~The Legend~

It is said that House Chhatrapati is the first house to have formed in the darkest days. Before dragons came out from their caves and the Phoenix Tribes where stabbing each other in the back House Chhatrapati claims to have formed a clan deep within Ethe and began their fight for dominance in the far south of Ethe, at the peninsula deep in the south, far away from all the volcanos, next to the mountains. Here they grew strong and when it was time they opened their wings and flew into the heart of Ethe to begin their fight for power. It would be here that their strength would grow noticeable by many other Phoenix families, the Eta Mara'e and the Manasa to name the more prominent ones. It was when the dragons came forth that the Chhatrapati found their true calling, when peace talks went sour and Bellris became dark Chhatrapati sided with the Eta Mara'e a house they deemed virtuous, talented, and strong and so the Chhatrapati would pledge their allegiance to the Eta Mara'e, swearing by the sun that so long as their was darkness they would be the light that came to fight it back, to protect the land of Ethe from all whom would do it harm, and so when the Manasa family turned their swords upon their own kind it was the Chhatrapati whom took up arms first and put them to the death for threatening the peace that the Eta Mara'e family stood for, and in the process House Chhatrapati put every Manasa to the sword, every man woman and child of that house was slaughtered. It was the last living member, a mother who watched the Chhatrapati kill her son and daughters and love of her life that would curse them, that so long as the Chhatrapati remained loveless they would die young, that their own grief and their own blood would turn against them, and with her final words the Chhatrapati cut of the head of the snake that cursed them, only for it to be to late. Despite the curse the Chhatrapati continued to give their lives for Ethe, for Queen and King and for the right of the Kingdom.

~Truth~
The Chhatrapati clan comes from the far south, at the very end of the mountain chain in the dense humid forests that line the edge of the world. At first they were savage and no better then the Tribes of the Badlands in Phobos. They would kill any and all that would come to their land weather seeking war or sanctuary the Chhatrapati and no mercy for those not of their blood. This would change when the Dragons would appear, Many would come from the caves in the mountains but the Chhatrapati where no match for them, in fairness the Chhatrapati chose to pick the fight first- their no visitors no survivors policy had them in a battle they could not win. They had to leave their home behind as more and more dragons came from underground. The Chhatrapati where on the decline, the only survivors where a few families, one of which was found by Geralt Eta Mara'e and his young daughter Alexis. The father and daughter would nurse the family they found back to health and when the man that they saved was once again walking on his own two feet he pledged his life to Geralt and Alexis and all the Eta Mara'e family to come.

The man that Geralt and Alexis saved would come to be known as the founder of the Chhatrapati House, his name was Vidyasagara Chhatrapati. He would rally the rest of the scattered clan to Geralt and Alexis' side and the two would help the Chhatrapati's reunite, and the Chhatrapati clan vowed to fight with and for the Eta Mara'e for as long as they wanted their loyalty.

When the Dragon VS Phoenix wars where nearing to a close it was found out that the Manasa house had struck a deal with Ivirth I, that if they took control of the armies and killed Alexis and Geralt, that Ivirth would name the Manasa house Kings of the Ethen Territory. The Manasa had been close friends with the Chhatrapati and Vidyasagara Chhatrapati knew very well how loyal the Manasa where to the Ethe people. Vidyasagara Chhatrapati could see why the Manasa House wanted to side with the Dragon Emperor in order to save the people of Ethe, but Vidyasagara and the rest of the Chhatrapati Clan still held rage and an anger verging on perverse against all Dragons, the Chhatrapati did not want to see Ethe under the rule of the thing that had destroyed their home, their people, ripped apart their clan and dozens of Chhatrapati clan families. So Vidyasagara Chhatrapati gave the order and turned upon the Manasa family, slaughtering all of them and attempting to justify it not as vengeance but as loyalty to the Eta Mara'e, when the Chhatrapati Clan was finished with their slaughter not even the children of the Manasa survived... or so they thought. A single survivor did escape Vidyasagara's slaughter order and this woman, Hannah Manasa blamed the Eta Mara'e family for the Manasa's demise.

Vidyasagara Chhatrapati found out about the woman just in time to save King Geralt and his line. Vidyasagara admitted to Geralt what he had done and that in doing so he had put Geralt and his daughter in danger, but that he would do anything to right his wrong, and that he had a plan. Taking the place of the King, Vidyasagara allowed Hannah Manasa into the Keep and allow the vengeful woman to lay her hands upon him and her curse was given "Twenty five and twenty five again, Your clan will suffer without end. Without love the men will fall like flies, and twenty five years later your women will die. For every time the sun is in the night sky, your lives will be shorter until you are born only to die."

Vidyasagara would not understand the curse, nor the implication behind it- as his Clan had never heard of curses, it was not a concept they had come across before, but he would let Hannah Manasa finish before he would grab his sword and run it though her heart, ending the last of the Manasa clan.

With the death of the last Manasa, and the war seeming to never be at and end. The King Geralt Eta Mara'e was growing old and the King of Lionis was still in his youth, wisdom did not seem to be winning out against youth this time, and when the King of Lionis' eldest son Syros I came into Ethe, the King of Ethe, Geralt and his daughter Alexis where forced to bow to Prince Syros I and vow loyalty to Lionis in order to keep the people of Ethe alive. The Chhatrapati family refused to bow to the Empire until Geralt and Alexis ordered it and the Chhatrapati clan bowed, however it was obvious that they bowed only to Ethe, for it was when they ordered their submission did they obey.

When the Eta Mara'e family was kept in charge of Ethe as what the Chhatrapati considered to be 'Honorary Royalty' aka figure heads, the Eta Mara'e rewarded the Chhatrapati for their loyalty. Geralt would bestow upon the Chhatrapati family the land on the shared boarder of Ethe/Phobos/Lionis, Using the Chhatrapati's still simmering hate for the Dragons in order to maintain their boarder, Vidyasagara and all those whom came after him would be entitled the Dukes of Solidon. Vidyasagara would settle his clan in these lands, and it would be twenty five years later that his first son would fall asleep without warning on his 25th birthday, showing the Chhatrapati family what Hannah Manasa's curse was. Ever since then the Chhatrapati family's women have died by the age of 50 by seemingly 'natural' causes and all the men in the family have fallen asleep at the age of 25, eventually dieing in some other way as it is essentially a coma, if they are not watched and taken care of all the time they will die. Vidyasagara is the only one that was not effected by the curse as he managed to live to the ripe old age of 92, however in the process he watched as four daughters and nine sons fell asleep or died, and when he passed on and his journals where found, it was found that he did not feel guilty for putting the entirety of the Manasa family to the sword but that his only regret was not killing Hannah Manasa sooner as he knows that he has condemned the rest of his line to the pain of knowing when they where to die.

Ever since then the Chhatrapati family has shown unwavering loyalty to the Eta Mara'e royal family, holding the boarder against Phobos, as well as keeping the dignity of the royal family, even going so far as to restore the monarchy when it collapsed at Adara and William Eta Mara'e death. They are forever faithful, loyal, and without waiver, as it has shown that it is in their nature not just to be the fangs that poison the enemy, but to be the coils that break the bones of those weather phoenix or dragon, that would dare to threaten the people of Ethe.
