This was the second time that he had ever heard the phantom speak, and yet he had addressed someone waiting nearby. Tethys hadn't taken the opportunity to look around him, to take in precisely where he was... The familiarity was certainly there but he had been so focused on his pursuit that the significance of his location had been lost on him. It was only as he leapt up on to the ledge and found his gaze upon the orange and black lion that it dawned on him.
He had been led here.
To say he had several questions was an understatement, to say that he wasn't angry, even more so. He was furious as the realisation hit, the phantom had vanished and in its place lay the same vague lion that he had encountered a number of times before. Each time the elder lion had been non-committal, had claimed neither guilt or innocence, and yet here he now lay with a serene expression upon his face.
All this time he had assumed that he had been wrong, that he had been paranoid and that the caves had all coincidentally looked the same because, well, they were caves. Now he stood in the very same one it had all started, guided by the now missing shadow through an array of tunnel systems until he could once again step into the light.
"All right," he spat. "Now I have questions."Words: 239

His acknowledgement of Adar's arrival and then disappearance had been brief; this was always how they had expected this to go. While a Justicar or a Sleeper might be prepared for the brutality they would be subjected to, Tethys had been largely unprepared. However when he had chosen to take his fight directly to the phantoms rather than to leave them to them, he had put himself and others into the firing line.
...It was something that Destati could not permit.
Thus the Sleepers had made contingencies and one by one they had guided him; some spoke in riddles, others simply provided direction...and Adar; well Adar had been left with the same jobs he was often left with. Adar'malik had always done the dirty work among the collective and his efforts were greatly appreciated, but his presence would do Gideon no favours at present. Gideon had therefore conceded that it was wise for the Sleeper to make a quick exit until such times as he was ready to be summoned back... This would at least buy Gideon some time to soothe the ruffled feathers.
"Settle yourself," Gideon replied to the snarling lion and motioned for him to take a seat. He made no move to stand himself, maintaining the same non-hostile demeanour that should have been so familiar to the younger lion by now. "I am aware you have several questions, but before they can be answered you will need to regain your composure," he pursed his lips as he inspected the Captain. Tethys was utterly filthy, he surmised Havase had finally provided guidance, either that or the younger lion had simply absorbed the information at last.

He was the epitome of calm and collected, even now in the face of his anger Gideon remained still. In fact, he had the audacity to request that Tethys calm down. How could he possibly calm down when he was face to face with the one who had attempted to kill him? Yet as he continued to watch the elder lion, an individual who simply gazed back at him patiently, he found that his anger eventually began to subside. It wasn't a quick process, it still simmered below the surface, but he could think more clearly.
Here, stood before him, was a lion who had played with him like a puppet on strings. If he was going to receive answers it seemed that he would have to dance to the same tune again, at least for a time. While he might remain angry, he found a manner in which to control his temper and slowly but surely settled himself into a sitting position.
...Even as he collected himself it gave him a rare opportunity to gaze out of the opening that Gideon always seemed to be faced towards. It was of no surprise to him to discover that the elder lion could see almost everything below him. From the very beginning he really had seem Tethys's struggles in their entirety.
"What was that thing," he said at last as he took a measured breath. "And what in all that was holy possessed you to pick me for your games?" he demanded.
"What did I ever do to you to give you reason to try and kill me?" he snapped and then shook his head. "Why?"Words: 275 Total Words (Tethys): 514

"His name is Adar'Malik," Gideon corrected Tethys as the lion finally settled himself to a reasonable level. He wasn't completely calm, but he had begun to exhibit some measure of control and would therefore be rewarded for complying with the older lions request. Nevertheless there would be several pieces of information that would have to wait until Adar could safely return - it wasn't that Gideon didn't think Adar could protect himself... in fact he was more than capable of doing so, but on this occasion they were both in agreement that the child needed to live.
"And he is perhaps one of the greatest allies you will have," he added, though he refrained from clarifying precisely what this meant. He could already tell that the vagueness of his response had struck a nerve in the already impatient captain's mind. "It was also never our intention to kill you, or rather it was not our initial intention, we had all rather hoped that you would survive -"
He paused.
"Fortunately it appears that you did, you have been complimented on how stubborn you are. You have a tenacity that we expect from our own kind, one that is often gained through extensive training, and yet you appear to have a natural disposition towards it," he raised a brow, and then quickly raised a paw before the disgruntled lion could ask further questions.
"Now if you would be so kind as to maintain the control you are currently exhibiting...we will answer the rest of your questions," Gideon murmured and rose to his feet. Striding towards the opening he gazed down and gave a nod, while something seemed to stir beneath.
"You are now entitled to the truth." Gideon finished.Words: 286 Total Words (Gideon): 576
