Darwin sniffed at one of the small daffodils gingerly. By now, he knew where all the little tea houses were and where not to step. Surely if a new addition was added Txiki would have told him. But he had not seen her yet today, so he doubted it. The daffodils smelled extra sweet this day. The sun even seemed to make them seem more sunny and vibrant. Or maybe it was just the thought of seeing the little flutter mare after a hard days work that made things so bright.
Either way, he did not want to rush the feeling and took another deep breath of the daffodil before continuing down the garden path.

Txiki smiled triumphantly. Her tea pot house was now clean of all the dust that had settled in that morning. After all her chores had been done in the Inn she had noticed a fine layer of dust had developed on the floor. The price you pay for living in a tea pot in a garden, but its all she had ever known. It made her happy though, living in the peace and quite and calmness the garden provided.
Her ears perked backwards as she heard her name echo through the porcelain of the tea pot. She knew that voice, and it brought a smile to her face. She set the brush made of dried leaves she had been using to the side and walked out the hole in the side of the pot.
"Hello Darwin." The smile on her face beaming steadily as she greeted him. "Are you done already? I thought the Inn Keeper had said she had a special task for you?"

Darwin's breath caught in his throat as he saw the way her smile shined. It seemed to out shine even the sun on that cloudless day. He had to blink a few times to clear his mind, not wanting to give himself away with even the shake of a head. "Oh, yes. Well, not finished really." He looked past the house to the path in the woods where his project was. "Mrs. put me to helping build a small shed with her. Extra storage and such." He paused, wondering if Txiki would chastise him with his next statement.
"it was hard work, strapping the wood to my sides so I could hold it for her. ...She said she wanted to give me a brushing before I went anywhere..." He paused to glance to the side, knowing Txiki would not be pleased with him disobeying the owner. "But I wanted to come to the garden and see yo---everyone."

Txiki listened to him with interest. When he got to the last of his tale, her look turned to displeasure. "You shouldn't do that, Darwin." She shook her head and tsked her tongue. "She only has our best interests in mind." Txiki looked closer at his sides and her brows stitched together with worry. It was clear now he had been working hard, his sides laced with sweat and dust. "What would you do if you caught a cold and made her worry?" Txiki shook her head again, her little curls swaying with the movement of her head and a slight breeze. "Even on a sunny day like today, one can never be too careful. Come on, we'll go together and sort this out."
Txiki closed the little flap that covered the hole in her tea pot home while she was away and fluttered her wings to be eye level to him. Giving him a look that told him he really didn't have a choice in the matter, but giving him the option to go first and at least have some semblance of dignity without following the mare with his head down.
