Hermes truly liked both of his roommates. After all they didn’t talk much… or at all since they were both mute. Normally that was awesome as he could just dive into his projects and things without any nosy interruptions. Still sometimes a person just needed sound... or talking. It was just too silent in the dorm room. So he had escaped into some garden section of the academy. Unfortunately no one was there to bug. Was the universe trying to kill him in silence? How was he supposed to bother someone and get his talking fix? It was then that laughter caught his attention and he looked up to see a Baphomet just chilling in a tree. Maybe it wasn’t as deserted as he thought?

Alto had finished up his homework early and had decided to walk around the campus with one of his skyfish. It was pretty awesome weather with the day being slightly overcast and a nice wet breeze was blowing by. So while his fish swam happily around in the air, Alto escaped into a tree to just well enjoy life. It was here a couple hours later that his little sanctuary suddenly had a new visitor. He had to laugh at the look on the imp’s face. “Now that is a mighty interesting look? What has your tail in knots?” Alto asked. It was peaceful enough that starting up a conversation wouldn’t hurt.

“Finally a person to talk to” Hermes sighed in relief ignoring the sudden startled look on the Baphomet’s face. He looked around the enclosure again, since obviously his first look around had been faulty. Sure enough he had also missed the Skyfish. It was actually pretty cute fish and considering how it affectionately kept floating… swimming? Anyways considering it kept nipping the baphomet’s fingers or their ears he assumed the fish must be the other boy’s companion.
“Ah…” Hermes blushed a bit, which unfortunately due to his coloring clashed a bit. “Well my room mates are the extremely silent type and I was just kind of trying to find someone that looked friendly”. Ugh it was kind of pathetic. It wasn’t like he couldn’t talk to Tayce or Melody through sign language, but they looked busy as well.

Okay that wasn’t exactly what he expected to come out of the Imp’s mouth when Alto asked his question. He almost startled himself bad enough to fall out of the tree. Luckily his dignity survived and he watched as the Imp looked around at the space Alto had been claiming for the last couple of hours. Eventually he got a slightly better question and had to nod in understanding. “Ah I know those feels a bit, my twin is the silent-kick me out of the room for homework type. Well I don’t mind keeping you company for a while” Alto answered and slid down from the tree. “I’m Alto” and with that he offered out his hand.

Hermes had looked away while he was blushing. He had kind of just set himself up to be laughed at of all things, but to his surprise the only thing the other boy did was slid down from the tree and offer his hand. Hermes took it and noted the Baphomet had a strong grip. No, that wasn’t right. Alto had given him his name, although Hermes did have to wonder if his parents had a music inclination or something else when picking it out.
“I’m Hermes” he answered back. “Okay I have to ask. Where the caretakers or parents music inclined or?,” yeah that was a great way to start a conversation Hermes. He almost wanted to facepalm.

“Hahah well I can’t say anyone has ever asked me that question. I actually kind of like music, okay I really like music so having a music name would have been cool. However no, apparently my set of caretakers wanted to be a meteorologist or something because both my twin and I got weather related names.” Alto replied in a whimsical manner.
He was pretty good at reading people, especially if they interested him which Hermes did so when Hermes mentioned caretakers first and then threw in parents as almost an afterthought he wondered if the boy was an orphan or one of those. He supposed Hermes could have also been really unlucky and been a cache baby awoken at the wrong time.
“Hermes: An ancient naming meaning pile of stones or boundry marker. Hmm, thats actually a pretty cool name. Ah sorry I'm a bit of a... I think its call nameologist ”

Hermes’s ears practically perked up as Alto revealed his name was more named after a science term than music. While he liked music, as it was a way to have noise without needing to talk, his true passion was definitely science. Which any one spending any time around his dorm room would find out, some days he had taken to just talking to himself. One might ask why he was still in that room since Tayce and Melody had that shared trait of being mute. It had been suggested that he switch but Hermes had reacted to it with aggression. He liked his roommates. They didn’t sneer at him for being smart and liking science. They didn’t pick on him for being a hallowed. They were really interesting.
And… he was getting off track. Focus. Focus. Wait… Alto knew what his name actually meant. “No. No its fine. I was just startled was all? Its kind cool”

Alto blinked as Hermes suddenly had an absent look on his face. He barely resisted the urge to just wave his hand in front Hermes’s face like they did on crystal vision. Then he had keep from just chuckling, Hermes was seriously one of the more expressive people he had seen. Did the imp know that he sometimes muttered things under his breath? It was seriously entertaining to watch.
Still eventually it seemed like Hermes came back online. “Yeah, history and meanings and such are really interesting to me. I was glad I actually got placed in Eldritch. I know some people who really love science and then ended up in Arkham. Then again we all kind of have the same classes so the houses don’t really matter that much but you know…”he trailed off a bit.

Hermes blushed a bit when he realized the expression on Alto’s face. Yeah he kind had zoned out there but it wasn’t Alto’s fault… really. Still the other Baphomet didn’t really seem to take it personally. It was kind of fun watching him get all worked up over his little speech. “I think I know what you mean. I’m in Enoch and it’s nice that you can run into other science minded people there. Some times it’s even good for swapping ideas and or working on improving new ones”
And that was the start of the conversation. Before Hermes had known it Alto and he had been talking for hours, in fact the tiny bit of light below had during the day was transitioning into full blown nighttime. “Ah well I guess this is where we call it for the day. Thanks for talking with me Alto” sure Hermes could be a jerk but manners were important.

It was a fun sort of day. Alto had made a new friend and Hermes had a lot of interesting ideas. Sure the imp could be a bit sure of himself but Alto had a feeling it would temper out a bit with age. The point was that Hermes wasn’t really that bad of a guy and while it wasn’t what Alto had expected when he took refuge here, he had a lot of fun if he had to admit it. It would definitely make the report when he had dinner with Cirro.
Speaking of which it was getting way darker and his twin would probably start to wonder. “Yeah probably best if I call it too. Still any time you need to get out and talk give me a buzz. It would be fun to talk again. I still have to totally convince you that winter is totally better than summer”. He laughed at Hermes's reply and waved the imp off. Fun day indeed.
