The landslide had eventually came to an end - Tethys had been left without breath and for a while he had simply lain against the now settled rocks and closed his eyes. He had always assumed that he was a fit individual, but even he found himself exhausted. Perhaps it was both the adrenaline, the impromptu assault from smaller rocks, and the pace in which he had been required to keep moving... but the combination was not a pleasant one and he could do no more than still himself for a brief period while he recovered.
Eventually he did move though, slowly clambering up the slope that had been left by the rocks. It seemed a little to conveniently, deliberately orchestrated so that he would follow a set path, and yet a part of him seemed to realise that if he didn't follow it, he would never get out. Whoever lurked within these caves, whatever shadows seemed to be toying with him, they knew exactly how to navigate and he would not have put it passed them to make his escape impossible.
...Unless he played by their rules.
Thus he pulled himself up the slope and gave off a slight snort of amusement as his paws touched upon the more firm ledge that awaited him. Sure enough, he had come face to face with a tunnel and while a turn seemed to occur almost immediately and kept his next destination shrouded from view, he knew that this where he had to go.
Shaking his head, he complied and began to trace his way through the winding tunnel to the next of the games...Words: 272

The heat would have been unbearable to most. It had only been over the course of years of exposure that the dark lion had grown accustomed to it. The smell, the heat, the almost suffocating weight of the air within these particular caverns. One might have gone so far as to call this location hell on earth, it certainly looked like it...
Adar settled himself comfortably in the shadows, there was no hiding from the heat in here and even from where he was, he could smell the brimstone. He certainly wasn't close enough to be overwhelmed by its toxic nature, but it would have been a considerable distraction if he hadn't been so used to the putrid smell. There was no doubt in his mind that the youth would find it a distraction, but it wasn't the smell that would be the pale lions major issue.
...Oh no, that would be the water.
What seemed to be perfectly normal water at a glance, was clearly something to give considerable distance to. If Tethys lost his footing here, then Adar could expect to be fishing very little of him out of there by the time he reached him. Or if he did reach him in time, the boy wouldn't last more than a few hours on this mortal earth before he finally succumbed to the extensive burns on his body.
There might not have been fire in this cavern, but there didn't really need to be either, the water did a fine job on its own...Words: 256

"Oh my god..." Tethys murmured faintly as he strode in to the cave and was immediately hit by the warmth. The air was thin here, or rather the breathable air was thin, the air itself pressed down on him with considerable force; and that heat. He could scarcely see in front of him, and yet he knew that he had entered an area that was far worse than anywhere else he had been thrown. Oh the previous encounters may have attempted to suffocate him but there had been no obstacles standing before him.
...But here?
He merely stood on the ledge and narrowed his eyes, attempting to identify a safer path. Various juts, boulders and ledges seemed to exist here and there with strategically placed 'planks' at distinct locations. He knew in those moments that this was perhaps a location that was used regularly, the path was simply too well laid out to have been thrown together haphazardly, but that didn't necessarily mean that he could use it successfully.
Truthfully, that didn't even mean it hadn't been laden with traps.
Based on the fact he had been assaulted twice by 'landslides', there was a distinct possibility that this had simply been constructed on a whim. In fact, he wouldn't have put it passed the shadow that was no doubt lurking unseen. Oh yes, he knew that the shadow was there, he could feel it... he just couldn't work out where it was yet.
It was after considerable thought that he began to slowly but surely make his way across the expanse, each paw step tempered as he tapped upon each surface to ensure that it could support his weight.
...Suffice it to say, that this was going to take a considerable amount of time, longer if he began to succumb to the heat and smell.Words: 305 Total Words (Tethys): 577

The significance of the challenge ahead had not been lost on the youth, but Adar knew from experience that hesitation would not serve him well here. While it would secure Tethys safe passage for a time, there would be certain obstacles that would require a more decisive and risky approach. You see, the black male had deliberately constructed this course with the very things Tethys wished to pursue in mind.
...They didn't play fair, and they exploited every hesitation.
They were pack animals and the moment that Tethys paused to consider his next step they would strike. Adar knew that in order to survive, the youth would need to learn to make his decisions extremely quickly and enact them just as fast. Thus, as he heard the first of what would be many 'snaps', he closed his eyes. This would be the place in which the youth would fall if he couldn't work out how best to scramble across the expanse.
He would open his eyes every now and then to inspect the white lion's progress, though for the most part, the youth hadn't achieved anything of significance. Truthfully it was the gasps, yells and on several occasions expletives that had caused him to check up on the boy. If there was noise, that meant he was alive.
...Or that was Adar's assumption until he heard a much louder yell.
His eyes snapped open and he moved from his vantage point having lost view of the younger lion, only to see him hanging by his claws from one obstacle that he had misjudged.
Now where would he go from here?
Adar's lips pursed into a thin line and he once again took his seat, his interest now invested in the child's progress again. He would either be writing a missive to the expectant Justicar, or he would be impressed once more. Regardless, that leg and those gashes certainly didn't look terribly healthy...He'd picked up a few injuries since Adar had last glanced his way.Words: 334 Total Words (Adar): 590
