It had been a long time since he had called anywhere home. He had been born in the Motojamii a long time ago, or long enough ago that it was a distant memory but he had never felt disadvantaged because he had been asked to leave. If anything wandering the rogue lands, hopping between prides, had allowed him to make many friends, learn lots of different cultures and find out a million new things, he'd even taken on the mantra 'you learn something new every day' he liked this mantra, he liked it very much.

Today, he hadn't learned anything yet, he was starting to ponder if he would. Shade dappled over his patch work fur, he was comfortable where he lay, but the sun was high and when night came there would be fewer creatures to grant him a spot of knowledge, it made him feel a little fidgety.

"Dooley, sit still." The female jackal that lay next to the massive lion barked quietly at him. She knew he was feeling restless but it was time for rest not a time for wriggling about. She couldn't stand when he felt fidgety during rest time.

"Sorry Wessex." He sighed and licked the top of the pale Jackals head "I'll sit still." Taking a deep breath he settled his massive maned head upon his paws. He would just have to cope with this day, it was, after all, a nice day, he couldn't really complain.

Kaelyn had nowhere to go -- She struggled so hard to try and change the ideas on Huria and her own worth for her entire life in the pride. Now? She was abandoned, even after being told by many how strong and capable she was. Did her father’s infamy bleed into her own life, cursing it from the start? Taking a deep breath, the slightly above average lioness continued her march across the lands, every now and again she would stop and speak with the locals, get a few bits and pieces of knowledge and continue forward.

It was about a week ago at this time that she had ran into a group of Vikings, Stormborn they called themselves. Unsure as to what they were doing, she had just watched them, only to be approached later. They wanted to take her with them and they were not taking no as an answer, unfortunately for them, Kaelyn was more than capable of defending herself. Beating them, one after the other, they decided to spare her, instead telling her to come to their lands. They said they needed lions like her.

She was needed, even after the abandonment of her birth pride. They saw her for who she truly was and wanted her as their own. A smile touched her face as determination and pride swelled inside her. Unfortunately for her, fate had other things planned – for instance, the bites, bruises and damage done to her body that she was ignoring. Yeah, that needed sorted out first.

Taking another step forward, Kaelyn felt her legs wobble, then her vision blur and before she knew it she hit the ground with a heavy flop.

Wessex jumped to her paws and barked at the loud thud it wasn't unusual for her to be startled by loud sounds and she was always a very good alarm system.

Dooley put a massive paw on his friend to calm her down and got to his paws. "Stay there Wessex, I'll check it out." Stalking forwards the massive pale lion let out a low rumbling growl, but as he turned the corner, it stopped immediately "It's a lioness. She seems to be hurt really baddly."

The beige maned male bent down and easily lifted the smaller femal accross his shoulders, he plods back to where he had left Wessex and settles himself in to a comfortable laying position. He carefully let her roll to the ground and started to clean her wounds.

"Dooley, she might not be friendly.. Also she might not appreciate you cleaning her while she's asleep!" The little pale dog barked staying behind her big friend.

"Stop fretting Wessex, she can't hurt us, she couldn't even stand let alone do anything else. She needs our help." He looks back at the little jackal and returns to cleaning what looked like a particularly bad wound to him. He wondered who would to this to another creature?

Soft voices rose over top of the lioness, like ghosts they were so quiet she wasn’t even sure they existed. Her body stung, ached and raged all at the same time while her head pounded with each heartbeat, yet she kept her focus on a singular sensation – warmth. Accompanying the warm was a rough, spike of pain that quickly washed away while the warmth lingered… someone was tending to her wounds!

Brows quivered as eyelids fluttered open, revealing two bright amber colored eyes, eyes that merely fluttered as the light agitated her already pounding head. Deciding it was best just to keep her eyes shut for a while, she focused again on the warmth of the strangers tongue. If she had more strength, Kaelyn definitely would be laying into whomever was touching her, however, as it stood she was rather vulnerable. How much longer did her body need to recover? Would this stranger take advantage or expect something in return for helping her?

Fluttering her eyes open again, she strained to look and see who it was helping her. Looking over her shoulder, she could just make out what looked to be a rather large lion and some sort of white thing. Attempting to strain even more to make out what that white thing was only created more dizziness so she stopped completely.

A lion. How would she work around this?

Dooley felt the smaller lioness moving about and smiled lightly, her eyes seemed to be shut still though he had defiantly briefly glimpsed eyes. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you." He murrs, his voice a gentle rumble. "You passed out so Wessex and I decided to clean your wounds for you." He continued to clean her wounds for another moment. "Who on earth did this to you?" He whispers, unsure if he would get an answer from her, she seemed pretty dazed.

Wessex sighed lightly and hopped over her friend the small jackal padded up to the lionesses face and started to lick her ear. "You went through a ringer lady sit still Dooley will take care of you." She whispers her voice a gentle lull. If her companion had decided that this lioness was to be taken care of she had to help even if it was only a little.

"My name is Dooley, and the little jackal is Wessex, we just want to help you okay? I promise we won't attack you." He smiles and goes back to cleaning her shoulder. "Can you roll over? I don't know if you have any cuts on the other side. I'm guessing, yes as I have blood on my fur." He nudges her carefully with a gentle muzzle, he didn't want to push her too hard but he needed to look at the other side too, there was no point only cleaning one side.

Hearing the gentle voice slowly guide her out of the panic, Kaelyn decided to just keep paying attention to her breathing. In for four counts, out for eight. In and out, in an out. As she focused more on her breathing, the less she felt the pain throbbing throughout her body. Eventually, she could even stand opening her eyes without repercussions. Blinking a couple times, Kaelyn took a deep, deep breath and breathed it out calmer now than she had been ten minutes prior.

Shifting her gaze to what she now knew was a jackal, Kaelyn frowned. She didn’t need anyone reminding her of her loss, even if it technically was a win. Feinting in her book even after the battle had been won is a great loss in her eyes. Swiveling her ears to mark her disgust, she attempted to move away, only to have more pain wash over her body.

s**t this isn’t good.

Allowing herself to go limp again, the lioness accepted her fate, listening to the voice from the lion above her. Dooley and Wessex. Had she heard of them before? Frowning, she attempted to look at the lion again. He was requesting her help in rolling over, something she wasn’t exactly sure was possible.

Opening her mouth to speak she realized just how dry it was, perhaps due to blood loss. Frowning, she sucked her mouth a bit until there was more saliva in it and attempted to speak again. “Just…” Grinding her teeth she realized it really wasn’t the time to be stubborn.

“I.. I will try.” Wincing, the dark brown lioness attempted to roll only to cry out in pain. She absolutely could not, not without causing more harm than good. Letting out a shuddering breath, Kaelyn looked up at Dooley.

“I can not.”

The big male frowned. She really was in a bad way. "Its okay, just lay still for the moment we'll have to get the other side later." He frowns a little, watching the lioness as she took even breaths. He wasnt much of a healer. He knew how to patch up a cut and he knew how to sort a bruise but all of these wounds. He needed more than just his tongue.

"I'm really sorry but we are going to hand to move." Without a seconds warning he shifted and pulled the smaller lioness on to his back, luckily, he was a massive great hulk of a thing and he managed to drape her on her belly across his spine. "Come on Wessex."

The jackal shook her head and couldn't help but laugh. "Dooley, I know you're fleeing ambitious here but be careful."

"What? She doesn't weigh hardly anything, we need water and some knot grass and maybe some water weed and all of those things are down at the watering hole." He starts to walk, his pace brusque, luckily, they weren't too far from the hole where he had stopped that very morning to get a drink.

The white jackal barked as they approached the waters edge warning the world that they were coming. A few antelope scattered and with her job done she loped to the waters edge and took a drink.

Dooley rolled his eyes and settled himself in to a shaded spot between a boulder and a small acacia tree. It was cooler here because of the water. "I'm sorry if that was a little bumpy." Once again the big male carefully slid her from his back managing, somehow to rotate her frame so he could look at her other side and start cleaning.

Wessex hopped up towards them both, a large green mess in her teeth. She dropped it at Kaelyn nose. "Suck on that, it will quench your thirst."

Kaelyn was less than pleased with the situation at hand, not only was she being treated like a rag doll, there was absolutely nothing she could do about it because of her wounds. With each passing moment she became more and more aware of the fact that she definitely would join the Stormborn… and make those who left her like this pay dearly. From what she had gathered by watching them, there had been a leader that the group looked to follow. She’d be damn sure to make that rank and keep a tight leash of her subordinates – No one would be allowed to just carelessly rough up locals in her troupe.

Growling as the steady thump, thump, thumping of her side against Dooley’s back persisted, Kaelyn did all she could to just calm down and ignore what was going on around her, but after a particularly bad bump, the lioness let out a cry.

Deep breath, happy place. She had to remind herself of this over and over again but soon enough she drifted asleep, only to be rudely awakened by the flop of her body against the ground. Wincing, she looked up at Dooley, then at the patch of green crap in front of her, then again at Dooley.

What is my life?

Rolling her eyes, the dark lioness begrudgingly took the greens to her mouth, a disgusted look upon her face as they sat there. A vegetarian she was not. Allowing it to sit for a small amount of time, she finally succumbed to the distasteful bitterness in her mouth and spat it back out.

“UGHACK!”
Swatting the pile of now wilted, greyed leaves away from her face she sent a mean look Wessex way. “Is this a joke?” Not realizing how wet her throat now was, she continued to stare at the white jackal, cross as shaken, wet cat.

Wessex barked and wagged her tail happily. "You're not supposed to eat it silly, just suck it." She snickers like this was clearly the most basic of things before padding off back down to the waters edge.

Dooley raises a brow watching his little friend wander off back down to the water. "She's trying to help you know? You think you can walk to the water ion your own right now?" He raises a brow, his voice was steady and calm, rational and the look in his blue eyes was full of a smile. "I know you're hurting but we are trying to help you. I'm sorry for the bumpy ride."

The white Jackal re-emerges from her trip down to the waters edge and drops a pile of damp weeds on his paws. "Rag weed, that will have to do."

Dooley nods an affirmative cleaning the last wound with his rough tongue he picks up the weed and chews it for a few moments before dropping it from his mouth in to the worst of her wounds. Some scratches he ignored. "Blehhhh that tastes so rubbish." He chuckles and gets to his paws. "Be right back I need to get some water to wash the green out of my mouth."

Wessex sits before the dark lioness and tilts her head. "Try to be nice to the big guy, he's a bit rough around the edges but he means well." She smiles waiting for her companion to return her tail wagging gently.

The massive male lion plods back up to their resting place, dropping another large soggy clump in front of the lioness he slowly lays down beside the dark female "I know it tastes a little funny but you should drink from this one too then sleep if you need to, we'll keep watch, we wont let anything harm you while you sleep." He smiles calmly, he had decided it was his duty to care for her until she could care for herself.

Twitching her tail with annoyance, Kaelyn did all she could to keep her mouth shut and emotions quiet -- It wasn’t like she was trying to eat the nasty greens, they just seeped bitterness into her mouth which left her in a rather miserable mood. Then Dooley spoke, causing her mood to worse, not because of anything they had done, but how she felt about herself.

“Perhaps I was meant to perish.” Kaelyn’s voice was all but a whisper as she wiggled into a more comfortable position. Had she taken more time to heal she wouldn’t even be in this predicament, yet there she was. Bloody and broken. A burden for a stranger to deal with.

Sighing softly, she looked at Wessex and just blinked at her, she understood what the jackal was trying to say, but her pride was keeping her from appreciating the helpfulness of the two.

I will try little pup.

Letting her body relax into sleep, she hadn’t even heard nor reacted to Dooley’s comments on the mix of wet greens before her. She was asleep, body twitching now and again from pain and perhaps a reaction to her dreams.

“The stormborn…”

Dooley wanted to reply to the female that now lay beside him, at least a little calm. He wanted to tell her that her life mattered but when he realised she was asleep he moved closer to her and pressed his pale hide against hers. He would keep her warm and he would watch.

"Sleep Wessex, she will be asleep for a while, I'll keep watch." He settled in, getting himself comfortable.

"After I clean this side." She leans against her friend and cleans the blood on his side. Once finished she nods and settles herself in comfortably, resting her head on her paws. "Wake me if anything happens." She yawns and closes her eyes.
