Daiah was returning to the village circle after spending hours training with her master. She was exhausted and ready to be done for the day.

She knew that if she was to be a warrior like her mother one day that she would have to suffer for it. Sighing, Daiah occasionally wondered if life as a sage would be preferable to her chosen path, but she knew that in the long run she would be dissatisfied with her choice.

Coming to the end of the path, she emerged from the wall of trees that surrounded the clearing where everyone was going on about their day. Walking out into the light, she looked around to see if any of her siblings were around for her to harass and potentially cause trouble with.

Despite not being a Healer in the eyes of the pride, just yet, Kivuli was far from busy. He was content to go seek out the guidance of the Healers of the pride. He was happy to report that they had given him the time of day and felt especially close to Zambarau, the purple and grey lion that had joined as a rogue. Whether the closeness was due to gender or the fact that when he tried to speak to Fianna, he suddenly felt as foolish as a cub, was anyone's guess.

Still, he wanted to succeed as a Healer and Zambarau had agreed to teach him the ways of one, so he was immensely pleased with his choice of path. He was also immensely pleased that many of his siblings were taking the path of a healer. Kailasa was also training down this path, though he suspected that she may not have as much difficulty with Fianna as he did... Heh, oops. Then there was his brother Giza, but Kivuli hadn't seen him around lately... He would have to remedy this at once.

The only problem with having three out of five of your siblings (including yourself) all want to strive towards being a Healer, was the fact that he had more competition. It was friendly, of course, especially with Kailasa, since everyone knew you had to tiptoe around the females of the pride (though he'd never actually let anyone catch him saying that, goodness knew) yet he still wanted to make sure that he would be the best of the lot. He put every moment of his time to be beside Zambarau, or when his mentor wasn't available, Fianna. In fact, that was what he had been up to today and had only just left from an exhausting memorization trick that his mentor had been trying to teach him for the various ailments a lion could possess. Kivuli wasn't sure which one gave him a bigger stomach ache, the thought that there were so many things that could go wrong inside a feline, or the thought of memorizing it all.

He was dragging himself towards a nice shaded area to take a nap, when he spotted a familiar face not too far away. His ears perked and he regained some of his lost energy.

"Daiah!" He called to his sister with a smile as he approached her. "You look nearly as exhausted as I feel. Hard session today? Tell me all about it." He knew he wasn't supposed to want to become a Warrior, since he was born without the right parts for it, but since the pride placed so much prestige in the female-only role, he couldn't help, but be a little envious of the sisters that got to train with the Warriors and Sages. Listening to them talk about it was one of his favorite things to do in his off time.

"Kivuli!," she exclaimed as she turned to the sound of her name. She met her brother halfway with a cheerful bound despite her fatigue and greeted him with a brief nuzzle. It was refreshing to see the friendly face of one of her brothers after today's training. Her master Naledi was becoming tougher on her and the girls in her age group now that they had grown from being small cubs.

"Master says that her expectations of us have risen now that we're older," she replied with a deep sigh and proceeded to flop onto the ground dramatically. "She had us going over basic forms all day today, said we needed to improve our movement before going any further. I swear she was trying to kill us! I thought the girl next to me was going to pass out."

"It was all "do it again, again!" all day," Daiah spoke in a mocking tone, feeling a little annoyed at the treatment her training group was subjected to that day. "How has your day been?"

Kivuli smiled sympathetically at his sister as she went on about how her own training had been so physically exhausting. Okay, maybe he was happy to be training to become a healer after all, he thought a little smugly. He offered her a shoulder to lean on as she went on and then inquired.

"Who's your master again?" He paused and then went on. "Well, anyway, I'm sure she's not trying to kill you. Being a Warrior is bound to be tough, that's why only you ladies are allowed to be 'em." He gave her a nudge and smiled.

This smile wavered when he was asked about his own day and he let out a long sigh.
"Similarly exhausting." He replied. "Zambarau had be memorizing allll the different afflictions a lion could possess. From infections to disease, broken bones to stillborns, I know need to know them all!" He heaved another sigh and lay his head on his paws. "It looks like we both have a lot of hard work ahead of us. Do you think we'll ever survive to adulthood?" He asked, but he was smiling again, meaning it as a joke.

"Master Naledi, she basically lives at the training grounds but I'm sure you've seen her glowering around the pride," she exaggerated, recalling the serious lioness and her judgmental gaze.

Somewhere in her mind, Daiah knew that Naledi was like this in order to raise her and the other young girls to be strong and powerful warriors of the future. However, at the moment it only seemed like a scary monster was trying to kill them all.

"Yeah, it is tough, but somebody's gotta protect you guys when those wild rouge lionesses come for you," she teased her brother nudging him.

"That sounds interesting, is your brain as tired as my muscles? When I finally collapse of exhaustion, I'll make sure to come and find you." Daiah knew nothing about the things her brother was mentioning, it all sounded cool and mysterious to her.

"Of course we'll survive!," she replied with her usual gung-ho attitude," we'll be the best adults around! Everyone will talk about how awesome we are."

Kivuli grinned at what his sister had to say about her Master and thinking back, he did recall the tan lioness with dark spots under her eyes. She had always looked strict and he found that his envy for his sister was gone in that moment. Maybe his training wasn't as hard as he thought. At the very least, there wasn't as much physical training involved...yet.

"If she did not always look so stern." He remarked softly to his sister, as though the Master lioness may appear behind them at any moment, "I suspect she would be considered a beauty. Though, I tend to prefer females who know how to smile." He said and nudged his sister back, showing that he was just teasing.

"I reckon it likely is, though I have to admit that I am learning." He closed his eyes and recited, "To be rid of ticks, a dabbing of rodent bile," He wrinkled his nose at the memory and smell, "Shall easily convince them to release your coat. "Cobwebs, while sticky, will stop blood flow more easily then any leaf." He opened his eyes and sighed, "And then there's about a thousand different plants to memorize about how to prepare them, whether we chew them or slice them or whatever, and how to apply them-because some can be put anywhere, some go on the flank, but not the eyes...And don't even get me started on what they're used for!" He let out another sigh, much longer than the first.

"It sounds like we're both having a time of it, but you're right of course. You'll become a legendary warrior and I'll become a healer that'll outlive you all." He laughed. "They'll be stories of our individual heroics told for generations!"

The young lioness grinned toothily as if to prove that she was more than capable of smiling.

"I hope that I can be a strong warrior and still be myself," she confided thoughtfully, "Sometimes the other students make fun of me and say that someone like me couldn't be taken seriously as a warrior. Mama said that the best thing that we could possibly be was ourselves, but sometimes I still wonder if I'm not serious enough."

Her bubbly and loving nature was who she was at heart. To give up that part of herself would mean to change what it meant to be her.

"You probably will outlive us all with all of that gross sounding stuff! You'll be the healthiest old man around. How come medicine always has to be gross and bad tasting? Is that some kind of rule? The worse something is the better it is for you?"

Kivuli's expression became a mix between sympathetic to his sister's desire and secretive. Understanding that this wasn't something she might share with just anyone, he glanced around the clearing to make sure no one was interested in their conversation or eavesdropping. They weren't. So, he turned his attention back to his sister and offered her a comforting purr.

"I'm sure you'll be able to do both." He said, trying his best to be encouraging. "Maybe... Maybe you can be yourself when you're at the camp, with the rest of us. That way, you can have someplace where you can be at ease, even when you have to be professional and do scary things out when you're working as a Warrior." He suggested, ears perked. It made sense in his mind, but he realized that some things were easier said than done. "Anyway, I know you'll figure it out. You've totally got this." He went on with a smile.

When she went back to his fated path, he laughed.
"I actually have a theory about that. What's good for us is meat, you know? Like the stuff the providers bring in from their hunts. Medicine, while others say it's good for us, isn't actually. It only prevents us from dying for a little while. I know, I know, it's morbid to think about, but what about this: What if we're actually... How do I put this, what if the gods made medicine and death similar, because they're both bad things in different ways? Taste and, well, it's death so obviously that's bad. It just... I don't know, it's complicated to explain." He was starting to feel embarrassed and draped a paw over his muzzle dramatically. "Maybe all the smelly leaves are messing with my head. Or maybe I should just stick to learning about medicine, not theorizing about it." He smiled from under his paw and then removed it.

"So, what're you up to next? Gonna take a nap after all that hard work?" He glanced across the clearing. "Or do you want to go look at meal options with me from the Providers most recent hunt? We're both growing lions, I think we deserve being able to choose for ourselves at this point." He mused.
