User Image Her every last nerve was standing on the precipice and about to jump off - or get pushed off. Beyla truly felt as though she was at her wits' end with these two. Her fiery orange eyes stole a glance at the inky black sisters who were skulking in step with one another just a few paces away. They were out on a viking. Their first for all three of the females, but they were in the good company of a couple of more experienced reavers as well as a captain who was an old pro.

But these two... They were not making it easy on Beyla... She suspected that she had been made to be more of the designated adult supervision for the two adolescent girls because she was the newest adult along the viking. But it still did not make any ounce of sense to her at all. She was constantly chasing after them while they went after crocodiles one-on-one while the other goaded them on, or then the other would try to sneak into the den of sleeping venomous snakes to see how many of their heads she could touch before getting bitten. What was wrong with these girls?

Thank the gods they weren't identical - Beyla knew the orange-red one, Deimos, even had an identical twin. Deimos was always scaring her halfway to death, popping out from nowhere or making unearthly shrieks. Phobos, the purple-hued one, was more of an expert at lurking around and being eerie and creepy. Beyla could be traipsing along behind the other reavers and throw a glance over her shoulder only to find her face inches away from Phobos'.

...Hopefully they would grow out of it.

She glanced over at them again only to find - oh, what a surprise- that they had peeled off in an attempt to give her the slip. Nice try, but they weren't gonna keep getting away with it. Keeping these two in check had become her new standard by which to measure the success of her first viking. But she tried not to think about it or else it would make her kind of sad.

The twins-of-triplets were, in fact, trying to give Beyla the slip. They kept sneaking furtive glances back at their white-and-black-self-appointed babysitter and whispering between themselves. Should they try to circle back on her once they were out of sight and spring some trap upon her? Before leaving for their first viking, the captain leading the expedition had mentioned something about the lioness having god-blood. Did that also mean that the lioness was a Seer? They could not remember between the two of them, but from what Deimos and Phobos had hypothesized and tested with a number of variables, if she was a Seer (she was not), then Beyla did not get very many visions, or at least not any brought on by the girls' pranks. They preferred it that way, too, or else they would have been unable to startle their older companion.

In the back of their minds they knew that their mother, Brynhildr, or maybe their father, Këkale, would be hearing about all of their nonsense and mischief from the captain or another reaver, but they were having too grand of a time to be deterred by whatever punishments their parents may contrive for them. Ideally, Bryn and Këkale would be too busy with reavings of their own to find the time to punish their daughters.

Beyla was gaining on the pair and they exchanged a look with a nod, and thanks to the unspoken link that came from being two of triplets, they moved into action. Deimos went left and Phobos went right, and they began to sprint.

Beyla skidded to a stop. What was she supposed to do? Should she just try to hunt down one of them? Would the other fall into line if their partner in crime was subdued? Her ears flicked back against her head and she chewed her lip nervously while taking small shuffling steps in the direction that they had disappeared into.

But she couldn't fail now! They were almost back to the pride. The viking had overall been a success, some meat, some goods, the usual. Unfortunately no scars, one of the other reavers complained. For a split second she thought, well, they could do whatever shenanigans, maybe die and ... ? But what would be the consequences for her, personally? Would she not be made a reaver? Would she be punished further? Or maybe would Brynhildr and Këkale accept that it probably was going to happen anyway with some shock that the two had even made it to adulthood. Maybe they would thank her! (Beyla was really not very fond of them at this point)

However, the lioness considered it more to be a matter of her own personal standards and success that she needed to bring them back alive. And thanks to her large size, she could force them (unfortunately, though, they had two gods in their ancestry to her one, but the one for Beyla was a little closer so she still outweighed them individually).

Deimos thought that they were free and clear, and as the sun was beginning to set, the twins' coats were beginning to blend in better to the land on the edges of the Stormborn. In the distance, Phobos' eyes glinted mischievously and so did one of her fangs as she smirked at her sister. They turned to look at their pursuer one last time, but she had already vanished from the horizon, even with her mostly-white coat.

Hmm...

They had planned on sneaking up on her, but she was nowhere to be seen... Well, it didn't matter too much, right? They were free of her tyranny responsibility. They began to reconvene as a plan B.

But from out of nowhere, Beyla leapt from the shadows and bowled Deimos over, hardly taking an instant to move from her to body slamming the other one. They were so bewildered and caught off guard, silver eyes looking at one another in confusion, that Beyla was able to tower over the adolescents and preempt their every move for escape.

Defeated (finally), they hung their heads low and turned towards the Stormborn. Maybe Beyla had bested them this time, but it wouldn't happen again. They locked eyes and swore to it. Beyla, meanwhile, made a promise to herself that she would never go on another reaving with either of these two- or their other triplet for good measure.
