 He was still being followed...
At first he had chosen to ignore him, and yet as he moved ever onwards he was still aware of the observer behind him. It seemed that the flowers that had initially been a source of interest to the stranger had been dismissed for the time being. Instead, this particular white lion had chosen to pursue him instead, and his reasons for doing so remained unclear. What was strange however, was that this one seemed to have no ill intentions - curious as the creature might have been, his visions didn't come to him.
If anything, there was something familiar about him.
It was a strange sensation to be sure, as neither of them had met before... And yet there was something so; well, the lion simply couldn't place a paw on it as he slowly came to a halt and turned round to face Tethys. As he lifted his gaze and settled it upon the lion's behind him, he was greeted with a brief shock - it was enough to take his breath away as he stared at a lion he should have known... And yet in an instant that lion was gone and replaced by the one that stood before him now.
What...?
"Turn back," he growled in a broken, glutteral tone; it was a voice that was rarely used. A lion who wasn't inclined towards basic etiquette had no reason to speak, particularly when the most intelligent among the living chose to avoid him. Yet here he was, attempting to warn off the otherwise strange lion, and the visions he had brought with him.
...Visions that he had never had before.Words: 279

 Finally, some acknowledgement.
Tethys wasn't really one to chase or pursue those who wished to be left alone; at least not for very good reason. Yet as the Captain had followed after the ghost, he had come to realise that it wasn't just the flowers that made the fireflies stir. In fact, there was something so undeniably unusual about this lion that he couldn't quite shake it. It was that feeling that the Collective had drilled into him - something was amiss, and he would be foolish not to try and identify why that was.
The world had a strange way of working when it came to the Captain and his luck; he didn't just run in to individuals as a fluke. Once upon a time he might have assumed it was a fluke, yet as the months had drawn on and more and more individuals had entered his life, each with a very specific purpose, he had come to realise that they were all a part of a very large puzzle he had yet to piece together.
Just like those he had met within the Collective, and the various prides throughout the land, everything had happened to him for a reason and he was beginning to think that this 'ghost' was of no exception. There was no way that he was a simple fluke, when once again, Tethys had been provided with inspiration for a solution to a problem in which he had been trying to address since the very beginning.
Gideon had taught him to open his eyes. Adar'malik had taught him to fight blind. Suu'marle had graced him with the knowledge of the weapons at his disposal.
They had all taught him to get back up when he fell - where there was a problem, they had led him towards a solution. All along his father had ensured his son had the knowledge to succeed, and that in turn ensured that those he cared about didn't fall through his carelessness.
There was no way this was a coincidence...
"From what?" he asked softly and raised a brow. "There is no one here but you and I," he pointed out.Words: 362

Always the same assumptions, and though not inaccurate, they would be eventually. Spectre continued to gaze at the Captain warily, even as he spoke in soothing tones that were familiar to him again. It was a sensation that was proving to be incredibly disconcerting to the lion who had, for so long, wandered without a familiar face. Truth be told all those who were familiar had died long ago, slaughtered at the paws of the scourge, there was no way in which this could possibly happen... and yet it was.
It made little sense to the lion who was so incredibly far from home...
"There will be," he replied slowly, choosing not to go down a rabbit trail that would cause him to lose time. If he was distracted for too long, if he was still for too long, then they would most certainly find him and it would be his undoing. However, that which was familiar to him at least deserved to be reminded of what it was they would do well to avoid... Both of them. While not completely pure in pelt there was enough purity within this one's blood to seal his fate.
He was a 'new blood', he had only been reborn once or twice, or that would be the scourge's view.
They would help him along...
"If you wait too long, they will find you," he murmured vaguely and shook his head. "You have what they seek," he continued and closed his eyes briefly. "You would do well to watch the shadows, look for their eyes," he warned and took a breath. "And keep your back -"Words: 272 Total Words (Spectre): 551

"To the light," Tethys interrupted, a frown slipping on to his features as he continued to regard the lion.
While his rambles might have originally seemed incoherent, Tethys was no fool and recognised the descriptions. Whoever this lion was, he seemed to know who the phantoms were, worse still... He had faced them. It was a sobering thought to realise that a lion so alone and so pure in colour had managed to allude them for so long. Yet here he was, fleeing from a beast that didn't ever seem to rest... or that was what Tethys had assumed until he came to realise that there hadn't been a sliver of phantom activity in this area.
In a roundabout way, this lion had found sanctuary, a place untouched by the scourge. The Captain wasn't sure how this had been achieved, or rather he hadn't been until the answer took a seat on his nose. In a world filled with such light, the phantoms had absolutely nowhere to hide. That which this lion feared so much couldn't pursue him here, where they could be seen no matter which way they moved. Unless they were to attack en mass, their traditional strategies would fail.
"You know of the phantoms," Tethys murmured. "Who are you?"
It was an answer he wasn't to receive as the lion abruptly shook his head once more, and in a flourish of fireflies, he simply seemed to vanish. Tethys had promptly plunged forward to attempt to discern which direction he had gone, and yet in the midst of the glimmering light, it was as if he truly had left this world.
"What...are you," he amended softly and glanced around him at the fireflies again.
It couldn't possibly have been a ghost, and yet it seemed he had encountered yet another lion who possessed the ability to somehow hide in plain sight... It was a trick he would one day have to learn for himself.
It was as he walked back to inspect the flowers, and chose to look over his shoulder into the distance, that he saw that the strange lion had managed to place distance between them. Enough for him to be able to outrun the Captain if he chose to follow, but proof that perhaps he was mortal after all.
'He has a way of knowing when they are coming...' His half brother's voice flickered into his mind and he swung back round to watch as the strange lion disappeared from view. "He is both dead and alive, until he is found, one way or the other..."
"It's you." He breathed...Words: 439 Total Words (Tet): 801
