There were few times that Lucent actually went to the capital of the Light Tribe. He was there with his family once, when he and his siblings were cubs, but once they had all grown up, they hadn't ever really come back, or at the very least, Lucent hadn't. He tried his best to keep tabs on the rest of his family, like his mother, who was always working away in the Amber District, or his father, who was never far behind her. He was probably closest to his brother, Florizel, for his sisters didn't choose a profession that kept them very close. He had heard rumors, a while ago, that Hesperia had been thinking about joining the Onyx District, but he had no idea if that fell through.

Reminiscing was not Lucent's strong suit. His strengths lay in the District of Strength: Ruby. Like his father, he was a strong B'alam and like his mother, he was a crafter by nature so the natural choice was to become a blacksmith for the Ruby District. He worked long hours and would often sink into his work for days at a time without notice of ever stopping to take a break. He was every bit the hardworking citizen who wanted to help his community and if that meant working more than he played, that was fine with him.

So, why was he out of his workshop and in the Prism District? For a simple (if embarrassing enough reason) he had just come from one of the healer's stations. Since all of the healers were usually sent here, so went he. He had burned one of his paws in a bit of absent-mindedness (which the healer attributed to his not getting enough sleep, of course) and when the paw hurt too badly to get any further work done, he limped out of his workshop and went off to the capital.

Now he was finished and still had to hobble along. He was given a prescription of going to lay in the light of the sun alongside the crystal tree and to stay out of his workshop for a day and a half while his paw healed. He was given the option of a sling for his paw, but Lucent had no intention of looking sillier than he felt. He would have to tell his superior why he was behind, he had said, but the healer was adamant and so off towards the tree he went, grumbling a little as he went. Not go into his workshop for a day and a half? What sort of unjust punishment was that?

He was so busy trying to think up loopholes and watching the ground that he didn't see the female he was about to crash headlong into and so found himself suddenly tripping over an extra set of paws and tails until he found himself splayed out on the ground and nearly touching noses with another. His eyes widened in surprise and he scrambled to get off of her, rolling over awkwardly and looking rather alarmed and uncomfortable.

"A-Are you alright?" He asked, before lurching forward a little, his paw giving out. Was he alright? Weaver, if he had to go back to that healer and receive more days out of his workshop, he would go nuts! Oh, right, the other b'alam. "Sorry about that. I really ought to watch where I'm going..."

By the way the female was acting, one could have suspected that it had been merely a bump on the shoulder, rather than the crash it had been. He wasn't sure what to make of her reaction, in fact she seemed rather blase about the whole affair. Well, if she was going to be mature (albeit a bit distant) about it, then so could he.

"A-Ah, yes. I've just come from the healers and their... recommendation for health has left me a bit, as you put, distracted." He said, his ears flicking forward and his tail moving a great deal, his antsy-ness showing through. The only females he really spoke to where his mother and sisters. Aside from the occasional commission he received from a female b'alam for a bracelet trinket of some sort, he usually had nothing to do with them. He didn't know many females from the Ruby District, he realized, though surely there must be some, right?

His thoughts were starting to wander, so he tried again.
"Are you certain you're alright, Miss? I'd loathe to walk away without seeing you've gotten proper care." Great Weaver, now he was starting to sound like Florizel. Good grief.

Lucent wasn't very good at reading people: it's one of the reasons he went to the Ruby District, rather than the Sapphire District. He valued loyalty, but he wasn't meant to be an ambassador-type. No, his talents lay in crafting armor, not training to be a diplomat. That said, even he could feel the awkward tension in the air. It may not have been derived from actual anger, but the tension was still present and it was more than a little off-putting. He would never again take his mother and brother for granted, what with their way with words. They made it sound so easy!

"Oh, this?" He held up his injured paw and turned it over a little to show her the blisters from the burns on it, which were shiny thanks to the salve that had been previously applied and since dried at the healers. "I got this while working. I'm up in the Ruby District. I'm a blacksmith up there, but I guess I must've fallen asleep at my station-which I never do, by the way," he lied, "But it happened earlier today and now I must," He coughed, straightened and mimicked the higher pitch of the healer he had seen. "Head straight to the crystal tree and lay beneath it until you are yourself again. Bah." He dropped the act. ""It's just a burn, it's not gonna kill me."

He waved the paw around as though to test that he was right and the healer was wrong and then he placed it firmly on the ground, only for the fur along his neck and back to raise on end at the sudden pain. Blinking to keep his eyes from tearing up, he tried to smile confidently at the other b'alam.

"Thank you for being so kind as to ask, Miss...?"

Lucent felt his ears turn backwards at her comment about the conversation and the direction it was heading. She didn't have to be so blunt about it, he thought and sniffed indignantly. Why, she could have just walked off and bid him farewell, but pointing it out, well, it felt as though she were calling him incompetent to his face. Which she very likely may have been.

"I've never been a strong conversationalist." He replied and was about to say goodbye right then and there, when she went on to giving her name. "Novalite, hm? Lovely enough name, I suppose. I am Lucent." He said, nodding his head by way of bowing, before he ended with a sigh. "You'll have to forgive me if I'm in a mood. My brother is much more situated to dealing with others, considering it is what he does for his work. Whereas I have chosen the solitary life among the fire's glow. I'm a smith, you see." What was he babbling on about now? Great Weaver, she probably didn't care to know any of that. He repressed another sigh and turned his gaze to the road briefly, before turning his gaze back to Novalite, trying again at a conversation starter.

"Erm... What is it that you do, Novalite?"
