More About Miliani
Personality: Miliani cares about all life around her, wanting to make sure that everything is taken care of. It doesn't matter if it is a bug, a blade of grass, or a fellow Kaha'iko either. Her compassion is something that many admire about her, always willing to help wherever she can, even if it is just a kind word. She also always apologizes to anything she has to use for her livelihood. However, this can make her a bit of a pushover. She has a hard time telling others no, even when she has too many things to juggle. She will sometimes forego sleep or eating for a day, just so that she can finish something that is requested of her. Sometimes she needs others to remind her to take care of herself and to do more of what makes her happy. When she is taken advantage of, she tends to get upset and will cry some. Once she has calmed down, she will try not to let what happen eat at her, knowing that she just has to try and be a bit more careful.
Miliani is also a very gentle person, who does not like seeing people fighting. She will step in and try to act as mediator, trying to get people to reach a compromise. If she cannot get people to stop, then she will walk away until they are finished. She is okay with hunting, since she knows they need the meat and leather, but does not understand the point of weapons outside of that. Unfortunately, she can also be very naive when it comes to things that might pose a danger to her. It makes it very easy for someone to take advantage of her, thinking that she can trust the person or animal. She has gotten some scratches from some of the animals she thought looked harmless. Some people have had her fall for their sob story, so that she would give them her last piece of food or drink of water.
Despite being naive about some things, she is also known for being very clever. She loves coming up with new ways to solve a task or make people's lives easier. Miliani could sit for hours tinkering with a new way to catch fish or some way to tame some of the wildlife. In fact, she wants to be one of the people who figures out how to make pets and things out of their local fauna. The idea of it excites her and she feels she can do it with her brains and her gentle touch. The flip side of this is that she can get a little too focused on a task. She could hide away in her room for hours at a time, trying to get something to work. Just like when she is helping others, she forgets to take care of herself when she is lost in her world of inventions. This sort of isolates her from others sometimes, where she needs to be reminded of the outside world.
History: Miliani is an only child, the daughter of two scavengers, one more deep water and the other more closer to the surface. She has always lived in Malie, getting to see all the different Kaha'ikos in her settlement. Also, she has been able to see all kinds of different flora and fauna that inhabit the area. She would have to say she has had a pretty good life, though her parents were usually busy collecting resources. However, that gave the young girl plenty of time to spend with her maternal grandparents. It was her grandfather who sparked her love of inventing when they made a ocarina together. He taught her to always appreciate being different, since everyone needed to find the one thing that made them unique. Sadly, her grandfather died of old age, a few days after they had finished the instrument. He told her on his death bed how much he loved her and to never give up on her dreams.
For a week after her grandfather died, Miliani hid herself away from everyone, grief hitting her very hard. She would spend time in her own area, not speaking to anyone. It took a cute animal swimming by that had been her grandfather's favorite, to snap her out of it. The animal seemed so happy and she knew that was how her grandfather would want her to be. So the girl came out of hiding and threw herself into inventing new things for people to use. She was determined to keep her promise to continue her dreams, to reach for the sky. It was a pleasure to help others, even if it was in very small ways.
