It was a glorious day. Kaimana hummed under his breath as he walked along the shores of Matori. The sun was shining, the breeze was ever so salty, and the sands were warm beneath his feet. A little too warm at times, but walking in the rolling waters had helped a bit with that. What he truly wanted to do on a day like this was to find some prize - something spectacular that he could give to his sister. In a way finding these things were his own attempts at enticing her to love the water a little bit more and more. It was a long shot since he knew she was terrified of it, but the boy was determined. One day he would light up her spirit and she would come swimming with him!

Behind the thought came the memory of that day in the dark tunnels, but he quickly shoved it aside - he never dwelt in the past after all.

A'ight I got this. Cracking his knuckles the lean Matori hovered over the ocean waves. With one good yell the boy ran towards the larger rocks and took a great leap into the air. Soon enough he was hitting the waters with a loud splash. Diving as he had for many years the boy disappeared from sight for a good many breaths before finally coming back up. A bit of kelp clung to his hair and he was completely wet, but in his hands was a glimmering shell, pure and unharmed. Shaking his crazy mess of damp curls, Kaimana opened his fingers slowly and smiled at the delicate thing in his palm. Maybe Devika would like this? Only one way to find out though! Placing it carefully in a small bag hanging from his waist the boy turned and began walking back towards the small fishing village that he knew as home.

Devika took some pleasure in sleeping in that morming. With a yawn and a few rubs of her eyes she pulled herself from her bed to see that Kai was already out of the house this morning. Which wasn't much of a surprise since she knee her brother tended to go to the water in the morning. True to their heritage he was, which sometimes made her feel horrible that she was such the opposite. And then she would get a cold chill down her spine and her heart would race and she would forget about it.

She pulled her hair back out of her face and started picking up around their small house. Judging by the position of the sun, Kaimana would likely be home soon so she would make him a little breakfast. She chose some ripe fruits from a bowl on the table and cut them up, popping a few pieces in her mouth as she did so. They'd probably have to go buy some more food things for the house before too long but for now they had fresh fruit, which was just fine with Devi!

After that was done, she danced slightly around the house as she tidied up various things as she waited for her brother to return.

When Kaimana returned it was as usual - loud and messily. The boy only had shaken off some of the water and was sporting several pieces of kelp in his hair and other various pieces of sea life that enjoyed clinging to his clothing. His feet were covered in wet sand as well and he only briefly wiped them on the woven mat outside of their small home, "Devi?!" He called out, a familiar nickname since he was so prone to making them up for others, "Are you up yet?"

Far too excited to worry about the mess he made Kaimana swept into the room, "You are!" He teased with a light wink before noticing the fruits on the table. As always she was ever so thoughtful. Smiling the man perched his arms on the wooden top and plopped a piece of fruit into his mouth, "Mmm- so good. So anything exciting happen this morning while I was gone?" He studied his sister ever so innocently, almost akin to a pet or something. That was after all how Kaimana acted. Energetic and eager to help - even if sometimes he made more of a mess and got far more distracted than most.

All she could do was roll her eyes at her brother. She should have known to wait until AFTER he came home to do cleaning as he would be his usual tornado self and mess it up anyway. Oh well, that just meant she had something to do later!

"It's a good thing I am, Kai, or you would have been in trouble!" Devika teased back. There was no point in cleaning anymore so she plopped down in a chair beside her brother. "Well, I slept in some since I didn't have a noisy brother around." She said with a smirk.

Noticing all the water on the floor and still dripping off his hair which was adorned with several pieces of kelp she laughed as she shook her head. "Did you have a fight with a kelp-monster? Because it would appear that you lost. And no I'm not using it for dinner!" Her brother was normally full of jokes so she wasn't going to let him get away with that one! She pulled a piece or two out of his hair and laid it on the table to be taken care of later.

Kaimana pursed his lips into a pout, "Me in trouble? Never." The man winked at her before popping another piece of fruit in his mouth. At her teasing he made a muffled sound that somewhat could be heard as, "Mmm noh tha bahdmph." I'm not that bad? Swallowing his food the boy shook his head playfully, "I suppose then I should hold onto what I found then since obviously you wouldn't want something from such an awful brother." Still he placed the satchel on the table and moved it around in a circle with his hand.

"You spoiled my fun." He replied with a small laugh, "But no kelp monsters today, just thought it was a nice new hairdo. What, you don't like my style?" Even when she tried to cut him off the boy still found a way to be a dork. He did have to laugh though again, "At least it's not an octopus this time. I remember how fun it was when it stuck its tentacles out at everyone when I walked through town."

Devika rolled her eyes at him. Kai was always true to his goofball self and that was what she loved about him. She picked at the bowl of fruit as well before he ate it all, not that she couldn't get more just that he would have to share.

She eyed the bag that he placed and played with on the table. Her eyes shifted from her brother to the bag and back again. Should she try to snatch it from him? She wasn't so sure if she would be successful in that but it might just be worth a try...

The sister would wait though, until the opportune moment. A laugh irrupted from her and interrupted her thoughts as he reminded her about the octopus incident. "Oh gosh. I do remember that. You also had little circles all over your arm and shoulders for like a week after we finally got the octopus to go home. I think everyone in town was happy to see it go too. But at least it gave you nice roomy paths to walk since everyone avoided you!" Devika laughed a little more. Oh the shenanigans her brother got into, there would definitely be plenty of stories to embarrass him with when he brought a girl home or had kids! And Devika would be right there next to Kai telling them about all the silly things he got into.

Kaimana grinned towards his sibling, "Ah, yes. I told you I wish Grandma had let me get those tattooed permanently on my arm. It was pretty kickass lookin'." The Matori leaned back in his chair as he left the pouch on the table tauntingly, "I'm just glad I got the little guy back into the ocean before he became our stew." As much as he loved the taste of fish there was something wrong about eating a creature who had been his companion for a couple of days.Admittedly he had been on herb duty for a full week after, but still it had been worth it!

"Honestly if I could I would totally convince others that they could make great pets. I could become a breeder of them or something. Exotic pets to a good home~" The boy chuckled before shaking his head, "So any plans for today, Devi?"

"I suppose if you wanted to look like a pin cushion, or maybe target practice." Devika laughed at her brother. He was such a dork sometimes. A lovable one though for sure. "I agree, that little thing definitely seemed happy to go home to the ocean even if it also seemed to have a fun time with you. But lets face it, it's kind of hard to not have a fun time with you big brother." She reached up and messed up his hair a little bit with affection.

"Don't be getting those kinds of ideas oh dear brother of mine. I don't want all kinds of exotic pets in my home!" She cracked a smile though and stuck her tongue out at him.

"HMMMM. I haven't really thought of anything in particular to do for today. Except..." Her hand struck out at the bag he still had on the table. "Seeing what's in here!" She dangled it in front of him for a minute before taking her time in undoing the latch that held it shut.

"Well I thought it would be cool." He flexed his arm, "Just thinkin' about how all the fishermen in the area look so cool with their markings makes me want one." His gaze glimmered, "Maybe some sea dragon or something..." Though honestly he didn't even know what he would do with one. Still, it didn't stop him from teasing his sister about it! "D'aaaaw. Thanks, Devi." Kaimana beamed at her, "Glad to know that I can still be amusing."

Kai pouted at his sibling, "Buuuuut....they would be so cute! I mean uh, cool and masculine. We could definitely do something with it. The Matori Twin's Exotic Pets~" He shook his head after a moment with a laugh, "Okay, so maybe it wouldn't be the best idea. Though honestly I'm not really knowing what to do myself either. Should we just become herbalists like gran or do some fishin' for the next ten years of our lives?"

Laughing, the boy watched as his sibling stole the bag. "Of course!" He watched as the shell came out of the bag and into Devika's hands, "Pretty, right?" He glanced at the shimmering colors, " But the best part is what came out of this little guy next to it." Here he untied another pouch hanging from his sash and pulled out a dull muddy colored shell. Popping it open carefully Kaimana pushed the thing closer to his sibling, "I'm getting better at diving longer so I found this for you too." A pearl, a small but shimmering pearl that he had wrestled with the ocean floor for. Grinning, Kai leaned forward. "What do you think? Maybe I can find more of these instead of just fishing for our future?"

Devika smiled lovingly at him. "You know you can be anything you want. But Gramma was definitely wise to keep you from getting those tattoos. How would you ever find a girlfriend with funnier looking spots all over you." She said as she poked a few of his markings.

Upon opening the bag and looking at the shell it was definitely pretty. The luminescence of it was very intriguing as she studied it for a few moments before even paying attention to what her brother laid on the table next. Setting down the first shell her eyes widened as she saw the small round shiney object her brother had found. "Wow Kai. That is really pretty." She picked it up gingerly and inspected it. So perfect and beautiful. "I don't know what we'll do for the rest of our lives but this would likely catch a pretty good sum. Though I'm sure you had to go pretty far out and deep for this didn't you?" She raised an eyebrow at him.

Devi knew what he always tried to do, bring her pretty ocean things to try and get her out there. She wished she could, kinda. She wanted to share his love of it but her body would just freeze with fear any time she even got close. "You know it worries me when you go too far out there." Setting the pearl down gently, she looked up at him, a concerned look on her face.

Kaimana huffed, "Well I guess then it would definitely mean I'm finding the right girl for me. If someone can't appreciate my taste in design then they aren't for me." He teased lightly, "Plus at this rate I think I might just marry a snaptrotter - they're far more interesting then the girls around this place. Minus you of course - but you're family so that doesn't count."

"Hey don't sell that one. It's my first ever catch - I thought maybe you might want to make it into something. I see all the girls with their hair pieces and jewelry so why not let you have something as well?" He leaned forward with a grin, "You can use the shell to hold onto jewelry or something and keep the pearl in it too."

His gaze did flicker guiltily towards the floor, "Well yeah. I mean - it wasn't too far out." He glanced back up towards his sister with a gentle gaze, "I promise I'm careful, Devika. I waited for the tides and everything as promised." He reached over and patted her hand, "Trust me, okay?"

Then in a second he was looking around, "And worst case scenario you won't have to worry about me making a mess anymore if something did happen! Plus plenty more room without another person..." He trailed off, "Okay so that was in bad taste, I'm sorry." He smiled sheepishly, "But really do you think the ocean gods would want me? I'd probably talk their ears off and drive them bonkers. Then bam! I get spit back up onto the shore since they can't take me anymore. So then you're stuck with me."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 21, 2017 10:16 am

"Sadly I'm sure there are plenty of girls that would still like you even with your 'taste' in design." She teased him right back. "Though a snaptrotter might just be the thing for you, it might put up with you longer than a girl would." She stuck her tongue out at him.

Devika inspected the pearl once more. It could make some interesting jewelry, though to do it herself would be a little nerve-wracking. Never had she worked with something so precious before. What if she damaged the precious thing, who knew when Kai would find another one. "It would look pretty as jewelry." She agreed. She wasn't one for too much ornamentation but it was a very special gift from her brother so she'd make an exception.

"Oh man what would I even do without all that mess to clean up. Surely I'd waste away in boredom." The back of her hand found her forehead as she leaned her head back dramatically. "I suppose you're right. The god's would likely rather you talk my ear off and drive me bonkers. Which I'm okay with. I'll keep you stuck with me."

Kaimana wiggled his eyebrows, "Cause they know what's good around here." He teased lightly, "But you are right - If I want something for life then a snapper it is. I saw a nice green one the other day with some blue and gold flecks in its scales. Talk about something gorgeous to tame." It would be interesting wouldn't it? To have something that could swim as good as - if not far better - than him. That would definitely help ease Devika's mind about him going out alone, right?

"Mmhmm." The boy shrugged, "But do as you wish - I just figured i would give you something to do if you wanted. If not the merchants around here know some good artisans." Kaimana grinned, "I'll need to get to know them anyways if I do more diving." More diving meant more finds and more finds meant more sales to be had.

"Oh yes, yes. I'll remember that when I come in next." Quipped Kaimana back though he was laughing, "I promise I'll try to clean as I leave next time." He glanced around with a slight flush. It was only some sand and water and a few pieces of kelp...okay he had made a good mess this time. Like usual.

The Matori grinned, "No worries, sis! Even if you do go bonkers I'll be here to keep chatting away with you!" He stood and stretched out his legs, "So how about a nice walk after we finish eating a bit? I've already brought the beach in with me so we might as well go out and enjoy the rest of it."
PostPosted: Sun Apr 23, 2017 1:19 pm

"Anything with blue and gold in it is going to be beautiful! Too bad you don't have quite the needed skills yet. I'm sure it was breathtaking!" Devika took the precious pearl and went and hid it by her bed so that any passers-by wouldn't just automatically see it and want it. She would think on what she wanted to do with it but by her brother's wishes she wouldn't sell it.

"I'd expect no less from you! You'd know I'd be here for you no matter what, bonkers and all." She wrapped her arm around his waist. "The day is still early I don't see what a walk could hurt. It's not like we have anything more pressing to do. We could always venture towards one of the bigger towns, see if there's anything else we could take to grandma on our next trip." She leaned against him, Devi would be up for anything, as long as it didn't involve water!

Kaimana pursed his lips in protest, "Who says, hmm?" The matori crossed his arms proudly, "I'll see about getting this snapper to follow me home even without having to battle it. Just gotta woo her with my charm and good looks." He winked teasingly. Not that he would tell his sister that he was already fighting and had taken a few more scrapes that he had shown her before. She already worried enough about him being in the water!

The boy chuckled, "As I would be for you." He leaned back against his sister as she wrapped an arm around his waist, "So a town trip then? I 'spose that wouldn't hurt. We could always bring gran something - maybe then she won't whack me for being so late on the last delivery." Taking a moment to think it over the boy popped in one last piece of fruit before slowly getting up from his seat.

"Then let's get going. Else we'll arrive in the night and the market will already be over." He teased lightly as he nudged his sister with his hip before going to pick up his usual satchel, "Should I prepare to carry a lot? I can grab another bag if you want."
