Raziel moved at a steady lope through the lands just beyond those claimed by his parents. He'd been living on his own for some time now, but family meant a great deal to him and he rarely ventured too far. The young male had even considered staking more of a permanent claim along the river that branched off into the stream that flowed by the family den. He was following another offshoot of that river when a shadow passed over him. Slowing down, Raziel looked up in time to see a bat-winged figure seemingly also following the stream. He'd encountered few winged ulaya in his life and having no real plans at the moment he picked up his pace and followed.

Turian was a traveler. He liked nothing better than taking to the air on his strong wings and spending hours just going whereever the wind took him. Today he was following a meandering stream. It was nice territory, well recovered from the chaos that had struck years before. In fact much of the area around the river that this stream fed into seemed to have fared quite well. If he had a mind to settle ... he laughed at the thought. There was little in this world that could make him settle even for a short time. A mate? Never, he could never settled for less than one that could and would join him in his travels. He did often dream of having such a partner, but he had yet to meet a compatible someone. The desire to nest was strong, but the others seemed to view it as something more permanent. He growled at the thought and looked ahead. "Ahh what a lovely place." He said softly aloud. It seemed he'd discovered the end of the stream, a pool filled with water lilies and surrounded by a tiny green meadow. It had been a long day of flying so a rest would be welcome so he began to circle lower, there was no better place he'd seen all day to have a drink and a bit of rest.

Raziel was happy to stretch his legs at a faster pace than his usual casual lope, but he was still glad to see the object of the chase begin to circle for a landing.
"Must have seen the meadow," Raziel said after getting a feel for his surroundings. He bristled a bit, it was a favorite place of his, the center of what his wished to claim as his own. In fact the pond itself had claim markers scratched into some of the rocks. Curiosity was still his dominant feeling, lucky for the winged-one. Fairly certain of his target's landing place Raziel moved back to his lope not wanting to be winded when he confronted his guest.

Turian came in for a smooth landing and was amazed at the softness of the grass under his paws. He gave last stretch of his wings before he folded them tightly to his sides. It was tempting to just fall into the soft grass, but first a drink. Walking over he found a clear spot and bent to lap when he spotted a flash of motion. He lifted his head startled by the fish, not something he was expecting. Smiling at the thought of a possible snack before he moved on, Turian finally took his drink.

Perched in a tree bordering the clearing, Raziel simply observed the undulcan. He'd learned early on to climb and enjoyed it; he had just needed to keep it from his mother. Thoughts of his childhood, spending time with his father learning to do safely things his mother didn't want them doing at all for fear of her children being hurt, distracted him for a moment from turning territorial.
When next his focus returned to the winged-one, a low growl moved through him... and he made his way quickly and silently out of the tree.

After having a drink and relaxing from his day's flight, Turian strolled around the pool. It looked casual but he was actually observing for a good spot to do some fishing. There were rocks on the far side from where the stream entered, but they didn't seem quite right. He walked out on them anyway and found that one did in fact go out a little further above the water and would make a perfect fishing spot.
Now he could always have gone a more hawkish route and taken to his wings again, but the calm of the place had him feeling a bit more laid-back about everything. He wasn't even all that hungry yet. Perched on the edge of the rock he peered intently into the water waiting for the signs of a fish venturing close enough to the surface to reach in a paw and claw himself a meal...
So intense was his focus on the water, he didn't notice the motion of the threat coming from the trees... but he couldn't help but here the warning growl when the ulaya reached the opposite edge of the pool....

The sight of the other perching on HIS fishing rock and staring intently at HIS fish was finally too much for Raziel. He wasn't even sure how he made the way so quickly out of the tree and covered the ground to the pool paws silent the only sounds escaping him his angry growls.
When the intruder looked up at his growls, Raziel finally spoke, "What do you think you're doing?"

Turian was at a loss as he took in the sight of the bristling demonic ulaya that confronted him. A shiver passed through him causing his own fur to bristle and he opened his wings slightly and growled in return.
The angry question had Turian's own temper flaring. "I'm a traveler taking a rest and contemplating a meal of one of the fine fish that inhabit this pond. At least that was my plan before you came barging over here! Who or what are you to interfer?"

"Did you just ask me WHAT I am?" Raziel grew even more angry at that one. The demonic side of his nature showed now as it did only rarely as a fire gleaming in his golden eye that emphasized the red sclera. Though the fire didn't flare through him quite as intensely as his mother, he could feel the heat in his paws and lashing tail.
"I'm the ulaya that happened to have stocked this pond. If you had taken a moment to look you would have seen the territory markings in the trees bordering this place and on the base of the rocks you're now perched on." Admittedly the marks were old, but they were still visible. Raziel had scratched them himself when he and his father had brought the fish to the pond. He might still be deciding if this would be his permanent home, but he had staked a claim on this pool at least.

With the fire glowing in his eye and... was the grass at his paws smoking?... "what" seemed to be a reasonable question. But the words of the demon finally seeped passed Turian's defensive fear.
"This is your space? I ... I didn't realize..." he stammered. "I flew in so I was in no position to notice the trees, And I'll admit I was more focused on food than looking here at the rocks."
There were certain protocols to being a wanderer or traveler in another's territory and he'd been a fool to ignore them by not even taking the time to look for markers. Since his current perch seemed to be the driving issue Turian folded his wings and backed off of the rocks. He probably could have just flown away, but darn it he liked this place and this strange ulaya was like nothing he'd ever seen before. He wanted to learn more, if he could get passed the insult he'd caused...

The fear in the other satisfied the demon within him and Raziel slowly regained some control as the other stammered through an explaination that bordered on an apology but wasn't quite. His fur still bristled and his tail lashed but his eye returned to gleaming gold instead of fire and the grass at his paws ceased to burn. He didn't take his eyes off the winged one as he backed off of the rocks, working hard not to turn his back on the threat. Smart move since the demon was still close enough to rise quickly if the stranger made the wrong move. So Raziel held his ground and watched and waited. His mind calmer now he noted the amazing intricacies of the others markings, the dark golden eyes ... There was much to admire here, and curiosity of what the traveler would do or say next took over again. His tail slowed from lash to wave as he waited.

Turian approached slowly his eyes widening in wonder as he saw the others appearance shift to something more nearly resembling a common ulaya. Still there were those fangs and that spaded tail, not to mention the eyes... But there was no longer fire blazing in that golden eye. He paused, a few good strides or a jump between them.
"Hello, I'm Turian. I'm very sorry for intruding upon your territory. I do hope however to enjoy this welcome resting spot for a time more?"

Raziel grinned, his usual amused nature shining through and his tail settled. "Ahh, that's more like it. I'll admit I've been away visiting family so my markers have faded a bit." He looked around possessively and he smiled looking a bit wicked with his fangs. "I can't say I blame you for choosing this place. Of all the land bordering my family's home, this is my favorite spot."
He strolled forward closing the gap between them. "My name is Raziel, it's a pleasure to meet you Turian. You're welcome to stay as long as you don't mind some company."

"Thank you, Raziel. I admit it's surprising to be so welcome after... well... " Turian looked nervously the other and then flicked a glance at the scorched grass. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but it does still stand... what are you?"

A brief flicker of annoyance but Raziel was interested in learning more about Turian now, so he decided to tell the truth. The wicked grin returned "My grandmother is a fire demon. I guess I inherited some of it."
Of course the full truth was that it scared him that the demon was making itself felt more and more now. It was a complication he would have to deal with soon.
