’What do you want to be when you grow up?’

The question had been the topic of discussion over the last month. Oberon didn’t really have an answer for it, still. He knew it was important to pick something to do, but… adulthood seemed so far away, and the world had so many options in it. Could he really narrow it down to one thing? It seemed like most adults he’d spoken to had one thing they did, and they usually seemed happy about it… but there were a few here and there that seemed like they weren’t pleased being locked into the One Thing they’d wound up in. So many of them made it sounds like they’d been trying to do something else, but wound up where they were.

Oberon wasn’t sure if it was really worth picking something if he’d just end up somewhere else in the end. Why couldn’t things be like his storybooks? People did all sorts of things in them- and not all of them just one thing. A person could do a lot of things, and just move between them whenever they wanted. He’d like to do that… He’d honestly like to spend most of his time reading if possible. But people didn’t get paid to read, did they? He knew he’d have to make money eventually.

Well. He supposed the answer to the question of the month was going to have to be "I don’t know." Hopefully his teachers would take that for an answer, he knew he wasn’t the only kid in his age group that didn’t know what to do.
