((Feel free to bring any seathi, sea ponies, villains, heroes, etc! Seathi and etc to be stuck, villains to perhaps take advantage of the situation, and heroes to help.

Note: Please state in your posts whether you'd be open to having your character roughed up and injured by any of the villains present! If not, we'll assume you're not interested.))

Nothing could quite draw the denizens of the deep as the sheen of pearls. From her vantage point just beneath the surface, Xochitl could make out what must have been the mother of all pearls-- bright, gleaming, and shimmering with a certain mysterious shine. Captivated, the seathi made her way to the surface, vaguely aware that she was not alone in the cold waters. Her attention was focused solely on that lovely prize, a fact which she would soon regret. How beautiful it was, with a rare luster found in few pearls these days. She had to have it. No matter how close it was to the shore, she had to have it.

Perhaps it should have come as no surprise when the water began to freeze. With the storm coming in, the chill had crept up over the Kawani lands, seeping even into the waters nearest where the waves crashed against those very lands. Before she knew it, Xochitl was trapped. And she was certainly not alone. With the pearl still out of reach, she became aware of a slowly building panic. She couldn't budge so much as an inch! Shivering, the seathi tried to slap her way free with her flaring nixie tail-- to no avail. "Help!" she cried, desperation climbing at a rapid pace. For the water was only growing colder. "Please, can anyone help me?" Could anyone hear her at all?

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Oh yes, the calls of the seathi hadn't gone unnoticed. A flutter of wings and the red and white Velocicondor landed not too far away and stared at the seathi that seemed to have gotten themselves stuck in the ice. Pacing back and forth on the branch he had found himself on he pondered if he should just wait for one to just die or perhaps go and get Indominus right away. She would be able to do something about these fish in the ice. At least he could talk to them for a minute before leaving to go and get his meal maker. He was curious to know how they had gotten stuck in the ice at any rate.

Deciding to check it how he flew down to the ground and walked closer towards them, using his clawed wings to make it look as though he was walking on all fours almost. Cocking his head as he grew closer to the fish he cleared his throat. "May I ask, how did this happen?" He had to know, like how was it even possible that this was a thing? He knew at any rate he could get an answer before Indominus showed up, or he left to bring her here. She liked to track him sometimes. "I heard your calls for help and just had to come and see what all the fuss was about." He was sure glad he had now. Free food, and fish none the less! Well seathi. He'd had it before, one had died of old age and he had feasted on it, but these were fresh, and young! So he was quite excited.

Indominus whipped her spiked tail behind her as she walked along, the snow crunching beneath her weight as she moved carefully along. She had seen the direction her feathered scavenger had gone earlier and had finally decided to see what was taking him so long. While he wasn't someone she needed, he was handy at times. Even she could admit that. Menacing red eyes danced around as her ears caught the distant sounds of voices. Stopping she paused to listen. Where those calls for help? Holding still she grinned wickedly, oh yes. This was shaping up to be quite the day! She was certain that was where Leukos was and she figured by the faintness they were a distance away but not too far.

Making her decision she decided to start walking that way. Oh yes, this was going to be very nice indeed. Whoever it was would wish they weren't being so loud. After all, you never knew who you'd might attract. She was hoping that this encounter went better then the last one that Leukos tried to set up for her. That kelpie-flutter foal had been so delectable but that Wolf had to get in the way. She would get that Stallion back if it was the last thing she did. He shouldn't have interfered and he stood out so he would forever remain in the back of her mind, his blue hair and furry coat were unique and made him stand out and one day she'd be his death. If she could help it anyway.

Apatite
User Image

Apatite frowned, staring at the mass of seathi that seemed to all be coalescing here. “Cy, are you sure this is a good idea?” He felt an uncomfortable sensation, being in this open space. His back was unprotected, and there were so many others. Though he had largely overcome his fear of strangers, so many in one place was still very intimidating. He felt incredibly out of his comfort range, though he hardly wanted to admit his weakness to Cyllene. No doubt she would give him an earful for it.

“It’s awfully cold, are you sure we shouldn’t just… camp out underwater for a bit?” He frowned, judging the temperature. Ice was a serious concern here.

Cyllene
User Image

Cyllene turned around to give Apatite the most ferocious look she could muster. “You want me to GIVE UP? No. There is a pearl up there, with my name on it. You got the memo. Big pearl, first to reach it GETS IT. Ap, you know I need pearls. I need so many pearls. So. We need to get up there. And. Get. That. Pearl. Do. You. Understand?” Without another look back at her clearly uncomfortable mate, she swam off, thrashing her tail as quickly as possible. She was going to be first! She was!

Taigon
User Image

Taigon stared in awe from his mother to his father. It was still so weird to see them both together… He himself was their child, but he was the product of the spirits, given to his mother without his father knowing. Even now, Taigon didn’t have a good grasp on Apatite. The stallion was so… serious. Silent. And apparently, such a pushover with Cyllene. Didn’t he know he’d get absolutely nowhere like that? Idiot. Besides, there was treasure involved. Maybe if he got it first, he could impress a pretty mare with it.

He grinned. Now THAT was an enticing thought.

Apatite
User Image

Apatite gave a deep sigh and squared his shoulders. He’d fought tooth and nail to finally be with Cyllene, and he’d be damned if he failed her now. After all, in sickness and in health right? Well, this was her sickness, evidently.

Cyllene
User Image

There it was. So close. She propelled herself forwards. Something was wrong – why did it feel so numb all of a sudden? But she had to get there. She struggled onwards, millimetre by millimetre. ALMOST. So close. There it was. Her head broke the surface, a thin layer of ice cracking as she head-butted it with her full power. That pearl had to be hers. Absolutely, had to be. Why was she moving so slowly? There was the pearl. Just out of her reach. She pushed harder with her tail. One inch closer. Another push. Half an inch. One final push… And nothing. She didn’t move. What? She thrashed again, craning her neck forwards. No. She couldn’t get it. She was… Stuck? Oh. Oh no. Not with that pearl right there. “ARGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” She screamed in frustration, it was just out of her grasp. How could this be? “NO, IT. WILL. BE. MINE.” But her struggles were to no avail, for she was truly stuck.

Taigon
User Image

He followed his mother, swimming as fast as possible, still gazing side-ways at his father from time to time. This was surreal. As he gazed around, he noticed other seathi around too. So, they had also heard the news. But… something was wrong. He slowed his pace. Why so many seathi, and so little motion? He drew to a halt, realising that the seathi higher up didn’t seem to be moving. “Uhh… guys?” But both his parents had already swam on ahead. Oh. Crap. “GUYS, COME BACK.” He swam forwards as fast as he could, determined to pull them back to the safer depths.

Apatite
User Image

Cyllene had pressed on ahead, he could only see her bubble trail behind, which he followed as closely as possible. The water only grew colder and colder. Shivers began to run up his body. This seemed really weird, why had someone placed a pearl up there and then told them about it? But there was no time to think on it as he swam, faster and faster, following his mate.

And, suddenly, he found his pace slowing. He struggled onwards, pulling up next to Cyllene. “What’s… are we… frozen?!?” He turned to her, his face one of panic. “This is bad, this is. Really. Really. Bad.”

Taigon
User Image

Taigon sped up, racing as fast as he could. He could see them up ahead. He tried to yell again, get them to turn around, but it was no use. Just a bit further, he could make it. He moved closer and closer. And then he didn’t move at all. Oh. Dear. Fear convulsed through his body. “H-HAAALP. HELP US.”

Daire was attracted to the sound of people calling for help. The strange thing was that it was awfully close to shore for people to be calling out like that in his opinion. He turned to Braxen. "Any idea what might be going on?"

The dolphin gave a click and whistle before diving down to rocket back up, arcing out of the water to take a look. He splashed down awkwardly, since the water was quickly getting shallow--and quite cold.

"Seathi seem to be stuck near the shore. There's something pretty shiny over there. A pearl maybe?" Braxen wagged his torso back and forth. "It doesn't seem a good idea to go over there.

"Probably not." Daire agreed, though he couldn't help but drift closer. If he started to get caught in the spreading ice, he would need to rely on Braxen to pull him free. Not a strong swimmer was he.

Gyokuro
User Image

If there was a bad situation to be found, Gyokuro would indubitably wind up trapped within its icy vortex. In that case, literally, an icy vortex. Of ice. And… vortex? Well, certainly a lot of ice. There he had been, enjoying his final freedom from that awful fish pond that he’d been kept prisoner in for so long. He’d been minding his own business, just swimming along, stretching his fins, when he’d seen a large bunch of seathi swimming around. Well, that was an odd sight, right? He had to check it out. Nice going, Gyokuro. He mentally reprised himself. Now he appeared to be stuck in an even more confined space than last time. He, literally, was encased in a giant block of ice. Along with seemingly half the population of the ocean. He shook his head, trying to reposition the giant teacup on his mane so that he could see. Was there anyone around? Could someone offer their assistance? He could hear the yells of his fellow seathi, but would someone be able to rescue them? “H-HEEEEEELP!” He joined in. After all, what else could he do?

Eclipse
User Image

Eclipse, or to use his full name (as he was wont to do), Soft Petals Dancing Through The Eclipsing Night, was incredibly frustrated. Not only did he appear to be stuck, which was unfortunate and quite an inconvenience, but no one would listen to him over the shrieks of his fellow kind. This was preposterous! He frowned, tapping his hoof anxiously against the ice. “Exc-” He was interrupted by a loud yell. “Why, how rude!” He proclaimed, giving them an affronted glare. “Excuse me.” There, no interruptions. “But my name is Soft Petals Da-” Another scream. He pursed his lips. “MY NAME.” He annunciated his voice very clearly. “Is Soft Petals Dancing Th-” Okay. That was it. Clearly being polite would not do amongst such riff-raff. So, he would have to… Stoop to their level. He shuddered. “H-HAAAAAAAAAAAALP MEEEEEEEEEEE”

Iolite Chrysocolla
User Image

Iolite fretted around nervously, trying to make sure she had all her things. A pouch in which to collect the pearl? Check. Some emergency food rations? Check. Her mate? Check. There wasn't much else that she thought she might need, but still there was something about this journey that made her distinctly uncomfortable. It was an odd urge, a dark tingle running down her back, that somehow filled her with dread when she should be feeling joy. After all, treasure retrieval was something she had trained herself to do fairly often - it really shouldn't cause her so many problems.

She herself was part of the Grail herd, and unfortunately treasure was the main currency of the underwater pod. Those with the most treasure were the most influential, matriarchs and patriarchs whose voices were judged to be important and wise, entrusted to handle the most important matters of the herd. Iolite had never enjoyed the treasure gathering aspect, there was something inherently dangerous about it that had always frightened her off, but it was necessary. Since she had found, Vanilla, everything had become significantly easier. Not only did Vanilla have an excellent eye for business, but she had pushed her to learn an alternative strategy - crafting accessories out of the treasure, in exchange for more treasure of course. It was hard work, but she was good at it. Sometimes they just needed the raw materials though, and this was one such time. "Ready to go?"

Vanilla
User Image

Vanilla gave her mate a comforting nuzzle, knowing how anxious she could get about these treasure gathering forays. It was amazing, she thought to herself, how much Io could overcome when she wanted to. She was such a brave, loving soul. A gentle tug in her heart brought a smile to her face, even now after all this time she still felt joy and awe at the sight of her. How lucky was she to have found such a wonderful being? "It'll be okay, trust me." She gently reassured her, leaning her head against Iolite's shoulder for a moment before pulling away gently.

And it would be. She'd done all the risk calculations. If Vanilla was anything, it was a great analyst of situations, and this appeared to be almost routine. Rumours of a beautiful, highly sought-after, pearl - so luminous it was said to almost look like a miniature moon. This was probably an overstatement, she had judged, such things often were. And it wasn't in some enclosed space, but up further on the surface. A difficult place to set a trap, she had concluded. After all, they would have all three dimensions in which to escape, it shouldn't be an issue. What this pearl was doing on the surface had intrigued her, of course, but it wasn't uncommon for someone to start a 'challenge' for fun, they were a huge herd of treasure-loving, slightly crazy, seathi. Nothing should go wrong here.

Iolite Chrysocolla
User Image

The two seathi set out, swimming side by side. They took a leisurely pace, knowing that they weren't the fastest of swimmers, but they would get there eventually. As they grew closer to the surface, they began to notice more and seathi around in their own groups. It appeared the news had spread better than she had expected. Iolite raised a single eyebrow, judging their chances. Still not non-existent, she decided, after all they were still here. Perhaps there was some trick to getting the pearl, there had to be some reason so many seathi were just swimming around in this bit. She pressed onwards, cautiously winding between her fellow seathi.

Vanilla
User Image

Vanilla was only a small seathi, and although she could keep pace with Iolite easily enough, the effects of the cold hit her much earlier on. At first she didn't think too much of it, just a stray shiver here or there, but as they swam further onwards she began to feel like something wasn't quite right. Just how cold was it today? Still, she didn't want to spook her mate, and she certainly didn't want to reveal how weak she was being - she'd already had to be rescued by her multiple times because she wasn't such a strong swimmer. There was a good chance she just felt so cold because she was tired out from the journey. But slowly her muscles grew more and more rigid, the chill permeating through her thin skin, past layers of insulation, sending strong shudders wracking through her small frame. Her teeth began to chatter, "I-I-Io, I th-think s-s-something is wrong." They clacked together violently, her movement involuntary. Her whole body felt strange - both numb and yet incredibly tense at the same time. This didn't seem like a good sign.

Iolite Chrysocolla
User Image

Iolite pulled up immediately as soon as she heard Vanilla. She'd been so nervous about all the other seathi that she hadn't even notice her plight. "Oh, Vanilla, are you okay?" She swam closer, pressing her warm body up against her mate. It was cold, she noticed, very cold. She stayed still for a moment, noticing shards of ice in the water around them, trying to lend what body heat she could. Maybe they should turn back? But unknown to them, the water had grown just cold enough to start freezing around them, and it was not until she tried to pull away from Vanilla that she realised something was truly wrong. "V-Van? A-are we stuck?" Fear shot through her, her pupils flaring with panic as nerves seized her body. She fought the constraining feeling, trying to keep the ensuing terror under control. "H-Help!" She called out, her legs going numb as the adrenaline began to course through her.

Unaccountably, though the small bird-like creature did not display any overt signs of aggression, Xochitl was suddenly filled with a sense of dread. Perhaps it was Indominus's scent on the creature. Perhaps it was, rather, the fact that she herself was trapped. Being so close to the shore never made anyone truly happy, at least in her experience. The others cried out for help, and that did not inspire confidence. How many of them were stuck? She chose not to reveal the existence of the pearl, even though it was blatantly apparent, for she did not wish to lose it.

"It's very cold. We must have been swimming too near the surface." Water, of course, froze when cold. Right now the ice was not terribly thick. It was only that she and her fellows were rather small. Smaller than she'd like, given that even her rather formidable tail did nothing to break the ice. My, what sharp teeth the bird had. If it was a bird after all. She thwapped her tail against the ice, focusing on the same point. Maybe with time she'd just get a little crack. That would be a start.

Eclipse
User Image

Upon seeing the bird approaching, Eclipse had quickly ceased his incessant mewling. It was unsettling enough having to resort to such uncouth methods of communication, but to have someone actually see him doing it? No, that wouldn’t do at all. He craned his neck forwards, trying to listen in on the conversation between it and another seathi – a seemingly headstrong mare adorned with bright pink hair. No time like the present to make introductions, he decided quickly, knowing that he couldn’t just sit here and be ignored for this entire time. “Excuse me, Miss and uhh… I apologise, I don’t know how to address you, my feathered comrade! My name is S-” Another cry for help interrupted his speech once more. Sigh. “Eclipse, my name is Eclipse.” He cleared his throat, trying not to show his intense irritation, conveniently forgetting that but moments ago he was yelling just as loudly. “I would like to second that I, too, was simply swimming near here, having seen this large congregation of fellow seathi. Who could have possibly predicted this dratted weather that has trapped us so?” He remained blatantly oblivious to the very large, and very shiny, pearl sitting plainly within his view.

Gyokuro
User Image

Gyokuro perked his ears up as some of the nearby seathi started to converse, rather than to scream pitifully into the void. That certainly seemed more productive, especially as no one but this strange bird had apparently paid any heed to their cries for assistance. He shuddered slightly, not quite sure he enjoyed that notion. Would they be stuck here until the ice thawed out? How long would that take? He gave a resigned sigh, casting his gaze downwards at the encroaching ice. His eyes scanned for any structural weaknesses, but the longer he scanned the more he became aware that he had no idea what signs he was actually meant to be looking for.

He shifted uncomfortably, trying to get into a more relaxed position. This was significantly smaller than his previous fish pond, he realised with a panicked sadness. What, exactly, was a seathi to do in such a situation? Only one thing for it - attempt to formulate a plan with his fellow prison-mates, he decided. “Yes, hello!” He gave an awkward chuckle, trying his best to throw on a fake smile. “I’m Gyo. Do we… ahh… do we know why we’re all up here? I’m a bit out of touch with this whole fiasco.”

Kealoha
User Image

“Are you idiots really so dense?” Kealoha’s voice rang out clearly across the ice, her tone somehow cutting through the air with a surprising clarity but at the same time appearing completely nonchalant. A certain air hung around her, one of confidence and self-control. She lay near the surface, one shoulder propped up onto the surrounding ice, her pose relaxed and casual. Although she was clearly just as trapped as the rest of them, she was calm and collected, as though this was exactly the situation she had expected. Everything was going according to plan, if you believed her outward countenance. “You can’t seriously be telling me that the two of you managed to get stuck here for no apparent reason?”

She raised one eyebrow, giving them a satisfied smirk. “Oh, you are serious?” The confusion and affront dancing in the stallions' eyes gave them away. Her soft laugh tinkled around them, but it didn’t necessarily seem dismissive. If anything, it spoke of a confident allure, designed to draw people in and make them listen to her. “Well, I think that one might have some idea as to why we’re all here, don’t you?” She turned her eyes upon the black mare, Xochitl, giving her a quick wink. “Perhaps you’d care to enlighten the rest of us?”

Anxious Goat

User Image Spirits above how she hated the cold weather that winter brought in. The predatory mare let loose a throaty snarl from her toothy maw, brows creased in a scowl due to the complete displeasure to her situation. She hated the snow, she hated the chilling winds, and what she hated the most, above all other things, was how little there was to eat. Sure, there were the few times she had spot a hare or some small woodland creature stupid enough to pop its head out and reveal itself to her, but there was never enough meat on their small bodies to feed her. Takala glanced down to the feathered tail that was hanging down before her chest and she rolled her eyes in irritation. Not only did she have to feed herself, she now had the great inconvenience of hunting for two during the winter.

Her.... companion - oh how the word made her cringe - was out of commission with the cold weather. Anu was unable to do much else aside from sleep and rely on Takala's body heat to stay just awake enough that he could talk to her. She took another step, purposefully making her stride rougher than usual to jolt the feathered snake awake. "Get up. I'm tired of carrying you. You're warm enough to move." Her voice was about as frigid as the winter air and her demeanor was hardly as receptive as a blazing fire. He was nothing more than a tool to her. She didn't mind him staying with her and allowing him to feed on her scraps. He made hunting a slightly easier task, especially when he was able to coil around the prey she had injured with her many claws and teeth and ensure that her hunt would be unable to escape.

Anu begrudgingly removed himself from her backside, ruffling his feathers as he sorted himself out to fly; as if he would even allow himself to touch the snow covered ground. He had had the unpleasant experience of being dumped into the snow after Takala had gotten particularly tired of him lounging around. Apparently the rude awakening had been a lesson on listening to her the first time, and oh how it had worked. "Sssstill as cold as ever I ssssee. I'm sssssurprised you don't enjoy thisss cold weather more." The Quetzal mused. He didn't care if the mare heard him, if he flew high enough, she would be unable to harm him. Plus, he had already learned that if Takala were annoyed at him, he just had to leave till she found something to kill and their odd partnership would resume. He continued to fly beside her, respecting the silence between them. They weren't much for talking, but that was fine. He never did care for much conversation anyways.

Then they heard it. Off in the distance, ever so faint that the untrained ear could have missed it, but there it was: a chance for a meal. The cries of help meant injury or some sort of difficulty; the cries meant that Takala could begin to hunt. The mare began to move a little faster, her toothy grin glinting in the sun in utter glee. Oh how she lived for these moments.

It wasn't much longer till Takala found herself standing at the edge of frozen waters, Anu resuming his regular spot on her shoulders, a multitude of seathi frozen in place, and it took everything she could to hide how pleased she was. Besides, she was more concerned about the feathered pest that was standing on the shore, talking to her soon-to-be-meal. "Scram, Dark-meat." She eyed the bird, glaring down at the intruder. She wasn't one who enjoyed being watched while she ate. "Find some other soon-to-be carrion to lurk over."

Cyllene
User Image

Cyllene stared at the pearl, then at the other seathi nearby, then back at the pearl. Urgh. There was no way she could reach it, not stuck like this. She twitched her tail in irritation, grudgingly tearing her gaze away from its luminous beauty. It was so perfectly round, with such a wondrous sheen. It would have made the perfect addition to her hoard. A deep, fervent desire to hold it overtook her. More than a desire, an obsession, a compulsion, a basic necessity of life. She knew, having seen it, that there was no way she could be satisfied until she owned it.

But, alas, more interlopers were approaching. And they were not bound in the ice as she. Oh. No. They couldn’t be after the pearl could they? An almost nervous sweat cropped up on her forehead, defying all logic that stated she should be freezing cold right in that moment. But then the creature spoke. Cyllene wasn’t well known for her patience, or her charisma, or her general smarts. However, she was ridiculously brave, and very proud, and very unaware of the consequences of her actions. “Excuse me, did you just call me carrion? Me? Carrion? You couldn’t touch me if you wanted, bird-legs.” She rolled her eyes. “If you want to eat someone, you certainly wouldn’t be able to get someone as amazing as me.” Her eyes drifted away to the other seathi, judging their sizes, before settling on one of the smaller ones – her son. Well, yes, he probably would get eaten pretty easily. He just didn’t have her bravado, or her skills in improvised combat. Unfortunately, she certainly didn’t have the inhibition control to stop her mouth from running away with her thoughts. “If you wanted to eat, you’d want to start with someone smaller, less fight.” Her eyes didn’t stray from her son. “In other words, not me!”

Everything would be okay, he had to... he had to look after his family. He had something to protect now. Taking a deep, shaky breath, he struggled to rein in his emotions. "She doesn't mean it, Taigon." He set himself in a defensive pose. "I wouldn't let you get eaten."

User Image Buddy heard someone yelling and maybe even splashing. He wasn't sure if he would make it in time. Dashing out of the woods, the stallion looked to the water. There was a bird, a mare and a lot of the seathi around, well frozen partly in the water. This was not good for the normally gentle male. He shifted from hoof to hoof, unsure of how to go about helping without hurting any of the small ones.

Letting out a long, deep breath, Buddy made his way to the shore. "How can I be of help?" He looked more to the seathi, but took note of the others around them.

Primrose was not dealing well with the winter. Between her short coat and lithe body, she was meant for the spring and could hardly wait until the snow began to melt under the sun.

She was traveling about the woods, trying to keep under the cover of the trees when she heard ear-splitting cries for help. Perking her ears, she turned towards the racket and began to make her way through the trees. Soon, trees turned to open land and the cold dirt turned to sand underneath her paws. With some great alarm she became witness to several small Seathi caught in the frozen ocean! She didn't even know the ocean could freeze up until that point and was very distraught to see so much fear before her.

She approached the scene, coming to stand beside a large stallion as she gazed out onto the water. She was vaguely aware that the stallion had just asked the group how they might be of service and Primrose's eyebrows came together in concentration.

"Do any of you know how thick the ice that holds you is?" She raised her voice so that others nearby might be able to hear her. "I-If it is thick enough to hold my weight, maybe I could see about cracking the ice around each of you, so you can get back into the water...?" Primrose was no hero, but she couldn't think of a better idea and she couldn't let these Seathi continue in such discomfort and fear!

Pearl got herself stuck more often than she would care to admit, thanks to her giant shell. Whether it be getting marooned by the traitorous ocean waves and getting stuck shell first in the sand, or getting stuck in coral crevices or any other means, she would do it and not at all on purpose.

Today hadn't been on purpose either. Unlike all the others, Pearl was only there because everyone else seemed to be. She was a social Seathi and liked being where others were. That instinct to be near others had finally got her into trouble, it seemed, since she was unceremoniously frozen into the water and gazing about her at the others.

Many were screaming, others were looking at the larger Soquili in fear. Pearl just stared. She did not fear for her life, because she could just curl up into her shell until only her hooves stuck out and wait for the water to thaw. She didn't worry about the ominous bird or the newly arrived clawed Soquili, because her shell would protect her against everything. Now, it was just a waiting game, though she hoped that she wouldn't have to wait too long after she got hungry.

The more the large Soquili spoke, the more convinced Xochitl became that these others meant her and her fellows harm. Well, Xochi was not going to stick around for that! Except... she quite literally could not leave things as they were. She was actually stuck, and the sticking had been far easier than the un-sticking seemed to be. 'Carrion' had an awful, familiar ring to it. One of her fellow seathi addressed her, and she craned her neck to try to see him. In fact, several had spoken up, and she found it quite necessary to reply. "There's a pearl. Seems like almost everyone wanted it, and it's sort of useless now."

Nothing more than their private torment. The little bird thing would probably take the pearl after everything they'd been through. "The weather has been unseasonably cold, even out here." To freeze the ocean so close to the Kawani lands was simply... simply unheard of! Perhaps there was more than mere cold at work here, something far more sinister? She didn't know, but what she did know was that they were in trouble.

The arrival of a few more large Soquili didn't hurt matters, exactly, except that they were probably making targets of themselves. When one of the other seathi spoke up, saying that this mare didn't mean what she'd said, she almost twisted about in spite of that ice. Whether he intended to soothe someone, it just wasn't likely that that hulk of a creature didn't mean them harm! "I doubt she came to help us," she put in a trifle acidly. Maybe it was the ice getting to her, or maybe she simply felt defiant in the face of all the danger they faced. Either way, she'd forgotten to keep quiet.

However, the newcomers were talking now, and she wanted to think that maybe they could at least distract the big one. "The ice isn't thick, at least not right here, but it's thick enough that even hitting it with my tail is doing nothing. Maybe even if it can't hold your weight you could both step out a bit... maybe some of it would crack?"

Finnigan had thrashed and thrashed and thrashed -- but it had done no good. He was stuck and there was no getting out of it. Like others who had been drawn to the spot, he had wanted the magnificent pearl. He hadn't wanted it to keep, of course, but to give away. Surely, Huge could appreciate such a token, couldn't he? Maybe the pink usdia would be able to keep it as a token of his . . . of his what? His friendship? His affection? His . . . love? While he didn't know exactly what his vibrant landbound companion felt, Finnigan had simply wanted to share such a treasure with him. To give him a gift of the ocean might mean that when Huge traveled on land, he could keep it and think of him, or remember him by. But now, in all his greed, he found himself stuck and cold.

He shivered within the ice, panting from cold, even as larger soquili made their way out. Some of them did not look friendly. He couldn't quite tear his gaze away from Indominus and Takala. The both had the strangest set of claws -- claws that looked perfect to digging into seathi flesh. The grey one had spikes, too, and neither of them looked friendly. This was not good.

He'd never get his Hugo the shiny ocean present now. Furthermore, even if he didn't become fish food, he would surely freeze if they weren't able to escape. But maaybe, just maybe, if he could draw them out the combined weight of the heavier soquili would be enough to break the ice? Or he could be enough of a distraction for the others to do something. Then again, maybe he'd just more quickly usher their doom, but . . . but he wanted to help. And if that meant getting eaten first, maybe that was what was needed. "Come and get me then if you're hungry!" He squeaked.

Thrashing around as hard as he could manage, he gave another desperate attempt to free himself. It did not work. "I'd take you all down if this ice wasn't here!" He threatened, and quite hollowly too.
