The morning had started off dull, then lightened up with Grendel's revelation. Prissy wasn't about to mention her upgrade to her best friend - not yet, at least. While she was beaming with excitement, she knew her bestie was still experiencing some troubles from He Who Would Not Be Named and probably wouldn't appreciate knowing that Prissy was now all-powerful and super extra cool. She'd just have to wait until KittyKat was feeling more amiable and could appreciate the self-promotion like Prissy did.

Pausing in her walk towards the mall's entrance, she smiled at herself. Was this what maturity felt like? She liked it.

Yoinking her phone out of her purse, she flipped the screen open and shot a text to her dark haired darling.

Text to KittyKat
i'm heading in. u already there?

Last year, she'd been tricked into a horrible movie for her birthday celebration. This year, Prissy had insisted they return to the movie theater as an inexpensive and lighthearted attempt at partying....and redeeming herself for last year's fiasco. Deadpool - what kind of superhero name was that?

Heels clicked their way past the automatic doors and she glanced over towards the escalators leading up to the theater.

Katrina had arrived at the theater an hour ago. Twenty minutes prior to receiving the text she had purchased their movie tickets before getting in line for snacks. When her phone buzzed in her pocket she drew it out, sending a quick text back to her bestie.

[ Text to Miss Priss: Inside with your ticket & snacks. Birthday movie's on me. ]

What she hadn't told Prissy yet was that she'd had a moment that morning in which she'd decided to take the 'New Year, New You' thing a bit further than she had initially anticipated. Katrina had initially gone to the salon just to get her ends trimmed off and her color touched up and, somehow, it had turned into a full haircut, style and color. It would either be a pleasant surprise for the pinkette or it would give her something to fuss about-- She was pretty sure that Prissy still enjoyed fussing over things, at least.

Bypassing her way past the entrance of the theater, she glanced at her phone and smiled. Free grub on top of a movie? It wasn't Cheesecake Factory-level food, but the theater's chocolate-covered gummy bears were practically divine. And, if KittyKat found herself distracted enough by the movie, Prissy had full intentions of stealing at least half of the other girl's popcorn.

Truthfully, Prissy wasn't certain if KittyKat would be up for a romantic movie. When she'd perused the list of flicks, 50 Shades Darker had sounded intriguing. The main character looked hot, the girl looked okay and the one, lonely preview she'd seen on television had been promising. It looked romantic, fluffy and perfect for the hybrid Valentine's Birthday friendate.

Slipping inside, she looked towards the concession line for her companion. What she saw, however, was a girl who looked like Katrina but not. Was that... could it be...?

Stepping forward, she let out a soft hmph sound as she sidled by the "stranger".

"You decided to leave out this tidbit for in-person effect, I take it?" Her straight face faltered, curling into a smile. "I like it."

"Didn't want to give you a chance to tell me it was a bad idea before you got to see the color in person." Katrina flashed her friend a broad grin, spring green eyes gleaming. She nudged Prissy's elbow lightly with her own before holding out the box of chocolate covered gummy bears.

"Glad you approve, though. Happy birthday, Priss." Once her friend had taken the candy she pulled the tickets out of her pocket, shuffling them into the hand with the bag of popcorn so that she could then scoop up the drink carrier. Once they were settled they could make their way to their theater.

"You're sure you want to see this movie? I know I've already got the tickets and all, so I'm definitely committed to it if you are absolutely sure that you want to see it." She'd heard things; mostly awful things, about the series that the film was a part of. Associating Prissy with something so trashy just seemed so incredibly out of place...

She cut her eyes in her best friend's direction, giving her the best really look she could muster. It was one thing that she was trying to be kind to KittyKat about her current relationship woes, but did she really feel that Prissy was that sensitive about lost love?

Alright, so she wasn't completely over the disappearance of her pseudo-boyfriend, but that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy a nice sappy romance like the next 22 year old!

"I would love nothing more than to see this. It's Valentine's Day - it's almost a rule that if you're going to see a movie on this day, it has to be a romantic one."

Gripping the gummies, she snatched one of the sodas and took a long sip from the straw, turning on her heels in the direction of the overhead sign that read 50 Shades Darker. Below the entrance, several clusters of women were scattered around. Very few men were present, all of which looked rather pained and awkward as they shifted their footing, casting glances at the carpet when they weren't giving their significant others pleading expressions.

See? Everyone was in the mood for some mushy, gushy love story - this was going to be perfect!

Katrina stared at Prissy for a moment, trying to figure out whether or not they were actually talking about the same movie. Nothing about what she'd read in any reviews of the book or the first film made 50 Shades seem romantic, but...

It was Prissy's birthday and she'd conned the pinkette into going to see Deadpool with her last year, so it was only fair that she followed suit to step into line with everyone else who seemed confused as to why they were there alongside twittering girlfriends. They waited until the theater had been cleaned from its previous viewing before following the line in to find seats. Katrina let her friend lead the way while she balanced the oversized popcorn and her drink, knowing that Priss would find the perfect seats for optimal viewing-- No sitting behind anyone who was too tall, no one who seemed like they might chat the whole way through, and dead center in the middle of a row so they'd have the best view of the screen.

Of course, the 'perfect seats' would also make it almost perfectly impossible to leave if Prissy decided that the movie wasn't her. Oh well, at least she had popcorn. Plus the theater had upgraded their soda machines to the ones that let you mix a myriad of flavored syrups so she had a vanilla coke with a hint of raspberry to sip at while waiting for disaster to strike.

Prissy had no qualms with shoving her way past the gaggle of girls that loitered around the cinema's entrance, her hot pink oversized top brushing against their inferior looking outfits as black leggings sashayed their way past the confused men and down the aisle. Perfect seats were definitely a must - there was no way around it. It was her birthday and so Prissy was bound and determined to get her way.

Stepping up the first several seats, she immediately slid into the first row on the rising, heading directly down the middle of the section until she found the seat precisely in the middle of the theater. Dropping her strawberry soda into the cupholder, she turned around and pushed the edges of her shirt forward as her bottom took a gracefully swift plop into the seat.

Heels pushed up onto the metal barring - leave it to Prissy to find the seats with the make-shift foot rests - and pink fingernails immediately began tearing into the box of chocolate gummies as she glanced up to ensure her friend was following after.

"So what brought on the hair change, may I ask? I didn't get an invitation to the beauty salon, after all."

"I thought I was going in for a trim-- Get some dead ends taken off, you know?" Katrina tossed a few kernels of popcorn into her mouth as she settled into a seat, chewing on them thoughtfully for a moment. "If I'd known going in there that I was going to walk out with a major change you know I would have brought you in for a consultation." Her words were accompanied by a meaningful look before she popped another piece of popcorn past her lips.

Things like major shifts in style or extreme haircuts were stuff you were supposed to consult best friends about anyways. You were supposed to lie on beds while flipping through fashion magazines with photos of famous celebrities on the front cover. It was how bad decisions and fashion faux paus were avoided.

Fortunately, her hair had turned out fantastic and Prissy hadn't said anything terrible about it either...

"We're still on for the 'treat yourself' mani/pedi combo next week, though, right? The weather's evened out enough that a few races have been posted on the boards and I should have a little extra spending money. It can still be my treat-- Belated birthday pampering and all."

"That could work."

One hand rose, absentmindedly studying the do-it-herself Barbie pink color that shone back at her. Thanks to the darkness of the theater, her slip-ups and uneven sides weren't nearly as noticeable. It would do her fingers good to feel the soft touch of the nail technician, the warm water and the rough sandpaper feel of the file as it chipped away her wayward cuticles. And to have it handed to her, for free?

Who could say no?

"As long as we do something flattering, colorwise." The hand returned to digging into the cardboard box for another gummy, popping a chocolate treat into her mouth. "I've been thinking about doing one of those color changing ones - the pink to red one, maybe? Or coral... I guess I could try coral."

People ushered in around them, filing into the seats below and behind them. Prissy continued propping her legs up on the railing, forcing anyone who wanted to go on the other side of her to enter from the other direction - five minutes until the movie started, according to the glow of her iPhone screen.

"What about you? Gonna get an accent to match that new 'do of yours?"

"Mm... Matte black, maybe, with gloss tips? Possibly a big, bright pink heart right here." Katrina tapped the nail on her middle finger as opposed to the ring finger that trend had seen numerous people paint completely different from the rest of their nails for some odd reason. It wasn't like she had any reason to show off that particular finger. She wasn't wearing a ring and didn't care who was interested in whether she was or wasn't.

Thank god it hadn't come to that between she and what's his name. It would have made things even harder to bounce back from then they already had been...

"Color change could be interesting. There's ones that change with temperature and some that change with sunlight-- Did you know they even have colors now that pop under a black light while looking completely normal when you're out somewhere boring?" Next time a big dance party came through she was going to make sure that she could get two tickets and drag Prissy along too, just to say she did.

They chatted a bit more about little things, girly things, while waiting for the previews to start. As the lights went down she leaned back in her seat, finally propping her own feet up comfortably to nibble on popcorn as the movie started.

It had started innocently enough. Or rather, the start was probably the most innocent thing about the movie from Prissy's point of view. Christian Grey had been handsome from the moment of his appearance on the screen, but it didn't take long for his words and actions to create a dark blush across her pale cheeks, alongside Anastasia's.

As the movie continued, Prissy found herself sinking deeper and deeper into her chair. Pink hair was rising as the back of her head pushed back harder against the seat, the young woman shrinking and shrinking - her hand reached out to unceremoniously grab the half-empty bucket away from KittyKat, providing a decent enough face covering as she dug her fist into the bucket and drew out a handful of kernels, shoving the mass into her mouth.

Okay. So.

This movie was definitely overplaying the romantic undertones.

What had she gotten them into??

At one point Katrina had glanced up at the screen while also, unfortunately, taking a sip from her drink. She sputtered at what was on the scene and then promptly began choking.

"Shhhh."

Someone in the row behind her piped up as she continued to cough, lowering her feet from the rail and setting down her soda cup. Beside her, Priscilla set the tub of popcorn down on the floor, turning to glare at the person who had shushed Katrina.

"Can't you see she's choking?" The pinkette hissed before taking advantage of her friend's misfortune. Kat was yanked up by the arm with a 'we are getting out of here right now' and then promptly ushered out of the theater by her best friend.

Gummy bears and strawberry soda long forgotten, she gave the other girl a final harsh yank through the theater's door before letting the heavy thing swing back into place, swaying with nearly equal force to her shove. The choking had presented a rare opportunity for escape and Priscilla wasn't about to say no to leaving such a disaster.

"I can't believe you would let me go into a movie like that."

Nevermind that it had been her idea to begin with - she was innocently, clearly enough. Kat was the one who got her hands dirty, surely she'd known about how utterly scandalous this movie was supposed to be. It obviously hadn't been rated "R" for the language, like she'd naively assumed. How could her friend do that to her, two years in a row??

"I hope you're happy with yourself." Arms folded over her chest as she stared crossly at the other girl. "I hope there wasn't anyone in that theater that we actually might know. Can you imagine what they'd think of me, if they saw me in a movie like that?"

Skye Starrfyre

"Me?" The word came out like a croak as she coughed again before raising her gaze to stare at her friend. "I tried to talk you out of it but," she waved her hand dismissively at the theater doors as she took a deep breath and released it, airway finally clear of whatever she'd sucked down from the straw.

"You insisted that we were going to see that because it was your pick after the--- What was it you said? Disaster last year? I think those were the words. So you said that you wanted to see this one and you know what? It's your birthday, so if you wanted to watch something that the reviews said was trash I wasn't going to judge you." The movie? Sure, but not Prissy's right to like garbage. She just hoped that her friend would have better taste in garbage.

Of course, if Prissy was worried about being caught in that movie she was risking it even more by hovering around outside of the theater having this discussion. She snatched her friend by the arm, dragging her over to another theater with a movie that hadn't started all that long ago. Sing. She'd heard good things about that one, at least.

She allowed herself to be pulled into the adjacent dark theater - she didn't catch the title as they snuck, something about string or spring or something. The movie had already started, little animated animals bouncing across the screen, some koala yabbering on about a contest.

Following behind the other girl, Prissy took a seat next to KittyKat's choice. This theater wasn't nearly as full as the other one - guess cartoon creatures weren't as much of a hit as scandalous sex movies were on Valentine's Day. Despite having anything to munch on, Prissy found herself enjoying the new choice of films... even if it was a tad childish for a woman of her newly awarded age.

Without glancing over to her companion, one hand went out and nudged her friend's arm. It might have been a silent gesture of acceptance, it might have been a jab to annoy her or it might even have been a silent attempt at a poor thank you. Either way, KittyKat's quick thinking managed to salvage the evening and put a smile on the birthday girl's face.
