It was kind of a morbid setting Hermes decided as they walked towards the cemetery. The class had a fieldtrip to one of the ancient ruins nearby and they were supposed to find a partner and find three things of interest. Only Hermes had a bit of a reputation of being well… a smarty pants and so he was kind of sitting there waiting as everyone else paired off. Seriously… this is why you got assigned partners so that when everyone paired off with their friends you didn’t have children feeling unwanted. Not that Hermes was feeling unwanted. Gyaaah the whole thing was stupid. Who needed a trip to the beach?

Alto kind of always found it cool that even if you were in different houses the school didn’t really mind, and they often intermingled the houses whenever they could, like this fieldtrip for instance. It was one of the few classes Alto didn’t have with Cirro, but it was an opportunity to meet other people… or that had been his goal until he noticed Hermes was in this class. Even weirder was that everyone was avoiding Hermes. “Teach! I’d like to be paired up with Hermes” Alto spoke up. It wasn’t exactly his turn but this was getting ridiculous. He could tell Hermes was not happy even if he was trying not to show it.

Hermes blinked when his name was suddenly called out. Wait that voice was actually really familiar. He knew that voice. Since when was Alto in his class? Mind you he was already loads ahead in this class and didn’t always pay attention. However it was such an Alto response and Hermes was actually kind of glad for it even if the class started whispering. He ignored them all and walked over to his… well he supposed friend secretly really pleased.
“Hey Alto, thanks” he whispered in a tiny voice as he stood next to his friend in the paired up group.

“pfft it’s no problem. I would have tried to pick you earlier but I totally didn’t know you were in the class. Then again I just had my classes wiggled around a week ago.” Alto replied. He tended to be a social butterfly while he was in class so on breaks and stuff other kids tended to swarm him. During actual class period, he you know paid attention in class so it kind of made sense he hadn’t seen Hermes first.
“Okay so the assignment says look at three different things so where do you want to start? The cemetery might be a good one although only if you aren’t a medium”

Yeah that was so typically Alto. The two had occasionally been meeting up in the garden in those days where Alto didn’t want to be a social butterfly and Hermes’s roommates were busy with things like getting ready for junior classes. Hermes was actually in the same boat but classes where normally things that came easy to him and he had been prepared and caught up for ages, that and the caretaker noticed he was being unsocial again and forced him out on the field trip.
“The cemetery is a good place to start. People tend to find it creepy and with the ominous weather overhead it’s probably a good time to get the more outdoor stuff out of the way. Ah… you aren’t a medium either?”

“Me… No, though I think it would be cool to one day learn how to be one” Alto stated in a nonchalant way with an accompanying hand wave. Hermes did have a point. The weather was threatening to kind of pour down on them. However it was the only day the class could do the field trip and a little rain never hurt anyone. So here they were. Luckily Alto believed in being prepared. Ah speaking of which he should probably tell Hermes. “And if it does suddenly start raining I am totally prepared,” with that he totally pulled two umbrellas out of his back pack.

Hermes chuckled and started towards the cemetery. The old ruins were kind of cool. They had set it up like towns had been back then as an reenactment and the more stable buildings you could actually go into. Hermes wasn’t really into history. He was definitely more of the science type of guy, but he couldn’t admit to a sense of coolness. They had put a lot of effort into the town. Besides learning a little bit about history when people made it cool was totally fine. It was then they got to the cemetery and Hermes looked at the assignment.
They were to find one of the tombstones and draw the design and write down the information on it. “Well names were certainly different back then. This guy was named Antoponia Fadus”

“See that one wasn’t so bad, you could always just go by a nickname and say that your name was Anto or even Nia. Well maybe not so much if you were a girl. This poor fellow is Publiter Agadros.” Alto stated. “although back then it might have been normal, so maybe our names today would have them shaking their head in amusement. Oh wait that tombstone is pretty cool, what about that one.” When Hermes agreed, Alto totally started jotting down the information and doing rough sketches. It wasn’t the best sketch but the teacher wasn’t grading them on their artistic ability.

“Huh, that’s true” Hermes had to agree. Then again his name was a pretty old one it’s self. When Alto mentioned one of the tombstones, Hermes looked up to see a gothic cross looking one with roses. It was really cool looking. It made him wonder who exactly the man was to earn said tombstone. He was just about to ask if Alto had finished everything they needed when the sky decided it had given the students enough of a reprieve and opened up on them in a downpour. Hermes just started laughing and ran over to where Alto was since he had the umbrellas.

Luckily right before the sky suddenly opened up on them Alto had shut the book and was walking his way back to Hermes. He threw one of his umbrellas to the poor now mostly soaked imp and opened his own. Eventually he too started laughing alongside the imp. Well they hadn’t gotten to all the assignments yet but in the pamphlet there was a café that looked pretty neat. They were here all day and he was sure the rain would let up eventually. While he wasn’t in the same class as Cirro any more he was starting to think this semester it wouldn’t be so bad.
