It was very late, and Giulia should not have been awake. But she was thirsty, and there had been a loud noise outside, and she was a big girl, and did not have to worry about such things as being scared of the dark, or being afraid of bad people. She had Aidan, and she had Nanny, and she had Mama not far down the hall. But she was curious. And very, very thirsty. One of those things, she needed to fix. Why not both! Pushing aside the silky drapes and clambering out of her princess bed, Giulia scraped bare feet over the soft carpet that covered hardwood floors, and then over the wooden floor itself, toddling over to the door to her bedroom and pulling it open. The hallway was dark, and there was the sound of something clipping down the hall. Maybe Castor was out and about? But Jada's door was closed, so why would Jada have just let him out? But there it was again, the little clicky-clipping sound. Gripping the skirt of her nightgown, Giulia resolved to be the strong princess that she knew she was, and follow the noise down the hall. Over the floor, on nigh-silent feet, bright blue eyes wide and curious; seeking danger and excitement, knowing she could be brave!

He'd stayed the night, for a change, in the giant Chamberlyn mansion as opposed to his lonely, small apartment. Most of the time when he'd come to visit Jada and the children, he'd made sure to sneak out at an appropriately late hour and return to home or, if he didn't feel like sleeping, Elysion. Only on rare occasions did he stay put, feeling rather like a cad for taking advantage of the innocence of others who, aside from Jada herself, presumed him to be nothing more than a harmless, out of place, visiting seal. The children loved him and he loved them - which was insane, honestly, considering how much he normally abhorred children and their general noisiness. But he would worry about that later. The soft thuds of a small body roaming the hallway woke him up from his deep slumber, the white seal nestled in the soft, cotton pet bed that the Chamberlyns had purchased for him to have of his very own. Disregarding the fact that he was sleeping in a pet bed, blue eyes groggily opened to investigate for the sudden, midnight noise-maker.

Giulia's bare feet pattered over the cold marble stairs, tripping her way down in the darkness, the inside of the house barely lit by a single kitchen light, and the shimmer of stars and a heavy moon coming in through the front windows. The skittering was still there, echoing in the corners, and she followed it down the stairs. "Castor?" she whispered. "Kittykitty?" But there was no reply, and her brow furrowed. She made her way a few more steps down, and then a few more, clinging to the handrail like her mama had always told her to in the mornings. "Castor?" she raised her voice, and listened to the skittering noise. Was it a mouse? A rat? She didn't see any people-sized shapes... She made her way the rest of the way downstairs, and looked around. The house was big, and echoey... where was the skittering coming from? A small creak seemed to answer her question, and she made her way across the foyer, steps slow and timid.

"Kittykitty?"Giulia's young voice carried through the hall, soft but distinct. He squirmed out of his bed, rocking from side to side in an attempt to ease his way off of the fluffy, heavenly cushion. One flipper nudged the water bowl that he used only one time (he was really thirsty, okay) and he stilled. It was one thing for a small child to make noise through the house but as someone who wasn't intending to be around in the first place... Careful not to jostle the other belongings that the children had lovingly gifted their favorite seal, he inched and scooted his way across the floor, moving towards what he hoped was the source of the soft whispering. Giulia shouldn't have been up at such a late hour and if he needed to nudge her back towards her bedroom, he'd be the dutiful... seal, or whatever, and help out. Pet. Family pet. At least it was being more useful than the stupid cat that lurked around.

Giulia followed the skittering through the darkness, towards one ot=f the ground floor side halls, and towards the side door. Her princess nightgown swirled around her legs as she moved over the floor, relaxing when it switched from icy marble to hardwood. More skittering led her to- why was the door open? Giulia crept closer, big blue eyes peering out into the darkness. And it was dark, over here. But the door was standing open, yet there was none of the little beepy skrieks that came when the alarm was going off. She should go get Jada. Or she could go outside. Giulia was kind of leaning to that, and she pulled open the door further, staring out into the dark. What had made the skittering? Why was the door open? There were so many questions, and as she stepped bare-feet out into the snow, listening to the crunch, she didn't concern herself with the full answers.

Crap.He caught a glimpse of curly blonde hair right before it disappeared into the darkness that lay beyond the open doorway. Who had left the door open to begin with? Why weren't the alarms set? Even if the dastardly cat had managed to pry open the door, the alarms should have woken everyone up in the house, himself included! Cursing silently to himself, he fought to force his blubbery weight across the floor, wiggling after the small child who knew better but still had managed to slip outside in nothing more than a frail little nightie. Should he alert the others? Start squawking and create a ruckus to bring Jada out running in full messy hair and groggy state? There wasn't time to wait for them to wake up, no. She could slip and fall or worse, wind up in the frigid waters of the backyard pool. Slick white fur turned tan as flippers converted to fingers and back fins sprouted dark slippers. The elf-like man quickly rose from his stomach onto his knees as he paused to catch his breath, black beady eyes turning icy blue. It took him a moment to regain his balance before he could stand up straight and tall, all semblance of seal now gone, save for the white pelisse on his shoulder. His gaze never left the open door, the Elysion Guardian now taking his time as he too slipped out into the brisk winter night in search of the golden haired beauty.

Her tiny feet crunched into the snow, and Giulia giggled at the chill of it. it squished between her toes like cold, soaking sand, and while it sent a shiver up her spine, it wasn't terrible. She felt comfortable in the snow, and loved to play in it! Bright blue eyes looked around, seeking any kind of scritch-prints in the snow. Whatever had been making the sound had to have feet, right? And it had to haev gone somewhere. It was so very dark, though, and Giulia couldn't see- oh. In that direction? The sound tugged at her ears again and she followed obediently, her curiosity driving her up the wall. She had never come outside before, this late. She'd never been awake this late, though. How often did this happen? What late-night adventures was she missing? "Hellooo~?" she sing-songed again, wrapping tiny, cold hands around her chest. Her princess nightgown wasn't as warm as the coats mama made her wear. Maybe she should go put on shoes? But no- there was the noise again, and the flash of something skittering through the dark. "Hello?" she called louder, and the figure froze, turning in the darkness. She was being looked at, and Giulia still couldn't tell by what. It didn't... look like Castor? It was bigger. Fluffier.

Blue shoes crunched in the snow, one glove rising to pull the wool of his pelisse closer towards his neck. Why in the world would the child run off into the cold with neither coat nor shoes? What on Earth could have possibly convinced her to leave the warmth and safety of her bedroom to explore the frigid, midnight air? Glancing around, the faint light coming from inside the house gave him enough aid to spot the backside of the small girl in the Disney print nightie. Blonde curls bounced as she approached a shadowy creature around the corner of the house. " Giulia." His words were sharp and curt, Seal's Eye stepping forward as his eyes narrowed. Was it Castor? A raccoon? Whatever it was - it wasn't safe and red flags were waving in the back of his head as the young man moved to close the distance between himself and the child. "Giulia, get away from that."

Whatever it was in the dark crept closer to Giulia, belly low to the ground, the steps a soft crunch instead of the skitter of claw on marble. Giulia beamed, pleased, and leaned down. Clearly it was the kitty. She didn't even ask herself how it had gotten into the house, for why should she? An unfamiliar voice said her name, and the creature's eyes flicked up, gleaming red as it gave a low growl- and fled. "Oh!" she cried, watching the form almost slither its way across the snow, back into the deeper shadow. "Kitty!" Were it not so cold, she may have chased it into the darkness, but between the strange voice which had so paternally called her name, and the cold slush on her tiny feet, she turned instead to look at the humanoid. It was an elf. Pointed shoes and pointed ears and bright eyes and even perfect elven hair, and Giulia gasped in delight, clapping her rainbow-tipped hands together. "You are beautiful," she gasped adoringly. "Are you an elf? Do you work with Santa? Are you a Prince?" he didn't look like a Santa elf, but none of the other elves were real. "Or a fairy?!?!"

The sense of dread lingered, despite the shadow wriggling its way back into the darkness from where it had arrived. Blue eyes that had looked on so protectively began to widen in surprise as the small girl turned her entire attention towards him. Seal's Eye glanced down to feel the cold chill in his palm - had he been instinctively preparing to attack whatever had drawn the small girl from her home? He was the Guardian of Elysion, not of small children. "I..." His words had lost their boldness as little, sweet Giulia giggled. He had never intended on any of the Chamberlyns to see him in any other form than the playful seal they'd grown to love, so there'd been no reason for him to develop any sort of backstory otherwise. As he saw the sheer delight in her expression, however, paired with the innocence behind her eager questions, he felt the cold defenses around his guarded heart begin to quickly melt away. Bare feet caught his attention and the young man knelt down towards the small girl, beckoning her forward and away from the freezing snow she stood on. "I am but a lowly guardian, young maiden." A smile curved up along the firm line of his mouth. "Here to protect and serve princesses such as yourself."

The elf seemed somewhat startled, maybe? Its eyes went wide, and it seemed to hesitate, and Giulia froze, her own eyes going wide. Was he going to run? If she held her breath and didn't move, would he stay? He breath misted the cold air, and she stared at the fairy-prince in front fo her, toes flexing and curling in the uncomfortable slush. The excitement of the scritchy-sounding kitty-shape in the darkness went forgotten as he knelt and beckoned her, and she toddled forward on small, cold feet. Someone as pretty as he was couldn't be bad. She could find the homeless kitty in the morning. Giulia giggled in pleasure at being called a princess, tilting her chin and giving him a wiggly-toothed grin. "Are you a Guardian like in the movie? Like Jack Frost, and Santa, and the Sandman?" she scampered closer to him, off of the snow, and offered him one small, cold, rainbow-nailed hand. She wasn't a very good princess yet, maybe, but she smoothed her Elsa-themed nightgown, with its organza ruffles, and pressed a hand to her Elsa-faced applique. She would be like Elsa, and not let the cold bother her. It wasn't every day one got to meet a Fairy Guardian Prince.

A single gloved hand rose to take hers, gently grasping around the tiny, rainbow-colored fingernails as he leaned down to kiss the back of it in a flourishing, best-attempt-at-being-Princely-like manner. Blue eyes studied the small child as he drew away, noting the rose-colored cheeks and tousled blonde hair from the girl standing in the snow in the middle of the night. Toes had grown red as well, the end of her nightgown whipping in the wind as she stood there, curious and inquisitive as ever despite the harsh climate attempting to devour her fragile being. Without a second thought, he leaned forward and swooped her off of her feet, cradling the child against the fur of his jacket as he spun around and made his way back towards the brightly lit room they'd both snuck out from. He knew he hadn't answered her question - but how could he? It wasn't right to just lie to an infant, but how could someone at such a young age even begin to understand Elysion or the Guardians who protected it? "I am Seal's Eye," He finally said, allowing her to conjure up any notions she might have from his introduction, "I am a Dream Guardian - I protect dreams of young maidens and princesses, Giulia. You should be dreaming right now and not chasing shadows in the snow." His tone was firm, but the smile that danced along the edge of his lips revealed the lack of anger enforcing his words. "We wouldn't want to upset Jada now, would we?"

The Elf-Guardian-Prince took her hand, kissing it dramatically, and Giulia gasped again, tiny toes curling with delight, small fingers squeezing around his hand. How noble. How royal. How princely. How perfect. How glorious, and wonderful, and amazing! Clearly, this lowly guardian was not lowly at all! Only a real Prince could bow like that! He leaned in, sweeping her off her feet, and Giulia gave a soft cry, clinging to the Prince's jacket, her 6 year old heart fluttering. Oh! Such princely behavior, so kind! She stared up at him, almost literal stars in her eyes. "I love Seals," she said at last in a dramatic whisper. "They are my favorite creatures. Did you know they can sleep underwater?" A dream guardian, huh? "They might have been Castor," she said after a moment. "And I needed a drink of water." though she could have gotten water from her bathroom. "But upsetting Jada would be bad. She gets- how did you know about Jada, Prince-Eye?"

"I know a lot of things, young Princess." His cryptic words lingered as he moved to push the door further open with his shoulder, the warmth of the house engulfing them both as he made his way out of the chilly night air. Ensuring it closed behind them and locked securely, he then moved towards the staircase, glancing down at his charge. "And I know that creature was not Castor, little one." Whatever it had been, hopefully it was gone - at least for the time being. He'd have to investigate it further after tucking the little escapee back into bed. "I promise to keep this our little secret if you will. Proper princesses need a good night's sleep, after all," Making his way down the hallway, his voice quieted down until he reached the doorway to the little girl's room. One hand moved out and twisted the knob, then returned to cradling the runaway as he entered the room, "And how else will a Dream Guardian be able to visit your dreams if you aren't busy dreaming?" In no time she was tucked away, fluffy blanket pulled up to her chin as the Elysion Guardian moved to sit on the edge of the bed, looking down on her as fingers brushed a wayward strand of curly hair behind her ear.

She liked being called a Princess. That didn't stop her from giving him a suspicious look. No one knew a lot of things. Did they? Well, if anyone was going to, it would be her magical Prince. As the Prince carried her through the kitchen, carefully closing and locking the door behind them, Giulia became acutely aware of how cold she was and how sleepy, and thirsty. She yawned loudly, curling into the larger form of her Christmas Prince Elf Seal, blinking deep blue eyes and rubbing at her face. "You're sure?" she asked him, worried that Catstor might still be out in the cold. She beamed at him, nodding as he lowered his voice and she yawned again, the noise seeming very loud to her ears. "Proper Princesses sleep on peas," she told him with a little giggle. "I read the fairy tales." he cuddled her, and it was nice. Giulia didn't get enough big brother or daddy cuddles. Lucas was at school a lot, and she didn't have a daddy. So she curled into him without protest. "What kind of dreams do you-" yawn- "guard? Do you protect me from bad dreams? Can I be a dream guardian like you one day, if I am a very good princess?"
