Joy's first attempt at adobo had not worked out as well as she hoped. The ovens in this place were weird and caused Joy to overcook the first batch. She ate them anyway because she hated to waste food and she didn't cook that much on her first go.
Maybe she ought to stick to something simpler and easier. Garlic friend rice with fried egg and whatever meat she could find should be doable. Nothing too finicky temperature-wise plus, they could be reheated later. Yeah, she was definitely making those. Despite the whole stuck-on-some-island issue, Joy was starting to feel better. She felt good enough that she decided to make food for some of the other teenagers on the island.
A certain wheelchair-bound teen came to mind. When she finished, she sent him a text (apparently that PDA was a super fancy high-tech phone? Who knew!) asking him if he'd gone anywhere outside the dorm building.

Kai sat in his wheelchair, going through a backpack he collected and looking around the dorm for anything he might want to take with him. The place was nice and clean, smelling like fresh air, an he knew there had to be something valuable here if someone nice lived here.
The text just made him think he was being watched, which made sense with child services. He just thought it was silly considering he was in a wheelchair and couldn't run anywhere.

Text to Kai K. On d way w/ fud. Hope ur nt allergic 2 garlic. Or eggs. Or hotdogs. Was what Joy sent back. She only asked so she knew where to go instead of wandering around all over the place to the point the food got cold and she'd have to reheat them. Which would be a waste of time that could have been spent eating. Food was serious business to the teen.

He paused what he was doing and turned his chair around, putting his bag down and waiting, staring at the door.
Somewhere, outside this door, there was food for him.

Joy would eventually arrive at the dorm building make her way to the room Kai had claimed while the adults sorted things out. Or didn't. She knew where to get food and they weren't making her do weird stuff so she didn't really care about them.
Balancing the plates, Joy managed to knock on the door before entering. Manners and privacy and all that jazz. "Yo! I got some food here for you," she said as she entered. Hopefully the room had a table because otherwise this stuff was going to be put on the bed.

A table didn't even cross his mind as he sat there.
"Hey. Thanks." And then extended his arms out to take whatever had been made.

Joy handed the plate of food to him, thinking he'd wheel himself to the nearest table as she sat herself down on the bed. "No prob," she said, settling in before handing the utensils to him next. "Hope it tastes okay, the appliances here're kinda more advanced than what I got back home. And I'm not familiar with the brands they got either."

"Thanks. I was hungry." Plate on his lap, he took the offered utensils and then stared to eat, piling up each forkful before it taking a bite and chewing, moving to fill it again. The shoveling was quick as he worked to fill his entire mouth.

"Huy, laxre lang," Joy found herself remarking without thinking, watching Kai all but inhale the food. "Ay, um, I mean slow down there. You might make bulunan or something, shet what is that word in English?" she muttered the last bits beneath her breath.

"Blow chunks? Mebbe? Just chill," the teen shrugged, unsure of the phrase but hey at least Kai did slow down. She was still somewhat mulling over her vocabulary when he asked what their relationship was now.
"What? No!" was her knee-jerk reaction, "Uh no offense. I mean," she sighed in frustration as she buried her face in her hands, "I don't really know what I'm doing here. Miss Caroline said we came here and were not kidnapped or sold off by our parents, and then Kuya Clyde said we used to be adults?"
She flopped backwards onto the bed to stare up at the ceiling.

Licking his fork clean, he went to eat again. "Them folks just messin with ya. Dis is child services. We got shipped." He filled his mouth up and started chewing again.

"Malabo 'yan," Joy snapped, made a face, then translated "I mean, not likely. There're no cops or or paper stuffs we signed. And shouldn't there be more adults around?" She didn't sit up as she rattled off what little she knew about the system apart from what television showed her.

"Cops only take ya. We're already here. Adults don't gotta watch us. New place doesn't mean better." He said, talking with his mouth full and swallowing a bit before eating more.
"What else you can cook?"

"You remember being taken away? To this place?" Joy cautiously asked, propping herself up with her elbows while she wondered if there really was some merit to Kai's statement of social services. "Do you hear a voice in your head too?"
She did break out into a grin at the question of cooking, "Simple fried stuff. Some barbecued dishes. Salads but anyone can cook salads."
