Al returned to the room with two cans of soda and various snacks. When he left Noah was just preparing to do some "homework" so he was sure to be at his desk by now buried in it.
That was Noah's apparent plan anyway.
Al had other ideas.
He made his way into the room and sat a can on the desk Next to Noah's arm and hooked the used grocery bag full of snacks on the back of his chair before pulling a second chair right up to Noah's.
"Hey, I got us dinner."

Noah was indeed buried in "homework," collating notes and making calculations. The door opening barely registered, but the footsteps sounded like Al, so he didn't jump when Al set a can down net to him and pulled up a chair. He put down his pencil and sat up, stretching his arms above his head. "Awesome, thank you," he said, and leaned over to collect a kiss.

"It's no much," Al admitted as he tilted his head back to deliver the expected kiss. "Say, um, I've been thinking."
He opened his own can and took a quick sip before setting it down next to Noah's.
In the bag, Noah would find double of everything; egg salad sandwiches, chips, and a couple candy bars.
"It's been a while since either of us have been on a mission." Al held a hand out to take the bag once Noah took his half.

Noah dug into the bag and extracted a sandwich, unwrapping it. "It has," he agreed, frowning a little. "Duties and stuff, but no missions yet. Do you think we're on some kind of exclusion list still?"
NOT ENOUGH FIGHTING, Laz complained. Noah ignored him.

"No really." Al gave Noah a lopsided sort of look before removing the second sandwich from the bag and sort of looking at it.
He turned his attention back to Noah. "...have... um... have you been avoiding them?"

Noah paused before taking a bite of his sandwich and gave Al a confused look."No ... I mean, it's like, our job, you have to go when you get assigned one. I've been working on the lab projects and stuff that I get called up for."

"I don't think that keeps me from getting called up. Would it?" Noah glanced over at his notebooks, frowning. Maybe it wasn't a bad thing that he'd been doing a lot of work, if that was what was going on.

Al shrugged a shoulder and swallowed the bite he took. "Are you sure it's not intentional?"

"I don't know. Maybe I'm not allowed to for a certain amount of time because of - what happened." His voice faltered slightly, but he went on. "Or, do you mean me? I'm not, I"m not avoiding it."

Al eyed the amount of work on the desk and then peered back at Noah, "you sure?"

Noah made a face at Al. "I'm not," he said, then hesitated. "Not on purpose, anyway, I didn't think working a lot would make them not send me, you know? So if it's happening it's not because I tried to."

"Maybe you could... um... take on less, just in case?" He gave Noah a strange look and then turned his attention back to his sandwich, taking another bite. Truth be told, he was feeling restless and anxious. Nuru wasn't helping, the weapon wanted a fight or an adventure or both.
He just... couldn't without Noah.

Noah bit into his sandwich and chewed quietly, trying to decide how he felt about that. Was he avoiding missions? He wasn't doing it intentionally. He wasn't unhappy that he'd been working primarily in the labs, but it wasn't like he was trying to do that. After a moment, he swallowed, and asked, "Why are you bringing this up now?"

"They called another mission today. But here we are... again. You... working, I guess." Al couldn't help the accusatory tone. He stared at his sandwich a moment before adding, "I mean. You want to go on missions again, don't you?"
