The elaborate halls of the theater had been all to quiet as of late. It seemed as if it had been ages since the last performance had taken place on the clean gold-lined stage. Cobwebs had begun to cling to parts of the puppets and backgrounds that hung from the rafters. Oddly enough, the stage and the statues remained cleaned and clear of such signs of unused and age.

Chronos sat on the edge of the stage and peered out into the dark auditorium. The feint gold trim of the balconies winked at him with each flickering of the candle lights positioned around the room. How glorious this place would be if only people would come.

Things had been quiet for Chronos as well. His sworn brother had been missing, the actors and actresses have been gone. Even Esdras, his blood-giver, had been away. He couldn't blame her or his sworn brother. They were of the wind and needed the air now and than.

Perhaps it was time to work on more projects in the workshop again, the stage could use some tinkering...

Ever since the time Fauna had been woven into existence and found her way in the Dark Tribe, there had been a pull she felt towards the Theater. It was such a revered place full of excitement and color and laughter, all the things that the B'alam had held close to her heart, especially as a cub, and yet... She had never gone in since she was a youth.

Now, she was older and the pull was still omnipresent. She went about her life, trying to bring cheer to others where she could, but couldn't shake the feeling that she ought to be doing something else. She didn't realize what it was until she began to suspect it might be too late.

The Theater's performances began to dwindle and for a while, other members of the tribe began to wonder what had occurred, but then they went on with their lives. By that point, Fauna had mourned the lack of interest in the Theater as though it were a living relative of hers that had died. She wanted to see it flourish again-no, she needed to and she would do anything she could to make that happen.

Her paws had been aching to create something wonderful since she was woven and now that she had realized how she wanted to contribute, she couldn't just let it fade into the shadows of the cave. But where to start? She couldn't even begin to imagine how much work it would take!

So, she began with going into the Theater for the first time in ages. The auditorium was dark, but there was something restless in the air, like it wanted to be used again--or... maybe that was just Fauna wanting to take to her calling. She brushed her tail over surfaces, dusting them lightly and turning over in her mind, until she felt the gaze of another and looked up, startled.

On the edge of the stage, sat a large B'alam and she froze in place for a moment. She didn't know him, but she felt somewhere deep within her that she must. Her paws led her up to the stage where she looked up with him with wide eyes and slowly a look of comprehension took over her expression. Her lips curled upward into a large grin.

"Hello Sir." She said with excitement evident in her voice. "Do pardon me for intruding, I didn't think anyone else would be in here."

Chronos watched the nan approach with a growing grin on his maw, one anyone who knew him would recognize immediately. A new face! What fun can be had! His wings shuffled a bit before settling once again. His eyes locked with her own. The look within those sky-blue eyes was intriguing.

"Oh? Most days, as of late, you would have been correct. " Chronos lowered his head in a small but formal greeting.

"Curious though, my dear." He tilted his head to his side. "Why would you come to a theater thinking it would be empty?"

Upon seeing his nod, Fauna rushed to bow her head and her body dipped forward, her wings stretched slightly from her flanks. Then, at his question, she snapped back to attention, but found herself at a slight loss to reply.

"Why I came...?" She replied and her eyes moved from the large b'alam to her surroundings. She felt at ease here and found her answer with the sight of the stage. "I don't hear about anyone coming in here as much as they have, Sir, but I would like to work to change that." The smile she gave him was shy and she fidgeted with her wings, a habit that came with feeling nervous in the presence of someone so grand. "That is, what I mean to say is, uhm..." The fidgeting became more wild before she finally settled down and fixed her eyes upon the large figure in front of her, determination suddenly radiating off of her. "I want to bring this Theater back to its glory before, from what I remember it as from when I was a cub... Everyone who came out of here was bright-faced and full of laughter and I want to... I'm going to make it like that again!" It was more of a declaration than an answer, she realized, but she found that in saying so it made it more real, so she would say it as many times as she needed while she worked.

"I don't quite know where to start," She admitted. "I haven't any notion to where any of the performers or apprentices have gone to, but I'll do my best and it'll work! It's bound to-I know it will!" Her jaw set and her chest puffed out, she was confident that she could complete such a task.

She just hoped that the male in front of her didn't make fun of her. It would be rather disheartening to be mocked for something she loved so.

Chronos's ears perked forward while the nan explained herself. He couldn't help but hold his grin the whole time. Enthusiastic. That was the first word to come to mind before she finished. Confident was another, yet, uncertain? No, she was serious about this task. What could she be uncertain about?

Once her words settled Chronos threw his head back and laughed whole heatedly.

"Oh, ho-ho, my dear, you came to a theater you thought to be empty. I believe you knew where to start." His laughter tapered down into an amused chuckle. "I wish I could answer that question. All have gone... but, do forgive me, I suppose I should be proper." He lept from the stage and made his approach. "I am Chronos, stage master of the theater. I work on keeping the stage from falling in on itself."

He tipped his head again. "And who might you be my ambitious dear?"

He had laughed at her and for a moment, Fauna wasn't sure if she wanted to snap at him that she could do it, so there!... Or cry. So, she only stared at him with wide eyes looking rather concerned, until she was able to register it within her mind that he was trying to be... encouraging!

Her expression relaxed into relief once she realized he was not making fun or her nor being cruel to her dreams and after a moment she began to smile again. The smile dropped off her face in shock when the large b'alam introduced himself.

"Oh my..." She whispered and then she seemed to explode. "You're the stage master? Oh, it is such an honor, Sir!" She said, coming forward to greet him, beaming as she did. "My name is Fauna and it's such a pleasure, really!"

The stage master... Oh, she should have guessed, she supposed, but to hear it and to have everything connect up and... Goodness she was really starting to feel overwhelmed and as a result took a few deep breaths before continuing.

"Sorry about that Chronos-Sir, I get excited easily." Wing fidget, wing fidget. "Anyway... You said everyone has gone... But where have they gone to? For all that I want to help, I think it might be best for me to understand why the Theater has fallen into such disuse before I can try to come up with my plan for returning it to its former glory." She told him, her smile ever-present.

Chronos chose not to comment at her brief, but apparent dismay. They had not meet, and she would likely in time get used to his mannerisms. Life was worth a laugh at times.

He waved his paw dismissively at the mention of "sir". The respect was appreciated, but it seemed far to formal for himself. "Truly, the honor is mine. It is delightful to see someone beside these puppets within the theater."

With a light flick of his wing he gestured toward the various puppets suspended above the stage. A merry chuckle from the stage master seemed to catch the attention of the lifeless wooden creations, or perhaps that was just the draft that occasionally "brought them to life".

"Cub-like excitement is welcome here. One should never apologize for it within these walls. It is only with the mind of a cub that one can see the world with unique wonder." His eyes wandered to her fidgeting wings briefly. "Hmn, life goes on, perhaps it carried them all with it. How lucky it seemed to carry you here!... Without that why, would you still wish to "help"?"

Her wings stopped fidgeting when she received the compliment and Fauna was immensely happy that she had come to the theater that day. She smiled up at the older male and then glanced up at the puppets above. A look of pleased determination came over her face as she gazed at them. She would see them used in performance again and all who looked on them would be merry and light-hearted.

"Yes, you're right." She said, returning her gaze to the stage master. She looked puzzled for a moment, not entirely understanding his question, but replied the best I could. "Pardon me if I've misunderstood, but if you mean, if there were still others here, would I desire to help, then yes, of course!" She turned a little, looking at the theater behind her. "I may have only just realized it myself to it's full extent, but my place has always been here and I would care to participate as a part of it's production whoever may or may not help me do so."

She glanced back at Chronos, hoping that her answer had been a satisfactory one and then after a moment of awkwardness (would it be too forward a question?) she asked.
"Would you be willing to help aid me in my dream?"

Chronos only smiled as he watched her try and puzzle out what he had asked her. It was more fun to see what they could interpret for themselves. There was no doubt that no two b'alam would have the same response for the question, and the less creative ones would ask for an explanation. Fauna was on the right track.

"You alone are responsible for realizing your dreams, my dear. Oh, but I will not hinder you if that is a concern." He chuckled. "Once can only do so much to be a wall before you realize you have wings." He shifted his wings slightly.

"How do you do with cubs?" Chronos inquired suddenly while he settled his wings again.

Fauna's hopeful look in her eyes faded as she considered the words of the great b'alam, but she did not look disheartened. While it would have been nice to get some help, even a little bit of direction from another one, to know that she was not alone in wanting the grand theater to get back on its feet (metaphorically speaking, of course, she knew the theater didn't have literal paws.)

The more she thought about it though, the more she realized that if Chronos didn't care about the theater, then they wouldn't be having this conversation to begin with. That, in the very least, gave her hope for the future. Tucking her wings against her pelt, she began to smile again.

"Cubs?" She echoed when she asked. "Well, I haven't had any accidents with any yet." She said with a smile and a half-shrug. "I know that I like them-I like seeing them smile, though that can be said for any b'alam." Fauna was grinning from ear to ear now at the thought of it. "But with cubs, it's nice to watch them interacting with something new, even if it's something you're familiar with and may have gotten bored of, because they're experiencing it for the first time and the wonder in their eyes, oh, it's exciting to watch." She turned her gaze onto the Stage Master. "So, I guess, you could say, I do well with cubs, taking all that into account." She concluded, with a flourish of her wings.
