Lorne would receive a text one day, one that made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Text to Lorne Benoit:

fkkk----------------------4q

Approximately five minutes later, another text arrived, this one more sensible:

Quote:
Text to Lorne Benoit:

So sorry. Would you mind coming ov

Another text followed this one:

Quote:
Text to Lorne Benoit:

er I'm having difficulties with this

And another:

Text to Lorne Benoit:

contraption yes thank you

Lorne had been studying. If you can call taking a break from Shakespeare to tend to the plant on his desk from watering to all but polishing the pot with tissue 'studying', anyway. Then his phone suddenly went off and (quietly relieved for another distraction - as much as he loved reading, this was for studying and even he needed breaks here and there) Lorne fumbled with it for a minute before opening up his texts, one of the things he was actually capable of doing with technology.

Fritz. Okay, it was from Fritz, but... Lorne tilted his head to a side, furrowing his brow and blinking. Was that code or something? Or maybe Fritz sat on his phone? Or...? He knew that drunk texts were a thing, but somehow he suspected that Fritz wouldn't be super likely to send him one of those. It almost looked like a word that might have been profane, which seemed even less likely, especially followed by a string of hugs and kisses. So... ?

He was torn between answering in a string of question marks and calling Nadia to make sure it absolutely wasn't a new net code he was out of the loop on (and Lorne didn't want to look like he didn't know what was going on) when the second message came.

Thankfully, yes, it seemed it was not a code, nor an emergency, nor an accident, but an invitation. Invitations were good. He liked invitations. But had Fritz meant to invite him over? No, he definitely had, right?

Okay, he could do this. Very, very carefully and deliberately, he composed a message to send back:

kuropeco
Text to Fritz:

come over? ok yes of course! should i bring anything?

It took some time, but thankfully, texting was one of the tech type things he was actually capable of doing - and probably more because sheer phobia of talking to someone on the phone narrowly managed to override his sheer incompetence when it came to anything electronic.

From somewhere inside of Fritz's loft there was a crash, followed by a series of beeping noises that were probably a little similar to a fire alarm, and then silence.

A text came to Lorne several minutes later:

Text to Lorne:

food maybe some

Text to Lorne:

food or snacks

Eventually Fritz's address made its way to Lorne's phone, amongst a series of numbers and letters that might take a few minutes to decipher.

Message received loud and clear. Well, okay, neither of those exactly because a text message was neither loud nor clear, but you get the idea. Lorne gave a bright smile as he clapped his book shut and set to work meticulously composing his long and eloquent response of:

kuropeco
Text to Fritz:

be there in 20

With that said and done, he set about throwing whatever he might need into a small bag - wallet and phone and a book because of course a book just in case - and he was off. It wouldn't be far, and he stopped at a grocery store along the way to pick up a few snacks - and drinks, because why not, he wanted to be a good guest and all - like Oreos (Colin had these a lot and Lorne had grown accustomed to them) and chips and hummus, and he ended up grabbing a couple of gyros from a place he'd heard good things about along the way.

It was a little closer to 25 minutes by the time he reached Fritz's door, but there he was with bags in hand, knocking eagerly.

The door was flung open without ceremony almost before Lorne had finished knocking.

"Hey!" said Fritz breathlessly, looking slightly flushed and apparently out of breath. There was a cord hanging around his shoulders that looked like it belonged to some sort of electronic device, and a series of tape pieces on one hand, of the Scotch Tape variety. "Lorne, welcome."

He stepped aside to let Lorne in, glancing at the bags. "What's that?"

Fritz's normally immaculately, obsessively clean loft was still obsessively clean, save for the living room, which looked like a veritable bomb had gone off. There was a brand new television screen - or at least, the box of one - sitting leaning against the wall, and a series of cords, remotes, batteries, and other such nonsense were lying in a heap on the ground, scattered everywhere.

"Er - " said Fritz, as he closed the door behind Lorne, putting his hands on his hips. He was trying very hard not to think too much about the mess in front of him.

"I, er...see, Rhys got me a new telly and I'm not...entirely sure how to put it together, he didn't give me any instructions, so I figured..."

He waved a hand vaguely.

"I could really use some help, if you don't mind."

Lorne gave a soft squeak of surprise when the door opened so fast, but it was probably for the best anyway, and he was happy to see Fritz, really. Although he had to wonder why it looked vaguely like Fritz had lost a battle with a grandmother's junk drawer. "Good afternoon! Oh, this - "

He held up the bags, a bit sheepish now, wondering if he'd gone overboard. "Lunch and snacks and drinks. I wasn't entirely sure what you'd like that isn't tea, so I got a few things, and I've heard these gyros are supposed to be phenomenal - not that I eat many gyros, but - " He gave kind of a helpless shrug and a sheepish smile. "I-I'm trying to branch out a bit. If y-you're not much for it, though, I have no problem getting something else."

His face was red. Oh god.

Although...

It took him a moment to take in the scene before him, and a moment longer to process what it actually was, and that was only with Fritz's explanation. "Oh. Ooooh, " he started, stepping closer and then back, easing the bags down onto the kitchen table and fixing the redhead with an almost comical wide-eyed look.

"P-pardon me, Fritz, but uhm... just what sort of help are you in need of, emotional or technical?" Yes, Lorne knew exactly what Fritz was asking, but he held up his hand with his knight ring sitting proudly on his finger and, "Because if it's the latter... u-uhm... remember that time I kind of deleted the database? N-not that I wouldn't try, but... a-are you sure?"

Lorne was an easygoing, if not slightly anxious fellow. Fritz had found him amicable on their first meeting, and even now, all this time later, he still found Lorne very easy to be around and - surprisingly - perhaps a little similar to himself, which was maybe why they got along as well as they did.

Or maybe Fritz was just grasping at straws.

"Gyros sound delicious," said Fritz, with a distracted nod, then reached up and tugged the coat from Lorne's arms, tossing it over the back of a kitchen chair. "And I do eat other things than tea, though admittedly that is my preferred drink of choice. Here - "

He all but steered Lorne back into the living room with hands barely touching the backs of Lorne's shoulders, dropping them in an instant once they'd reached the heap of things piled on the ground. Fritz gestured to everything that was laid out, then plopped himself onto the ground, patting the floor to indicate Lorne should join him.

"Er, both," he said brightly. "I mean, I suppose more of the former than the latter? I'm sure putting this together can't be that bad, even though I told Rhys I didn't need a new telly, but he went against it anyway, the swine. Oh, I suppose this cord goes to something..?"

He held up something that looked vaguely important, looking at Lorne expectantly.

Lorne kind of protested when Fritz went to the trouble of taking his coat, muttering something about how he didn't have to trouble himself, but then the coat was easily draped over a chair and more or less forgotten as the dark haired man gave a quick thanks with a splash of color in his cheeks. He was more than easy to coerce in the right direction, eager to try and help, even if... well... yeah.

"Okay. W-we can do this."

He plopped down onto the floor cross-legged and kind of stared at the part like it might come alive and and bite his hand. "So this... surely it does go to... something... or... " His brow furrowed as he kind of poked it. "Did this come with directions? - isn't this the thing that goes into the power thing? You know, the uhm, the... " He pointed vaguely at the wall. "... wait, though, what does the other end look like?"

It was too late for Lorne to protest; Fritz was already back in the living room, sitting beside the heap of electronic things and looking at everything as though they were some sort of tentacled monster rising from the depths and about to attack them all.

Lorne's expression wasn't very far off from his own. Fritz snapped his fingers together.

"Directions! Yes, of course."

He glanced around the room, then finally found the little booklet half tucked underneath a pile of screws and screwdriver like devices, tugging it out and holding it up triumphantly. Fritz flipped through it, bypassing the instructions in various languages until he found the ones in English.

"Here!" he said, thrusting it towards Lorne. "I, er, think that's right, yes. As for the end of the cord, erm..."

Fritz rummaged in the pile, squinting.

"This...?"

It was a question, not an answer. Fritz was holding the end of a cord, except the end of it looked like it had weird prongs.

"What on earth is this?"

Okay good. Directions in English! Lorne gladly accepted the paper and began trying to skim it, his yellow eyes narrowed intently as he looked it over intently. "Okay, so..." he drew in a breath and looked from the paper to the mess of wires and then back again, his lip slowly pressing into a thin, thin line and the depths of his eyes getting progressively more frantic.

"Uhm. Okay. So. As far as I can tell from these directions, " he started with a furrowed brow and a deep breath, tracing the words and pictures slowly with his fingertips. Then he nodded. And, "These are not the right directions. I mean, surely they are, but they're, uhm, n-not, " and he reached out and fiddled with one of the wires, kind of trying looking at the ends and trying to compare it to the diagrams. "O-or else they gave you the wrong machine? Or - really, what on earth is that, " he breathed out, dropping the wire again and kind of scratching his head. "Oh dear..."

Then he tried switching to French, for all the good that did him. "Well, I-I mean, there's only so many holes, so... if we keep trying to put t-them into things, maybe it'll work out?" he offered, his cheeks a deep shade of crimson. This really shouldn't be so hard.

Fritz had picked up some sort of plastic-y bit that looked like it could possibly be important, but the expression on his face was one of bewildered intent, because he had no idea whether or not it was important. He held it next to the cord in his other hand, wondering if they possibly went together.

"They're not?" His head had lifted at Lorne's confused tone of voice, Fritz peering over at him. "But those were the papers that came with the box. I mean, I pulled them out of the box. I assume they're from the box, they were taped along the inside."

Fritz eyed the things in his hands again.

"Here," he said, after a moment's decision. "You take this, I'll take this - " He indicated the plastic-y thingy. "I think this goes into here - " He held up another gadget that was possibly related, something with a lot of ends to it. " - and maybe if we put them all together, we can get the telly working."

He beamed over at Lorne. "Maybe?" added Fritz hopefully. "I should like to be able to do this on my own, after all."
