Katrina Halloran sat at the vanity she had wrestled up the stairs to her apartment after finding it sitting on the side of a curb, left out for discard. The wood was dinged and scratched with residue from stickers that someone had tried to peel off still clinging to the finish. It needed work, sure, but if she was being realistic with anyone after the way the the past few weeks had gone? She needed work too.
"Good thing you didn't have to work today," she murmured as she leaned in, gently prodding at the cut at the corner of her mouth where a fist had caught her a little harder than she'd expected during one of her many recent skirmishes. She'd been more reckless than usual lately in ways that weren't good for anyone. It wasn't smart. Nothing she'd done to handle any of the mess lately had been smart and it was time for things to change-- Starting with her.
Kat let her hair down from the towel it had been wrapped in, fluffing it dry before clipping it up out of the way so she could put her face on. Foundation first, moisturizing as well as giving her a base to start out with. She followed up with a concealer, running a line of it beneath each of her eyes in an attempt to fade out the racoon rings that had been haunting her since she'd stopped sleeping well, snagging one of her larger brushes to dust a powder on to set everything once she'd finished contouring.
Her eyes were next-- Black eyeliner drew out the color, framing her eyes and making them seem brighter in the darkness. Eye shadow took a little bit longer to decide on. There were so many colors and without knowing what outfit she was going to put on she couldn't really color match. "Basic smokey it is." She could match just about anything to that, setting to work once she'd pulled out the specific palette she wanted to work with.
When it came to the mascara she paused, trying not to think about how long it took to scrub it off her face when it started to run and how much time she had put into that over the last month. "Waterproof." Kat flashed herself a smirk in the mirror, ignoring that the expression didn't quite make it up to her eyes. She'd worry about that later; for now it was probably all for the best that she was a little bit more serious as she brought the rounded brush to her eyes, curling her lashes and drawing them out with the mascara.
Blinking as she finished she gave herself another look in the mirror, a more sincere grin catching her lips. "Much better. Now... Lipstick."
Katrina drew open the drawer, listening to her lipsticks roll and rattle before settling still. They clicked and clacked together as she nudged them around, looking for a very specific color... "Hah!" She was starting to run low on her favorite pink lipstick-- A shopping trip, that's what you need.
Yes, that was exactly what she needed. Makeup, shopping, lunch with a friend... And a haircut. "By the time we're done no one in DC will recognize the mess you've been, Kat, darling."
