Louisa paced around in her small room like a caged tiger, making audible bumps and thumps on the solid floor that she didn't know or care would sound from below. The room was dark, with no sign of any lamps or candles, but every so often she would let out an agitated puff of flame that would flicker briefly and cast meager shadows across the featureless walls. The room was sparsely decorated, with a few books placed carelessly in one corner, a mat with various small trinkets that scattered beneath the agitated chimera's feet as she paced, a pile of first aid kits in another corner that showed more care than the books had, a tray with dirty dishes, and a lumpy bed with no backboard, pushed a small ways into the wall itself via a shallow cave-like hole.
As she walked, she muttered to herself, occasionally wringing her sheathed hands inside of her jacket and paying no mind when the ends dragged along the floor. "Crazy.....why do they say it's crazy to be careful? Why won't they let me be careful?? Do they WANT me to mess up here? Do they want to be rid of me? I never ask for much, I try not to.....it's not fair......" A sudden small sound on the other side of the trapdoor that served as the only entrance into her room caused her to jump, the fluff on the tip of her powerful tail floofing out like a vespercat's. Even more like the familiar, she found herself crouching down, wings spread out wide and eyes like saucers. "Who......who's there??"((You can choose whether or not this ends up being Aiday; if not it'll still give Louisa cause to venture out her way. XD))

Aiday was holding her case with her stand and telescope heading up to the roof, when she heard something someone talking near by. "Umm well it's not crazy to be safe." She said softly looking in on the strange looking chimera. She was pretty sure she would end up scaring the already jumpy chimera. "I highly doubt anyone is trying to do away with you, the school cares about all their students right??" Aiday said softly. "My name is Aiday I'm a dryad." She answered the who was there question posed in her direction. She felt a bit odd talking to someone like this so Aiday stepped to where the chimera could see her too. "Sorry if I frightened you, I was just heading to the roof to study the stars."

Louisa looked at the newcomer with wide eyes, as though her room was being visited by an angry bear instead of a curious student. The quiet voice helped take some of the floof from her tail, but she didn't relax her cat-like stance. "If they cared, they WOULD do away with me. I'm dangerous. Even when I'm careful. They don't SEE anything; they never do. They might as well not have any eyes!"
She blinked just then and took a tentative step forward, the long sleeve of her jacket trailing along the ground. "Dryad.......oh I remember; tree folk. I like trees, yes I do." She mumbled to herself placidly. "I think that I shall never see, a poem as lovely as a tree......" She blinked again and looked at Aiday with a truly puzzled and slightly melancholy look. "I'm sorry. I'm also Louisa; nice to meet you Aiday."
At the mention of the roof, she broke into a wide grin, which looked rather unsettling beneath her mop of strangely colored hair. "I know a way to the roof! Lots of stars and....and roof!" She stood up fully, her wings spreading out even wider. "I'll show you!"

Aiday blinked and then asked "What makes you think your dangerous?? What don't they see??" She asked in a soft tone. Aiday nodded and said "Yes I'm a dryad I'm one of the tree people, and your a chimera right??" Aiday smiled "It's nice to meet you too, perhaps you'd like to come to the roof with me?? No one around but wide open stars to look at, that are very lovely." Aiday said softly "I was afraid when I was a freshling, hiding under tables and in my dorm room for fear of this new place I knew nothing about." Aiday smiled brightly "Oh well then show me the way.." Aiday said in a cheerful tone.

Louisa took a deep breath, not of exasperation, but in a way which heralded someone about to say a whole lot in a little time. "I'm dangerous because I'm big and strong but I'm also really easy to control if anyone wanted to and I know they do because I KNOW I'm not like this so I must be being controlled sometimes by something and if they saw anything they'd all know that! But they don't, and so they don't." In spite of this stream of nonsense, Louisa was showing visible signs of calming; her voice was growing quieter to match, the poof had left her tail, and her wings were starting to droop back down.
Louisa nodded and looked around the room, as though expecting to see someone lurking in the shadows, perhaps behind her books or beneath her bed. "Yes, the roof would be better. Nobody ever goes there, and sometimes I practice flying up there. I'm not the best flyer, 'cause.....y'know....." She waved her arms halfheartedly, her jacket arms flopping. She pondered for a moment as she walked toward Aiday. "I.....think I was always hiding too. My family sent me here, but it's not doing me any good." She walked past her and gestured with one covered arm. "The hole's this way; hope you can climb." She turned back and walked ahead, muttering to herself. "If tree people are trees, do they climb themselves?"

Aiday frowned and then said "Couldn't that be said about any of the races?? Chimeras have great strength. So I don't think your any different then any other chimera right?? Unless you are and I'm just not seeing it." Aiday mused. "There are flying classes you know." She said softly as they headed for the roof together. Aiday didn't think anything of the jacket, after all it looked loose and like it could be taken off at any time. Aiday followed she climbed slowly behind Louisa since she didn't climb very often she wanted to watch her step and footing so she didn't fall. "I'll be alright." Aiday thought about it "I have never climbed another dryad, I suppose some do??"

Louisa blinked as she turned her head to look sideways at Aiday. "Chimeras are strong, but they know how to control their strength. I've never been able to; I hurt myself and other things; if I'm not careful, I'll hurt other people next." Suddenly, she cried out as she stubbed her foot on a corner she had misjudged the turn of since she had been looking sideways. "Ouch!!" She did an almost comical bounce, her jacket sleeves flapping to where she looked like some sort of strange, floppy bird. "Owowowow!" She blinked back tears as she stopped bouncing and lifted up one foot to inspect, though aside from a small smudge of dirt, looked none the worse for wear. "I don't know if that was even me or someone trying to control me. I never know if I'm impressionable or just clumsy. Either way it makes me dangerous."
Louisa shook her head as she continued to walk on ahead up some stairs that looked as though nobody had used them in quite a while. "I don't like taking classes with too many people in them. No telling what might happen, and they don't understand that I'm trying to keep them out of harm's way. They all just laugh at how I act and look. They remind me that I'm.....I'm......" She wanted to finish, but the last word stuck in her throat, and she cleared it loudly as she pressed on, casting quick glances here and there as they went, even though their path didn't branch off anywhere else.
Soon they reached a place that had rubble leading up to a large opening in the ceiling, and in spite of Louisa's professed lack of grace, climbed it as nimbly as a lizard, bandaged tail trailing behind her. "But if you climbed a TREE tree, does it feel like you're climbing someone you know? I don't know much about other races, you see." She climbed through the opening and into a large attic area, where the angled roof had fallen into disrepair. Any items had been long since moved out, so it was quite empty, and a large hole in the side led right out to part of the roof, where one could look out over a good portion of the grounds. Louisa walked out to the roof and turned to smile at Aiday. "Here we go. Lots of roof."

Aiday frowned as they went and asked "Well how are you going to learn to control your strength if your hiding up here? Why not find a chimera to learn from?? There are many around the school." She said softly. "Are you alright?" She asked when Louisa hurt her foot. "I don't think you are either, it's rather dark up here so perhaps you just need to come out into the light and things will be better?" Aiday suggested. She shook her head "I don't think so, you haven't hurt me." Aiday said softly. "That your what?" Aiday asked softly "You seem nice to me, there are many different beings in the Below, different appearances, different hobbies." Aiday said "Since I don't know many dryads I'm not really sure, I was an orphan, my parents decided they did not want an infant after all. So when the Below opened their doors to the daydreams I was sent to the orphanage in the Below where I grew up. I have only really spoken to one other dryad. I do not remember who my original parents were." Aiday followed Louisa up to the roof and set up her telescope and started looking at the stars. "Beautiful. Would you like to take a look?"

Louisa felt the hairs on her tail bristle at the mere mention of other chimeras. "I don't know anyone, not even chimeras. All the chimeras I know were the ones who agreed to send me here, and they're all far, far away where I can't reach them." She wasn't even sure if she wanted to reach them anyway; if they had wanted her around, they would have found another way than to send her off to where she didn't know anyone and she would always be afraid. She let Aiday's query linger in the air, unanswered. She didn't want to say it or even think it, that she was......broken? Incomplete? Or was she right all along and she was the only one in the entire world who could truly see? Either way, she was different, and as her family saw it, not in a way to be proud of.
She tilted her head to one side and listened in surprise to Aiday's story. "That's so sad....... my parents have no patience for me, but at least they still want me.....I think. I hope. But I do remember them." She suddenly bristled, so much so that even her wild hair stuck up more than it seemed possible. "Well, who needs them anyway? They're all blind to everything around them, and they pick on those of us who see what they can't or won't. We can get along just fine without them!" She huffed again, but already the fluff was going out of her hair and tail, and her determined frown was being replaced by that familiar, misdirected fright.
Louisa crept over to the edge of the roof on all fours and looked down at the ground far below, peeking over the edge in a rather comical fashion, like a kid looking over a fence that wasn't quite short enough. Her head shot back up at Aiday's question and she straightened up to walk toward her and her telescope. "I know these......they say sometimes you can see creatures from the sky in them. Have you ever seen any?" She carefully leaned in to peer through the lens without actually touching it to her face, and she drew her breath in sharply. "..........woooooow."

Aiday frowned as she listened to Louisa wondering if she meant here as in the school or here as in alone hiding away like this. Aiday sighed, it seemed one meeting wouldn't magically get Lousia to come and join the rest of the students. Perhaps Aiday would visit on another day gain Louisa's trust and then perhaps she would be willing to come down for classes. Aiday understood more than most since she had been so afraid herself when she had arrived in the Below. Aiday shrugged "There were other freshlings there and then I was given the chance to studying at the academy so it has worked out so far." Aiday laughed softly "Yes we will get along fine without them, though making new friends is nice, I have a friend who is a naga." She smiled softly. Aiday smiled again and said "I have seen some chimeras flying, once in a while I will see a fallen flying by. Fey hardly ever since they are not strong flyers. I have not seen any other creatures in the sky. " She was happy that Louisa liked the view of the stars Aiday loved them more than anything in the world.

Louisa couldn't help but look out of the corner of one eye in admiration at Aiday. To just jump into all of this and persevere in spite of having literally no one to help her....the caretakers didn't quite count; their job was to help all of the freshlings. It made a difference when someone actually took an interest in one's life. As far as she was concerned, the only interest her family would take in hers was if she found herself getting better. But did she really want to? Could one really get better from something if you didn't really consider it an illness? Sure, she had used words like 'broken' and 'incomplete', but that only served to paint a small picture for those who didn't understand. She could see what others couldn't, and it somehow translated as an ailment to everyone else. Well, at least her new friend seemed to take her more seriously.
"I've never met any nagas, or fallen, or fey. I bet they're all nice, but there's really no way to tell right away. It's a brave thing you do, making friends without knowing what they could really be like." Louisa pulled away from the telescope and looked at Aiday with a shy expression that looked more at home on a freshling on their first day than a half-grown chimera. "You can come here again, if you like......I can always show you the way if you forget. Maybe.....we can see more then."

Aiday shook her head "I'm not brave I'm afraid of many things." She nodded and said. "I will come to visit you again." She said softly and gathered her things waving goodbye to Louisa. Aiday then headed back downstairs to her dorm room since it was already rather late.
