sounds of the city, but it was enough to distract the scatterbrained cat. “What were we talking about?”

Quote:
Liryn blinked slowly at the question, because the bigger mauvian was perhaps the most scatterbrained mauvian that he’d ever met.

His cheerful voice was undaunted however as he said "You were asking about HQ and yes to answer your previous question HQ is our HQ” he thought about it "Well at least it’s a cat HQ."

Because whilst knights were allies and senshi were theirs to protect, HQ was a mauvian thing…

Well at least the HQ he was thinking about was.

"And yes I can show it to you if you want" because HQ was a place that Liryn figured that all mauvians should know about…

Well at least all of the non corrupted ones.

"And yes to answer your earlier question I do know a few knights, although I haven’t met that many of them - at least not compared to senshi."

The mention of raiding the Negaverse was an interesting one, Liryn’s purplish eyes curious as he added "And by raiding the Negaverse do you mean the whole thing with Caedus and his portal and having to fight the Negaverse to get out?"

Because he had been involved in that as well.

Quote:
Mel nodded. Thats right, they were talking about HQ…. which HQ again? Thankfully Ryn answered the silent question right away. There HQ! “Cat HQ? Wonder what it's like. Does it have a scratching post? Ooooooooh does it have a fish tank? Or or or a chef. It would be nice if it had its own cook. It's really hard to get a good fish sandwich from my girl’s mom, apparently I’m not alowed to eat ‘human’ food. As if it would make me sick or something. What kind of food do you eat? I like fish, do you like fish? Seared Mahi-mahi, salmon sushi, grilled tuna….. Yum.” He was practically drooling at the idea of a nice dish of fish, “I’m hungry.” And just like that Mel was distracted again. It really wasn’t hard, sigh.

“YAY,” The large cat bounced in excitement at being told that he can be shown the cat HQ. “Lead the way my furry friend!” No time like the present as far as Mel was concerned, mostly because even he knew that as soon as something else catches his eye he won't really remember what was going on. The guardian wasn’t that bright but he wasn’t stupid, just easily distracted. It just took a bit of prodding to get him back on topic.

“Yup, that's the one I was talking about. It’s also where I met these knights. This one guy, he had a cowboy hat at the meeting I saw him in but he didn’t have it at the fight. I guess he lost it. There was a dragon! It was huge! I jumped on a little negaverser and was able to touch the dragon. It was fun. I wish I could do it again.” Mel sighed, remembering the feeling of catching air after using a rather short general as a springboard. “I wonder if the guy would let me do that again. It was fun.” Mel wasn’t even sure if the nega, in his many layers of clothing, had even felt him climb him like a mountaineer only to launch himself off his shoulders at the dragon.

Quote:
"Well it’s got the computers" Liryn said as he resumed walking.. Although his pace resembled more of a half trot than a walk, as the other mauvian had much longer legs. "But I’m not sure about scratching posts."

It wasn’t something that he’d really thought on, because whilst Liryn was pretty diligent at keeping his claws sharp, he had the scratching posts at home and the handy trees outside to help out with that…

When he went to HQ it was mostly for computer stuff, or for a space to work on his little 'projects' - particularly if said project was one that could benefit from hands and not paws.

"You jumped on the dragon?" For a moment Liryn's voice sounded impressed. "You didn’t burn your feet did you?" Because he could distinctly remember the thing being on fire.

Quote:
Mel cheerily followed along with Ryn. “Well thats unfortunate. Sometimes it's nice to just dig one's claws into a good scratching post.” The large cat briefly dug his claws into the ground, feeling the soft dirt shift under his paws. A post really wasn’t necessary, there were tons of other things he could use to keep his claws in tip top shape but there was justs something so satisfying about shredding a rope covered pole or carpet ramp. Cardboard wasn’t quite the same though the mess that made was quite amusing.

“What? No,” With a laugh Mel bounced ahead of the smaller cat, “no, no, I jumped on a General not the dragon. I touched that. Wanna see?” Without waiting for the other guardian to give his accent Mel was off running. He raced up the side of a tree and launched off the bark like he was in some kind of kung fu-Jackie Chan movie. He twisted in midair, as most cats could, and landed back on his paws with a soft thump. “I was able to swipe at the dragon before he went up in a big fireball. Man did he go up. Like Woooosh.” Mel did his impression of the dragon catching fire, doing his best to imitate the sound and practically bouncing all over the place in excitement. “It was a real bonfire…. Think of the number of marshmallows we could have roasted. Man, I really want a s'more. Have you ever had a s'more? They are goooooood.” And just like that the cat was off onto another topic. Sigh

Quote:
Liryn found himself blinking again for a moment, but only because he was pretty sure that the other cat had mentioned jumping on the dragon…

But he could have misheard - and jumping on a general was not quite, but nearly, as good.

Perhaps another mauvian may have been a little disapproving, however Liryn had decided that it was probably a necessary thing - particularly given where they had been at the time..

No make that especially given where they had been…

And it wasn’t whilst he hadn’t leapt on a Nega-agent himself in his time - although in his case it had been a corrupt eternal rather than a general.

So he shook his head as he trotted after the bigger cat as he admitted "No I haven’t had a s’more before - but I would be up for trying one" adding "And we need to turn here."

Because Mel was in danger of going in the wrong direction.

Quote:
“Oh they are sooooo good.” Mel was practically salivating at the idea of the sqooshy chocolate melding with the crispy yet soft marshmallow and the crunchy graham cracker although Mel had a personal fondness of toasted marshmallows dipped in melted chocolate. The cracker was a good addition but there was nothing but nirvana with the chocolate covered mallows. Yuuuummmmmm. “You are missing out Ryn. I’ll have to talk to your senshi about making some grade A s’mores for you. I would say you could do it yourself but fire and fur don't really mix.” Sometimes Mel still thought he smelled his tail singing some randomly. He knew it was all a trick of his imagination but still. Lucky for him it was just a little warm and some hair was crispy for a while but no lasting damage… at least not to himself. Mel wasn’t so sure about the kids who thought playing with fire was a good idea.

“Hun?” He had started to wander off, blindly walking forward lost in his own thoughts. The guardian would have completely lost Ryn if the smaller cat hadn’t gotten his attention. “Oh. Ok cool. Lead the way.” He happily bounced after the smaller cat rambling on about food and shows and just about anything that came too his mind. The other guardian might wish that he had never met the scatterbrained cat but Mel had no such feelings. It was always fun meeting new people.

Quote:
Judging by the other mauvian's reaction, these s'mores really did sound like something that he should try. Perhaps he could ask Athene to make him some he decided...

Or Ida.

"Sure" he agreed cheerfully as the other mauvian bounced after him. "And maybe on the way over you can tell me what goes in these s’mores."

Yes he would ask either Athene or Ida to make him some s’mores Liryn decided.

Although that was probably a thing for later - much much later.

Quote:
“Oh there are dozens of ways to make a s’more.” Mel practically danced around the smaller guardian as he started to list the variations one could do while making s’mores. “You can use Nilla wafers instead of graham crackers, or chocolate chip cookies, or those fudge striped ones. You could use that Nutella spread, or chocolate with caramel in it, or with mint in it… ooo raspberry. Yeah chocolate with raspberry jam in it. You could add peanut butter, cookie dough, nuts, fruit…” His list of items you could add or switch out faded as the two continued their trip through the city streets. By the time they reach the guardian’s headquarters Liryn might have wished he had never met the larger guardian. He would at least know about s’mores.
