The stage was set, a massive banner spelling out "Grand Opening" in glittering letters was spread out above, floral arrangements of pale pink and blue curled around the pillars below. It had been constructed the night before, Nacre overseeing the process and forcing the poor ponies to work until every little bit was symmetrical. Already a crowd was starting to gather, curious ponies wanting to know about the studio space that had been setting up for months now. Blacked out curtains had kept anyone from speculating the purpose, and the lettering over the big glass windows had only appeared the night before.

'Mother of Pearl Sword Fighting Academy' was emblazoned in elegant lettering across the front. Beyond it dummies and sword racks spotted the studio space. All of it hers.

And what better way to garner new customers than with a very public demonstration. Following through the motions was almost like a dance, learning the steps and counters, the flicks of the sword just as elegant as her graceful hoofwork. The onlookers left a swell of pride in her belly, but if she had wanted an audience she would have become a performer.

"Now who is willing to give it a try?" The children crowded by the foot of the stage just seemed to light up at the chance of cavorting with swords. So many young faces so eager to learn, she wanted to fill them with knowledge. "One at a time please. If you manage to land a blow on me before your time is up, then I'll give you a whole year of lessons free." It would take some time, shepherding the foals into a reasonable line but all of them were eager to try for themselves.

Hopefully this works.

it's perfect. <3

It wasn't what she was looking for, but somehow it was what she had found.

Heavenly Body had left her carefully decorated home that day with other intentions. The carousel's initial plans had been to buy more clothes for her... Hobbies, despite her already having a rather crowded closet. But, as most plans do, they went awry. The carousel had stumbled, literally, into the crowded viewing area for some sort of performance and what she saw left her entranced.

A small, delicate flutter with a fencing foil. An interesting juxtaposition in the mare's opinion. She'd always wished she had the talent and the hoof-eye coordination (or any sort of coordination at all) to do something so astounding. If she knew how to fight with a sword she wouldn't be hanging around here! She'd be off at sea as a pirate or in some palace protecting a young prince. She would be having a grand adventure like she always imagined the corpses that made their way to her had lived through. Something so different from the daily grind of adult life. It was what she always fantasized about.

The starry phony watched with pale blue eyes the whirring dervish that was the smaller mare as she seemed to battle off a veritable army of dwarves! Such grace! Such stamina! So merciful towards her foes! So kind! She was the ideal female heroine! The carousel let out a dreamy sigh as she watched, trying to wriggle through the growing crowd closer to the stage for a better view.

Were she in a real fight, not a single one of the foals would have touched her, as it was it was hard to fight instinct and allow one or two to 'win' against her. After all, she hardly cared about money, this was her passion, teaching a new generation was her dream and for that dream she'd gladly do it all for free. There were some who took to a blade naturally, already it was an extension of their body, two unicorn girls, and a little mer boy. There were others who had a spark in their eyes, not necessarily talented in any fashion, but there was joy in every thrust and flick of the foil. They had passion that Nacre could not dare pass up, a flutter boy, a little draft boy, and a scrappy pegasus girl who outright tried to bite her. Points for creativity at least. They were each allowed to succeed, a good first class if she said so herself. Others would likely join too, the few foals who didn't win but still had a desire. That too was good to foster.

She allowed all of the children to spar on the stage, giving them wrote motions to practice, occasionally correcting stance or how they held their weapon. The basics were important, even she had to learn them, and so too would they. The idea that they one day could be just like her spurned the children on, some trying to show off.

Most of the adults in the crowd were cheering for their children, some waving Nacre over to discuss getting their own child in the class. One or two asked if classes were available for adults. They were a touch hard to pay attention to, her eyes kept being drawn to one particular filly in the crowd. Maybe her beauty made her hard to ignore, or how flashy and glittering her coat, but ultimately time and time again she was drawn to those eyes. Passion, excitement, adventure, all brimmed beneath long lashes. They could not be ignored.

The foil she offered was longer, suited better for a carousel's size. Looked far too drab for someone of her looks, but Nacre could always provide something better in time.

"Would you care to try?"

Watching the foals gleeful attempts to defeat the lovely maiden brought a smile to Heavenly's muzzle. The children were so happy and the glorious knight so kind to allow them to get the occasional hit in so they wouldn't get discouraged. She'd even let a select few get the best of her when she clearly moved with trained expertise. She was perfect! Heavenly could hardly take her eyes off her and those brief moments when their eyes met... A shiver ran down the carousel's spine. For someone so talented to cast a glance her way!

The children were instructed and set about to practicing, giving the teacher a moment to interact with the older crowd and handle questions. The flutter seemed to handle that gracefully too. It was as if a sense of elegance and beauty was imbued into her very being as she skillfully navigated the sea of questions coming her way without a hair out of place despite her recent bouts.

The glittering mare was almost envious, this smaller female seemed to have everything she lacked. She really got along best with the dead. They wouldn't begrudge her interests or mock her clumsiness. She'd always thought they were the perfect companions, but still... She'd always longed to be someone else. Someone like this mare who'd stood so boldly on the stage and shown off her skills with a blade.

And now that mare was coming her way! Heavenly Body flushed, almost stumbling backwards as the flutter neared, offering a foil.

"M-me? Oh no. I don't think that's such a good idea," she squirmed in place, ducking her head as the crowd's eyes were drawn towards her. "I'm not so good at this kind of stuff."

"And what makes you think I sprung from the earth knowing how to wield a blade?" Such a funny thing to say, as if her or any of the children who wandered on stage had started out knowing instantly what to do. She could remember being a little foal and being utterly inspired by knights and swords, yet totally unable to carry even the lightest one with her tiny body. She'd worked herself down to bone and blood just to learn without a teacher. Dancing and fighting, both equally brutal on her little body, both the things she felt most alive doing. She wanted to give others that spark, that alive feeling, and above all else she wanted to give that stepping stone. Though not the easiest teacher, she was more gentle on others than she ever was on herself.

"What's the harm in taking a little chance?" She nodded her head toward the children on stage, many of which were now staring at the carousel. They weren't the only ones, the audience seemed focused on the two of them as well, starting to add to the goading. It'd be interesting to see a itty bitty flutter fighting a carousel after all.

She'd pull the sword back, but not rescinding her offer. Instead a simple demonstration. These were fencing foils, weighed about a pound, flexible and blunt. She dragged one across her leg to demonstrate that there could be no damage done. Perfectly harmless even in the hooves of the least graceful of ponies.

"See? Don't worry, you're not about to harm me. Not that you could touch me." She winked. "And what's the harm of looking a little... foolish every once and a while?" After all, the little ones had all looked silly on stage, clearly a few adults could afford to do the same.
