He was trying not to panic. It had been two days since he had been able to collect any energy or starseeds for his general, and the stress of not having a lot of time to actually hunt as well as not being able to find anyone to drain or take their starseed was already mentally and physically wearing Kamacite down. He did not want to know what would happen to him if the wolf considered him a failure, decided that Kamacite was not worth the time or effort to try and train.
He could already see himself as a lifeless corpse left in an alley somewhere, abandoned and left to rot.
Kamacite clutched at his robe, holding it closed over the hole in his chest as he waited impatiently for someone to appear that he could attack, jumping at every slight noise and movement, completely on edge to the point where he was surprised he was not yet hyperventilating. He felt clammy, sweat beading along his brow even in the cool night air.
He wasn’t sure what time it was, but he knew it was late when finally movement from someone caught his attention. A girl with dark hair who seemed to be walking home. Maybe a college student like himself, but he’d never seen her before.
Calm down. You’ll be okay, he told himself and tried drawing in a deep breath to settle himself as he stepped out of the shadows to approach her.
“Please wait,” he said only loud enough that he knew she could hear. “I need your help.”
It wasn’t a lie. He needed her. Otherwise he would likely be killed himself.

Today had been a short day at work. Really, she hadn't needed to actually be there. But they'd needed a few extra hands this morning while stocking. So, she'd volunteered. Because overtime this week! That was very much appreciated. So what if she sacrificed a little bit of sleeping in? There wasn't any class today and it had worked out nicely enough.
Enough so, that she was able to get a few errands run and still have time to take Thorin out for a walk. He'd looked so pitiful when she'd left that morning for work. And even more depressed when she came home for a few minutes to change and then rush back out to run errands.
But now the corgi was tugging at the end of his leash to get her to hurry up please because there had been Things to smell. It certainly was much more exciting be outside and not just chasing toys around the apartment!
Kodi had to laugh at his enthusiasm. They'd definitely taken a nice long walk, lingering around the park - where Thorin had barked at all the kids - and chased a ball around. Once evening had started to roll around, they had gone to get dinner at a little Mexican food place that didn't mind Thorin being outside and had a nice little patio they were able to sit at. Now, they were heading back home. Except Thorin was still not as warn out as Kodi would have liked. He was prancing like a good corgi, not pulling at the leash but still showing quite a bit of energy. She, on the other hand, stifled a yawn behind her hand.
"What I wouldn't give to have your energy supplies." She mused, Thorin darting around at shadows. The sun had definitely set and she was more than ready to be home and take a nice hot shower...
Thorin had stopped walking and Kodi almost tripped over him. "Thorin-" She heard the voice, eyes widening and looking for the one who had spoke. A young man was looking at her. Was it him...
"Are you okay?" She asked with concern, glancing up and down the street to see if there was anyone else around. But no, they were alone. A small part of her felt a hint of fear, but he'd said he needed help! Moving a little closer, but cautiously, Kodi approached. "Are you hurt? Or in trouble?" Thorin just growled lightly, a soft 'Hush!' coming from his person.

A dog? Kamacite froze and stared at the dog when he saw it, immediately taking a step back. It was a small dog, so that was okay, but… he didn’t really want to leave the poor animal without someone to take care of it. Maybe once he took her starseed, he would bring the dog to the shelter. Surely they would be able to find him a good home. “Um, yes… I need help,” he said quietly, looking from the girl to the dog again as it growled at him. Could animals sense things like auras? There was no one else around. He should attack her now. It would be easier that way. “I dropped my keys under the dumpster in the alley. I can’t reach it and I can’t move it on my own,” he lied. He was bad at lying, but it was the only chance he had to try and lure her towards him. “I am so sorry to bother you with this, but I would be very grateful for some help moving it a little. It shouldn’t take much. I’m just not that strong on my own.” He was desperate. If she didn’t follow after him, he would just grab her before she had the chance to escape.

Kodi frowned, watching the young man. There was something... she couldn't quite place what it was. But it made some part of her remain cautious. Even with Thorin, said corgi standing between her and the new person, ears flicking to and fro.
"I... I can try to help... what do you need help with?" If it was in her ability, she could at least do that much. And then high tail it home.
Her gaze flickered towards the alley. There was indeed a dumpster back there, full of trash which would definitely make it heavier. And, okay, she could totally picture someone doing exactly what he claimed. Not to mention, he did look kind of... well. She could probably move something heavy a little bit easier.
There wasn't anyone else around to let help the poor guy either. Kodi hesitated, looking around once more before sighing. "A-Alright. But let's be quick. I really need to be getting home." Against her better judgement, she did follow after him, gripping Thorin's leash tightly. The corgi was Not Happy about coming down here. He wanted to go the Other Way That Did Not Smell. He growled again at the strange human again, trying to tug on his leash. Guine feel free to manhandle her a bit if needed! Thorin might bite though... x3

He was sure she was a nice girl, someone who went to school and had a family. She obviously had a dog to take care of. But Kamacite hadn’t been able to collect his quota and he was desperate. Besides, it wasn’t as though he had any intention of hurting her. Just dazing her a bit, and then draining her energy until she passed out. Then she wouldn’t even feel it when he took her starseed. “I completely understand. I just need some extra help and that’s all. I really appreciate it,” he told her as she followed him into the alley. He felt bad about it, he really did. But he had to do what he had to do. As soon as she was inside the shadow of the alley, close to the dumpster in question, he turned, his expression determined. “Solar flare!” he said as he reached out to her, the brightness of the flash hopefully enough to daze both her and her dog. He reached out and grabbed hold of the collar of her shirt, pulling her further into the alley and pushed her up against the wall. He had to act fast in case she tried to fight back. His hands pressed tight against her shoulders as he started draining her of her energy, watching as a small orb began to form. “I’m sorry. I really do appreciate your help, though,” he said quietly, before focusing back on his task at hand. Kyrieko There is a brilliant flash of light causing temporary but immediate disorientation and blindness that fades into horribly spotty vision; can last upwards of twenty seconds. The attack does not cause physical damage and is intended as a diversion or distraction. Has an effect radius of 8 feet (although the flash can be seen as one would see any flash), and can be used three times.

She still had that uneasy feeling, but she kept telling herself that was silly and she couldn't be distrustful of every strange individual she ran into now! But between the strange situation, her unease, and Thorin trying to tug them back out of the alleyway, Kodi wasn't so sure about her choice any longer.
"Alright. We'll get it moved quickly then." She said with more courage. Just quickly move the damn dumpster. Make sure he got his keys. And then she'd be gone. Maybe call someone to talk with while she walked the rest of the way home? Yes. That was a good plan.
Kodi glanced down at Thorin, "We'll be quick, okay?" She murmured to the corgi, glancing back up to ask if it was the closest dumpster. His expression was her only warning. But too late, she'd been caught.
Words barely registered as she felt suddenly like she might have vertigo. The dog yelped in his own surprise, pulling his leash free but stumbling into the wall and laying down while panting and whining. Kodi stumbled with a mumbled curse, hand reaching out to grab at anything... except something grabbed her. She tried speaking again, but it didn't come out right as she tried to blink rapidly. And couldn't see. What was... where was the guy... where was Thorin?! What was that against her back? She tried desperately to make sense of things, but there was a fog that kept trying to enclose around her.
Sorry? That voice... this. Was this... ? The word was just out of reach in her mind. Guine Kodi is like, I am never being a good samaritan again!!!

It wasn’t as though he didn’t feel guilty about it. It wasn’t as though he liked what he was doing; it was just something he had to do. It was necessary. And he made sure it was as painless as possible when he could.
"Just breathe, it’ll be okay," he said quietly, but it wasn’t clear if he was talking to the girl or to himself as he drew the energy from her. He was aware of the dog still somewhere close by, and he made a mental note to try and get the dog to a safe place, or at least tie his leash to something so he wouldn’t run into the road.
"Almost done," he mumbled, the orb resting in his palm, giving him a breath of relief now that he’d been able to collect some of the energy he needed. He just needed her starseed and that would be it for the night.
Kamacite reached out to take hold of one of the girl’s arms, gently trying to ease her down to the ground so she wouldn’t completely collapse. Taking starseeds was already painful enough. Once she was settled on the ground, he bit at his lip. She was still conscious, but he was running late and needed her starseed. Carefully he knelt down beside her and pressed his hand over her chest, sinking his hand inside. Kyrieko We can call in help if you'd like! ouo <3
