It was going to be weird to talk to a younger Ro who remembered nothing about him. Jordan had initially thought to give this explanation in the cafeteria, where he could at least have a cup of coffee while he went through the basic information about Deus ex Machina. However, it had quickly occurred to him that he was going to be explaining about summoning, and that was better done outdoors. Accordingly, a few minutes after the Twitter conversation, he stood on the training fields, waiting for Roland. He wore the uniform coat and scarf, as he would for any new trainee.

When Roland arrived the first thing Jordan would notice was just how smaller the hunter was. He'd already been a lean and fairly short figure, but now at 4'10 he was swimming in her intermediate coat. The split coat tails almost touching the ground as he walked across the training field. His jeans where replaced with oversized shorts that covered almost all his legs and a belt that looked far too big but some how managed to hold them in place. Along with the barrier dagger tucked into it.
It wasn't hard to pick out Jordan, he did look like his Twitter icon after all. So he made his way over to the fully dressed hunter pausing a few feet away to size him up. By which it was mostly just being impressed by how cool he looked in that coat with his scarf. In that moment he became aware of just how the shoulders in his seemed a bit too wide, the sleeves rolled up to cuff just past his wrists even though he had rolled them 3 times to get it to fit, never mind he was wearing flipflops a few sizes too big which he promptly kicked off before getting his bare feet comfortable in the grass.
"So um, I guess this is the training field then?" He looked around, "The more I think about all this.... its like I ended up in one of those military prep schools dad always wanted." His face took on a sour tone as he reflected on that.

Jordan carefully kept surprise and faint amusement off his face. Ro was small and short as a kid, and the oversized clothes made him look even smaller. However, he undoubtedly already knew that, and saying anything about it would just be sort of cruel. "This is the training field," he agreed. The next thing Ro said made him pause, giving Ro a rueful look. "Kind of," he said. "Deus ex Machina is a private militia that fights supernatural creatures that threaten humans. I don't know if it will help to know that you chose this path, when you were older. It isn't a school. Normally you wouldn't be here before you were at least 18. You were 22 before this happened, if I remember right. You've been on the island for a while, and you were an intermediate trainee. I don't know what your rank will be now; you'll probably need to talk to your division leader to find that out."

Roland was indeed aware of his awkwardness, but he still stood somewhat tall. The coat helped. It was rather cool coat to ware even if it didn’t fit. He took a moment to look around the field again noting some other hunters with the strangest weapons like right out of an anime or cartoon. When he turned back to Jordan he groaned, “It’s exactly what I hated about my dad. He always wanted me to be in the military and to go to some prep school to be all… like him.” He made a dismissive gesture flinging one arm wide before he crossed both arms over his chest.
“I think someone mentioned supernatural stuff on twitter. So we’re like. Vampire hunters then?” Somewhere in the back of his mind Sylvia started to speak, << Well vampires are kinda rude, they made fun of my dress because they all had nicer clothes at school. >> This of course made Roland pause mid thought changing his attention to the voice. “Vampires aren’t real, why would you go to school with them?”
He looked back at Jordan, “Sorry Sylvia had something to say. But I still… I wait…. I was 22, that’s like,” he paused to count his fingers and to think about it, “THAT’S ALMOST SIX YEARS!? And what do you mean intermediate? And my rank now? What if I don’t want to do this? What’s a division?” Panic was slowly creeping into his voice, as much as he pathetically tried to hide it.

"Among other things. Vampires are real, along with a lot of other creatures that you've been told were fictional. Sylvia was also a Fear creature." Jordan sighed. "The bad news is that you can't go back. You're legally dead. When you came here, your death was faked. Aside from that, there are creatures that are extremely hostile to Hunters that will target your family if you attempt to go back to them; it's not safe. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but you need to know."

"S-she mentioned she was a Banshee. It would explain how she can get really loud in my head, but how did she get there? She just wants her body back." The news about being dead made his face go pale. His eyes going a bit wider. He continued to stand there for a moment mostly stunned to learn what his fate was.
"I... so I've been dead since I was sixteen? But I don't remember agreeing to any of this like you said..." He frowned, "It happened when I was older?" He was at least putting some of the pieces together. He slowly sank down to the ground sitting down as he rubbed his forehead a bit. "I guess... I guess it's good that, I don't have that family anymore... it wasn't. It wasn't good. But they where my family?" He wasn't entirely sure how to feel about this news.

"Not since you were sixteen. You were eighteen when you chose to come here, I think. Your memory has been wiped as well as your physical age reverting to sixteen." He avoided saying that the memories had been taken; that had implications that he didn't want to explain right now, and he wasn't certain anyway. "I'm sorry about your family; I wish I had better news for you." He shook his head.
"Sylvia, you have become a weapon. A scythe, specifically. You and Ro are permanently bonded. That's what makes you a Hunter, Ro; you and she will be together for the rest of your life. Everyone here is bonded to a weapon."

“So all that stuff on my phone, it was me, it was all real,” he gulped a bit, maybe deleting it wasn’t a good idea, but the things he saw in there also showed him parts of himself he wasn’t sure he liked. Things he said or did, he only skimmed but he had been quick to delete it all thinking it was for the better. “I don’t, I don’t know if its bad that I’m gone. We had problems. Dad was angry. And if ghosts are real, then the shadow in our house was real. It followed us everywhere and it made things worse.” He glanced away from Jordan, “They never believed me about it.”
Finally the topic turned to Sylvia, the faceless voice suddenly much more interested in the conversation then her own thoughts. She had been listening but most of what she heard she knew. She was after all a ghoul going to Amity. The best school of them all! << Why is he calling me a weapon? A sctythe? Did they kill me to make me disappear too to come here and why am I stuck in here? >> Her questions became faster, almost more eager or panicked in a way. “S-she has a lot of questions.” He clenched his eyes rubbing his forehead, “She says she was going to take finals soon, she wants to go back to school. And why is she a scythe, how does everyone know that? And why does it make us hunters?”

"It was real, yes. The stuff on your phone was you. You're Fear sensitive, which is to say, sensitive to Fear energies. You were either born with the ability to see things that most people can't or exposed to a high concentration of Fear at some point. Either way, that's why you were capable of bonding to a weapon and becoming a hunter." Jordan's voice gentled. "All of us saw the shadows. Very few had anyone who believed what we saw."
He sighed again. "I'm sorry, Sylvia. You can't go back either. Your physical form is now that of a weapon, or your unsummoned form is your totem." He held up his right hand and tapped the ring on his index finger. "This is my weapon, Ferros, in his totem form. I know that Sylvia is a scythe because I've seen her before. The weapons let us defend ourselves and fight against hostile Fear creatures, because the weapon bond makes us tougher and stronger than normal humans and capable of using the weapons' Fear capabilities."
Ferros stirred in Jordan's mind. It is lot to take in, he said sympathetically. I hope she chose this.
I do too.

Again it was all a lot to take in right now, and Jordan at least seemed to understand that. Though it still didn't stop the fact that it was a heavy bit to take in. "So you could see them. The shadows, we could all see it." He rubbed his face again thinking about this. What came next was yelling and anger, Sylvia having an outburst.
<< I AM NOT A WEAPON. >> The scream came with a pulse of pain from the small scythe shaped ear ring in his left ear that made him double down rubbing at his head as if to try and drive the voice out.
"S-she isn't handling this well," he continued to rub at his face as he tried to focus on Jordan and what he was explaining, he was sure that ear ring in his ear was the totem thing now. For now she retreated, her anger still simmering, to be called a weapon. She didn't take that news very well.

"Yes. I was relatively lucky. My brother could see them too, so I knew I wasn't crazy. It's a relief to know that it's not just you," Jordan nodded.
"I can see that." He put a hand briefly on Ro's shoulder, sympathetic. "I suspect she wouldn't be particularly happy to be summoned right now, so I won't ask you to try that yet. It's easier if she's feeling cooperative. Do you have any particular questions you want to ask me?"

“No one could see them, now everyone can, and you’re telling me I hunt them.” Somewhere in his head Sylvia puffed up again, << YOU HUNT US! I bet that’s what it is you hurt students and stuff but what did we do to all of you!? And why am I a weapon still! >> She sounded on the verge of tears again which did little to help Roland from wanting to break down himself. “N-no she doesn’t want it, I don’t even think I want it right now.” The sympathetic touch was nice, but he was still confused, his head hurt from Sylvia’s anger being let lose and this whole situation still didn’t make sense. His solution was to remain on the ground taking a seat as he tried to sort it all out. “You said, I had a division, this is our job. Tell me about that I guess.”

It wasn't something that could be reversed, but Jordan didn't repeat that. Roland and Sylvia both would have to come to terms with that fact on their own, and restating it wasn't going to speed up the process any. Jordan followed suit and sat down on the ground so that he wouldn't be looming over the boy.
"All right. The divisions are the formal groupings of the roles Hunters take. There are five -- Sun, Moon, Life, Death, and Mist. Sun and Moon are the combat divisions, with Sun focusing on offensive fighting and Moon on defense. Moon also does construction and repair, and Sun does combat training. Death is the information and reconnaissance division. Life does research and development, and runs the infirmary. Mist learns a little of everything, and fills in for any of the division roles on missions. Your division is shown in the pattern on your coat." He pulled the side panel of his coat around so that Ro could see the stylized sun. "I'm in Sun. You're in Mist. If you find that your division isn't a good fit for you, you can apply for a transfer through the division leaders, but you'll need to justify it to them."

The two sat in the dirt together properly now as Roland mulled over all the information in his head again. they where stuck like this? Sylvia didn't like it, he wasn't sure about it, they needed to work together to summon her. Did he want to summon her? He probably should so he could deal with "shadows" and "FEAR" whatever they might actually be. Eventually they got to the break down of the divisions. For the most part he listened, with Sylvia ease dropping on the whole thing. He gazed at Jordan's sun before turning to check the tails of his coat and the trailing mist that lingered in its pattern. "....was I good at being a hunter? Honestly?"

"I didn't work with you often, but you seemed to be doing well," Jordan said, meeting Ro's eyes. "You made it to your first promotion, and that's not insignificant. You and Sylvia seemed to have a good relationship, and that's important too." He didn't have a lot of good news for a young kid without memories who was now stuck with a life he hadn't chosen yet, nor for a ghoul who remembered being something else and didn't want to be a weapon. He could only hope that time would help settle their anxiety and smooth over the difficulties.
