No family. No friends. No purpose.

'Everyone has a purpose in life!' one of his teachers had claimed. Janani had a particularly difficult time believing them, though. He wasn't particularly intelligent. He got mediocre grades in his classes. He hadn't made any huge impact on someone's life... so what was his purpose?

Perhaps these were thoughts better suited to someone much older, but that didn't stop Janani's mind from thinking them. Again and again the young Hallowed found himself staring off at nothing, his large, fluffy tail coiled around his otherwise small form, giving him some form of comfort that otherwise he would not have.

Perhaps it wasn't so much a lack of purpose that he felt, but more simply... a feeling of loneliness. As the other Freshlings talked about their families, Janani found himself unable to relate, barely knowing the meaning of the word 'family'. Occasionally he would daydream about what it meant to have a 'family'. On one particular occasion he found himself sitting on a swing outside of the dorms, watching at some of the passer-bys. There was one particular small group--a fellow imp hybrid by the looks of things, with long curved horns and markings not unsimilar to his own, and another imp hybrid, with a cute dress and boots that Janani adored the look of, as well as a few winged demons seemingly pestering the other two. They seemed almost like a family, albeit a somewhat strange one. Still, in that moment, Janani wondered what it would be like to be familiar with the group. To be able to call them family.

Maybe someday he would know. Perhaps a day would come where he would meet some people that would become 'family' to him. He could only hope and dream. Until then though, he was somewhat content in his loneliness.
