xxx»» Nathaniel doesn't see why people get worked up over everything all the time; for the most part, he views any intense reaction to something to be an overreaction. Unless he's faced with some grave injustice, he's unlikely to lose his temper. He feels deeply, but keeps his emotions in check. He likes to play mediator when people argue, only because he knows that for the most part, he can keep a level head, and hopefully help calm down whoever is involved. He's not particular about much of anything, be it movies or games or food. If friends want to do something, he's usually up for it, no matter what it is. He has his own preferences, but for the most part he's just as happy to do what someone else wants to do.

xxx»» Nath prides himself on keeping a level head at all times; he likes to think about things from a logical perspective, rather than letting his emotions or biases get in the way. He's somewhat prone to playing the Devil's Advocate, not so much to change another person's mind, but to try and help them understand the other side. Rarely, if ever, is any one person absolutely in the right or wrong of any given situation, and that understanding helps him navigate through his life. He's more than willing to hear an argument against him, and will consider what is being said before making judgements. Of course, his rationality fails at times, and he's often blind to it, because from his perspective, he always considers logic before making decisions, so therefore he can't be wrong.
GEEKY
xxx»» For the most part, Nathaniel is a very quiet person. He prefers to listen in, and only speak when he has a point to make. But, once you get him on the topic of something he's interested in, his entire persona changes. He becomes exceptionally enthusiastic, and will prattle on and on about his interests. He consumes fandom content like a vacuum, delighting at arts of his favorite characters, song parodies, fan theories, you name it. He's easy to sway into liking most things, even if he plays the part of the critic at times, and once he's in, he's in for the long haul. Trends come and go, but he refuses to let go of anything he loves. He can be distracted by something new, but he will always hold onto his old interests, even if they're not at the forefront of his mind.

xxx»» Nath likes to keep his thoughts to himself, unless he has something he thinks needs to be said. He can come across to a stranger as being aloof, because he doesn't open up with others until he's comfortable with them. He thinks most people are generally decent enough, but that doesn't mean he's willing to run the risk of being hurt if someone has an exceptionally bad day and lashes out against him. He knows that being a good person doesn't mean you're perfect, and wants to know he can trust people and that they're like-minded before he lets them get to know him. He sometimes has difficulty in this regard, since not many people are willing to open up to someone who never shares about themselves. He's never been particularly popular as a result. For the most part, he doesn't mind, though sometimes he does get lonely.

xxx»» Nath doesn't let go of things, he doesn't waffle, he doesn't waver. Part of the benefit of holding himself back initially is that by the time he commits, he knows he can commit fully and safely without much fear of the consequences. He doesn't give his trust or loyalty without it being earned, and so he feels confident that he's made a good investment. Once he's made that investment, be it in a person, a project, an event, whatever, he's not going to back out. He believes in seeing things through to the end. Getting him to drop an obviously doomed commitment is all but impossible. He can be swayed with facts and figures, but you'd better be prepared to present them, possibly in a power point. If the issue is one of emotions, appealing to his logical side can be either helpful, or make him dig his heels in deeper, depending on how it's framed.

xxx»» Nath believes firmly that the most important thing in life is to always be good to one another. He was raised that your life should be about making the lives of everyone around you better (though not to your own detriment). He smiles at strangers when they seem down, he compliments people as much as he can, any little thing he can do to make another person's day even a little better. When it comes to his friends and families, he loves nothing more than turning a bad day good, except maybe making a good day better (because he'd never wish for his loved ones to have a bad day).

CHILDHOOD
xxx»» Nathaniel's parents had something of a complicated relationship. They loved each other, or so they claim, but that didn't stop them from fighting constantly. Most of his earliest memories are of his parents yelling at one another in their bedroom, either unknowing or uncaring of the fact that he could hear them down the hall. He doesn't really remember them very well, aside from the fighting. He has vague memories of picnics and going to the zoo, of his mother being very pretty when she smiled, of the way his father's hair was greying at the temples. But, if asked, he'd have to say they were utter strangers to him.
xxx»» When he was four, things came to a head; he doesn't know what happened, really. There was yelling, like there always was, and some banging and crashing, furniture being shoved and personal items being thrown. Eventually, screaming, and crying. Apparently, it wasn't just loud enough to hear down the hall that night. Shortly after the yelling started, there was a cop at the door, stating that there'd been a call about a domestic disturbance. Things blurred after that; Nathaniel remembers his mother answering the door, and trying very hard to hide the fact that her arm was broken. His dad, hiding in the bedroom because there was no way to cover up the blood on his face. The next thing he knew, he wasn't allowed to go home anymore. Instead, he was sent to live with his maternal grandparents. He's not really sure what happened to his parents; his grandparents wouldn't talk about it, they got very upset at the mention of it and would say he was 'too young to worry about that.'
xxx»» He was eight when his magic first showed; of course, he'd known it was possible, because his father had been magic. Unfortunately, no one told his grandparents, so they were quite surprised when their Christmas ornaments started floating as they set up the tree that year. Not remembering very much, Nathaniel couldn't tell them anything, except that his dad could do stuff like that, and had done it all the time. Unfortunately, they had no desire whatsoever to contact his father, or his father's family. They decided they'd been raising him just fine before, they'd do just fine raising him now, magic or not. It turned out to not be a very big deal, since Nath wasn't one for the emotional outbursts that often prompt accidental magic. But, they were certainly relieved when he received his Hogwarts letter and they finally got a proper explanation for everything.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» Nathaniel got off to a good start at school, finding the magical world fascinating and eager to dive right in. He made a couple of friends, though he wasn't overly eager to socialize much, preferring to focus on his studies and his extracurricular activities. Namely, the Drama club, which he joined with great enthusiasm. Possibly too much, given that he was placed in charge of it once the previous captains graduated. He took to the club well enough, though he was often nervous about how well he was actually doing at running it. He at least had Theo and Laili to help. He and Laili actually grew quite close due to the club, and even dated for a while, before Laili came to the conclusion that Nath was gay. He'd known that, deep down, but had fought against it due to knowing his grandparents wouldn't approve. He chose to keep it to himself and focus on his exam studies, but found he couldn't quite keep to this plan when Theo asked him on a date. He took advantage of them being away at school and his grandparents being muggles, knowing that they would never hear about what was going on in his personal life unless he told them. Still, he knew that come graduation, he would have to tell them.

ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Nath began working odd jobs as a handyman for the most part post-graduation, not really sure what he wanted to do with himself. He was more worried about his personal life, which proved a valid concern when, upon being told about his sexuality and relationship with Theo, his grandparents promptly kicked him out. Luckily, he and Theo were able to move in together, and Nath made decent money doing carpentry and some minor home repairs for people.
