Aten was panting heavily. The rise of the children who had become infected had been like a scene straight out of a horror movie. Ava had thrown him in to keep the freshlings safe, and of course he would, but Aten couldn't keep his mind from wandering.
His son was on the other side with all those things! Raa was in immediate danger, but with the room sealed, there was nothing he could do.
Steeling himself, Aten slowly turned to face the room filled with eyes peering up at him. Some of the faces were completely horror struck, some were red and puffy-eyed from crying, and some, much to Aten's great dismay, looked entirely shattered; lost; broken. What was becoming of his beloved Academy? What would happen to all these children?
Aten needed to be a strong leader. He needed to keep himself together for the sake of the children. They needed him. Aten could not allow himself to think about Raa--or any of his other children who were missing from the room--as much as his heart ached, as much as he felt completely useless.
"Alright." Aten spoke to himself, closing his eyes softly as he nodded his head. When his aqua eyes reopened, there was no trace of her previous fear. He was resolute as he addressed the crowd of freshlings. "We'll be safe here, children. Do not fear ... let us craft and play some games to pass the time, shall we? Why don't we take a look at some supplies stashed here and see what we can do, hmmn?"
What to do:
To pass the time, Aten is going to sit down and teach the kids how to sew! There's lot of scrap pieces of fabric around! He'll also help those who'd prefer to not risk working with needles make their own lockets!
You can pick one of the lines below and colour a plushie or locket to keep or give away! You can colour as many as you like and give them to as many people as you wish!
You may also roll 1 10-sided dye per character each day for the remainder of The Secret Room. Keep track of your score! Person with the highest score will get a special something at the end!

Lawven shook her head at Roshan's question. There was no way that the badguys could have hurt her, they weren't IN the bunker after all! And Ava was there. Ava was the strongest, most powerful. Nothing could get in. "Don't be silly. Of course not. Unless... Were you?"
They were in the room, in the bunker, when the screams started. Lawven puffed out immediately, tails traight out and eyes wide. What was that? What the happening!? She saw a flash of Miss Ava, and then Aten was being pushed into the room by her. "Miss Ava!"
But the door was sealed. Muffled sounds of a struggle thumped against the thick wall, like music from far far away. Then it was quiet. Eerily quiet, except for the sniffles and broken sobs of some freshlings. Lawven wished she could cry. Really, it would make everything so much better. But the Bakeneko was numb, and tired.
Their new caretaker suggested they make some toys, so Lawven sullenly pulled Roshan to the pile and sat down. She seemed unfocus, gathering random scraps of fabric. Each was examined before being tossed back into the pile, though the ones that were kept had no real rhyme or reason. It was just... Something to do. To keep her occupied for a short period.

xRoshan shook their head. "No, I'm fine. I just wanted to make sure you weren't in any pain... or were going to be." They felt themselves relax now that they knew at least one of their friends was okay. There was a thought in the back of their mind about where Yuta could be, but they figured they had to stumble across him again soon. Then there was a ruckus coming from the other room, the one they had just left. Roshan's eyes darted to the doorway just in time to see it close. Hearing Lawven call out for Ms. Ava was heartbreaking. Roshan wasn't sure what to say... They were jolted out of their head by Lawven dragging them toward the pile of scrap fabrics that had been found. They saw Lawven going through the fabrics, but she seemed to be doing it without really thinking. And still Roshan was not sure what to say or do so they picked up some fabrics and got to work. After some time, and some failed attempts to speak, Roshan finally asked, "Are you okay?" It was said in a hushed tone as if they were afraid of breaking their friend's concentration or scaring her out of her thoughts. Roshan wasn't even looking at Lawven, but they hoped she knew they were asking her. They were worried and had to start somewhere.

Her fingers gravitated towards flowery materials. Dusky, worn out looks. Vintage. Memories of the swirling sands came back up. Sitting beside her Nanny as the storm of danger slammed against their door, sometimes literally. Lawven had no one but her.
And then she too was gone.
Lawven was sent away, banished to a land of strangers. Races she had never seen. Races that appeared frightful and dangerous. For a solid week, she had stayed locked in her room or in various hiding spots, avoiding everyone, including caretakers. Her loneliness ate at her, but her fear was stronger.
Then there was Miss Anabelle. She was kind and helped to get the Bakeneko intergrated. Lawven learned about the new world, the new technologies. She still hated (often times openly) those who had families, but she was calming down somewhat. Coming into her own as the fear was shed like a winter coat. There was no need to be so secretive in this world. Lawven wasn't some dirty secret here - she was just another Freshling. Miss Anabelle was priceless to Lawven, a much better substitute than her first Maid.
And then she too was gone.
Miss Ava was always... Kind. Stern, but kind. There was no doubt in your mind when the head mistress was angry or disappointed. Ava commanded respect. Lawven liked the demon, and this whole experience pressed upon Lawven just how strong and competent Ava was... And how fragile she was too. Everyone could get sad or hurt. They both missed Miss Anabelle. Lawven did her best to patch the situation, to comfort. That's what the caretaker would want from any of her charges. Just as Lawven was feeling safe, feeling comfort, those monsters awoke.
And then she too was gone.
So no. Lawven was no okay. She wasn't sure what okay was. Her life, up to that point, had been a series of losses and she was growing weary of losing. Lawven's eyes stung, but she refused to cry. Her response to Roshan was just to shake her head. No. Okay was... Okay was not something possible for Lawven.
Her fingers worked quickly, picking up a mishmosh of materials. Sewing was becoming a skill she could use later, after all the plushies she was making. The nezubat turned out cute, much cuter than she had imagined.
"Here. This is.... This is yours."

 Vadim
Vadim snatched the marble from the bakeneko's trembling fingers. He clutched it tight in his fist, regarding the other with plain suspicion as though she would try to take it from him. “It's mine,” he said simply. His voice was cold, devoid of emotion, but the tail that lashed at his feet betrayed his inner turbulence. For a moment he did not break eye contact. Then, slowly opening his fist, he examined the marble. It had not come to any harm.
After tucking the marble into his pocket Vadim returned his gaze to the bakeneko. His eyes swept up and down, examining her with a kind of alien detachment, critical and unfeeling. It was less like he studied her as a person and more like a thing. At last, he met her stare again. “They're all mine,” he implied, too cowardly to accuse her directly.

Lawven waited for Roshan to respond, absentmindedly picking through more piles of fabric and locket parts. Then she saw it. A slightly tarnished gold locket... It had no center, though. Lawven scooped it up and picked around some more, coming across a vibrant blue gem that had been cracked.
Miss Ava...
Carefully the freshling assembled the locket and then slipped it over her neck. She'd give it to the headmistress at a later date.

There was no point in being sad, but Lawven felt... Small. Like a tiny spec in a giant sea. She was incapable of doing much of anything, and instead of crafting, went back to idly picking at fabric and tossing it into a pile. Her mind was more focused on the past. Miss Ava, Miss Anabelle, her Maid. All important figures that just seemed to poof in smoke.
Maybe Miss Anabelle would be fine? Then Lawven could tell her, proudly, just how good she had done. How strong and brave and terrifically kind to others she had been. Wrapping her split tail around her legs, the bakeneko sighed and sat up, gathering materials again that corresponded more or less to a pattern. Something.... Something pretty. Something nice.

She had eaten chips and drank water, so the most basic needs were met, but Lawven couldn't stop the ants that were in her pants. Was it just her or was the room getting, y'know, smaller? Her wiggling got progessively more aggressive until she finally tossed down the handful of material she had gathered in an angry huff.
"Hey! What's your name? Were you hurt? Are you gonna become a monster too?" Lawven pointed accusingly at Aten, eyes narrowed as her tail fwipped fwipped over the floor.

Everyone still seemed shellshocked by the change of events and Lawven really couldn't blame them. But the silence was suffocating her. She needed something to happen!
Sighing, she decided to make another plush, this time offering it to a hallowed child who was nearby. "Hey, uhm... I was bored. It's for you."
Green Minuet Lawven: I-IT'S NOT LIKE I LIKE YOU OR ANYTHING!! that's all I could think of after writing that line. xD

 Vadim
The bakeneko appeared to be at loss for words. “Cat got your tongue?” had never before seemed like such an apt statement. Regardless, Vadim came to the conclusion that she had not stolen the other two marbles. Aside from her incredulous and puzzled expression and gaping jaw, she had no reason to return the one if she did not plan to return the others. The culprit (if there was one) lie somewhere else.
Giving her one last wary look, Vadim tossed his head and stormed away. He had not gone far though before crossing paths with another bakeneko. This one proffered a plush that—bat like features excluded—resembled himself. Vadim regarded it with suspicion, eyes flickering between the plush and the bakeneko. After a moment he reached out to accept it. He moved slowly, as though it might come to life in bite him. His fingers brushed the soft fuzzy body. A second later he clutched it to his chest.
He turned his gaze to the bakeneko, studying her, really seeing her for the first time. “You made this?” he asked. Never mind that Aten stood in plain sight across the room, teaching a pair of freshlings how to sew. Vadim did not believe it.
Magician Arcana AHHHH! It's so cute! I love it (and so does Vadim). I'll have to see if I can convince him to make one in return!

What was with the suspicion? Sure, the first time Lawven had sewn, the plushies had seemed like they wanted to fall apart, but these were somehow easier. Or maybe this time Lawven wasn't willing to let herself be distracted by anything other than the stitches.
Squinting at him, her tail flicked in annoyance, "Yeah! Of course I did! I think it came out good too." Calming down, Lawven sighed and cocked her head, "It's kinda fun to make them. Here, wanna join me and try?"
Green Minuet Ahhh! I'm glad you like it <3

x xRoshan found their hands slower this time as they contemplated their friend. Lawven has simply shaken her head, a non-verbal response that rang loud and clear. It didn't make things any easier on Roshan, though. They weren't used to upsetting situations like this. Lawven handing over the plushie she had made startled Roshan. "Thank you." They took the nezubat and placed it in their lap. Roshan looked at their own project and frowned. They were no where near finished. And they still had no idea how to help Lawven. Roshan's tendrils turned dark as their mood and thoughts as they got back to work. They barely noticed Lawven's actions, even when she shouted at their new caretaker. They were determined to find the right words and to finish this nezubat for her. Magician Arcana Sorry for the delay. Nothing really to reply to here for you, but next post should include a plushie for Lawven and something people can reply to. Rolling for Roshan on Feb 12th. Points: 7 + 4 + 10 = 21
