They were making progress, much to his relief. Several of the warbands and their captains had managed to establish footholds and scout out viable locations for camps. On this occasion his own warband had elected to scout out this particular reason. There were several requirements that needed to be made in order for the lion to be satisfied with the location.
For a start, it needed to be uninhabited by large felines, or at least felines who had an inclination to stick their noses in to everything. If it was inhabited, then the felines in question would need to possess a measure of restraint. The Vikings wouldn't be here long, the moment they made progress and tracked down their quarry, the sooner they would begin to move again... But the fact still remained.
No inhabitants unless peaceful. No inhabitants unless they kept to themselves.
No ways to stealth in unannounced, all regions must be visible from a variety of guard posts...
As this was on the edge of a forest the Captain had several concerns, but for now he would place trust in his scouts as he proceeded with his own path through the area. Given it was daylight they were perfectly safe, so he didn't expect much in the way of drama for now!

If Tethys was looking for no drama and no nose-sticking felines, he certainly was about to have his hopes dashed. Thankfully Bidii was not an entire pride, but she was a very difficult goddess to get rid of if she happened to notice any amount of desire and drive coming off a creature. It was as if she could smell those that exuded her domain without her being around to influence them, and those were the ones that she sought out. She had been on Tethys' trail for just a day or so, having noticed a bit of a pull in a certain direction a few suns back. The closer she had drawn to his group, the more she became aware of his zeal for...well. What, she wasn't too sure yet. He was searching for something, that much was clear, and it was his driving force. Surely he could use a bit of help from the goddess of zeal herself! It was with a rush of wind and a flurry of wings that she landed a few paces before Tethys, her scarf and mane whipping around in the updraft she had caused while landing.Once they settled she looked down at the mortal with a grin, eyes bright and wings still situating themselves on her back. "Hello," she said, her voice bright and yet somehow very, very immobile.

For a brief instant he had thought it might be his mother. She had a tendency to arrive unannounced, but the force in which Bidii had landed was quite unrecognisable. Instead, he was force to blink several times before flicking his gaze back towards whomever had landed in his path. What he was met with, was most certainly a much larger lioness than his mother. In fact she was roughly the same size as Blasaz, and based on those wings he quickly concluded he'd encountered another god.
...Or rather she had encountered him.
By the manner which she had landed he could surmise that she was probably intentionally looking for him, though for what that might be, he had no idea. It wasn't as if he generally had divine beings drop on his head on a regular basis if he happened to exclude the parental one. The resulting response was a raised brow and a long stare as he attempted to discern precisely why he had been so enthusiastically interrupted.
"Hello," he responded at last. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?" he asked curiously. He was half expecting her to inform him that this was her forest and as such, would he be so terribly kind as to scurry along!

The lion's reaction was good - not terrified, not vengeful. He had clearly seen a god before and wasn't terribly startled by her size or extra appendages, which had finally found a comfortable home against her back. The question was hesitant, questioning, a million things said without actually being vocalized. Bidii gave a little laugh and moved forward another step, not meaning to crowd him but wanting to draw closer. "Very polite," she said, tilting her head a bit as she observed the male. Her bright blue eyes focused on his vibrant green and for a moment she said and did nothing. Yes, this was certainly the lion that she had been getting rather strong vibes from. "Your passion," she finally said, tossing her head a bit to get her mane out of her eyes - it had fallen in front of one after she had tilted her head - and gave him another large grin. "Your drive. Your insatiable desire to...do...whatever it is you're doing! I'd like to know," she added, sitting down before him, ready to listen to whatever it was that he was so zealous about. He had been moving at a good clip for a mortal so perhaps he was searching for something. Or maybe he was running from something? Either way, she was eager to know.

Evidently he had somehow passed some sort of test, bonus points for him in that respect. He would have given himself a round of applause if he'd actually known he was participating in something to that effect but instead, he merely regarded the goddess with continuing curiosity.
She hadn't completely bridged the gap between them, but she didn't appear to be leaving any time soon and despite his need to move, it was unlikely that he was going to persuade her to step aside. While he might have been able to avoid the queries of mortals, he knew better than to assume he could outrun the curiosity of a deity...particularly one who just seemed to know what he wanted. Or rather, it was almost as if she could sense that drive within him and was feeding off it.
Curious, he had to wonder what she represented. Perhaps she fed off a particular aspect of ones psyche?
"It's a hunt," he said at last and pursed his lips. Just how much did he want to tell this goddess? He wasn't sure just how much the divine liked to meddle in the affairs of mortals.
"A particularly long and difficult one, my quarry is rather good at it's ability to stay hidden," he added and tilted his head to the side. "You could say that I have every intention of catching them, dead or alive," he stated calmly. Perhaps this would be enough for her? He had been suitably vague but that had never stopped his mother from prying further, there was every chance this goddess might wish to do the same.
"Why might you be so curious?"

As the male spoke Bidii's grin widened and her eyes seemed to sparkle. Even from the tone of his voice she could tell that this wasn't a quest he would set aside for something else. He was driven, determined, and she got shivers just standing this close to him. Whatever or whoever his prey was, he wanted to find it badly. "Why?" she asked with a little laugh, finally stepping closer. "Because your zeal is palpable, my dear lion. Even to someone who isn't a god, I'm sure! But considering zeal is my domain, I suppose I'm much more in tune to it than others might be," she added, giving him a wink. "I'm Bidii," she went on as she lowered herself to a seated position, close enough to speak softer with the male but not so close that she loomed over him. "I've been following you for a bit, and now that I've found you I wish to offer you any assistance you may need in your quest, be it for yourself or your crew." She nodded in the direction that he had left the band of lions he had traveled with. "I highly doubt you need protection with your numbers as great as they are, but if you wish for a scout or perhaps some additional...enthusiasm for your group when water is scarce and food is low, I can be but a summons away."

Wait, did he hear that right?
"You're offering to help?" he asked incredulously. Oh he knew his mother would meddle when she could, but he would never have gone so far as to assume other deities would involve themselves in the otherwise small world of mortals. To say he was surprised was an understatement, regardless of what her domain might be, it was a bit of a turn up for the books. She should have gotten at least some sort of satisfaction out of his reaction!
"You will have to forgive me, I'm not entirely sure I know how your help would...work," he continued after he had taken a short moment to recover. He had never had the capacity to summon his mother, she just sort of showed up, so he wasn't entirely sure that would work. Nor was he entirely certain as to what effect that would have on his own allies.
"What exactly is it that you would do to us if summoned?" he asked.

Tethys' questions were valid, but they made Bidii laugh. She shifted her wings against her back, her wide smile still easy and not at all offended. He was a lion on a mission and she could appreciate his diligence in selecting only the best candidates for his quest. "Whatever I could, really. If you need an extra set of paws for battle I could aid there. My presence alone rallies those that might be flagging in determination. Should there ever be questions raised about the purpose of the mission or flagging confidence, I could certainly give everyone that little bit of zip they need." As she spoke she lifted a paw, fiddling with the scarf around her neck. Once she got it unwound she held it out towards the smaller mortal, the ends catching in the mild breeze that ruffled their manes. "This will aid you in calling me if you wish. Just keep it close and any time you need me, I will feel the call and come."

Tethys seemed to regard the deity with renewed interest as he took her scarf - he would be remiss to look a gift horse in the mouth, particularly when she was providing him with what could arguably be a rather powerful tool if he found himself in dire need. The stark reminder that his band and allies could lose heart whether it be through boredom or simply because they might lose was not one that a leader in any form wanted to hear, but it was something they needed to hear.
...So her abilities were directly related to that, the fervor of battle, as it was?
"You certainly have staggering capabilities," he said at last, recognising exactly just how useful such influence could be. "But what's the catch...?" he asked cautiously. Bidii might have had good intentions, but he would take a leaf out of his sister's book on this one, better for him to make sure he wasn't getting in to anything he couldn't get himself out of later! That aside she did seem genuine, she just seemed very curious about his aspirations, he didn't think he was at risk, but it was better to be safe.
"Not that I want to sound disrespectful," he added quickly. "It's a mortal thing," he finished.SilverLutz Dis fabulously snazzy scarf goes so well with his mane... <_< Not sure he'll want to give it back from a fashion POV.

"Oh, I wouldn't call them staggering," Bidii said with a little laugh as she lowered her paw. While the scarf would fit nicely on her, it would probably have to wrap around the lion's neck a few times so it didn't drag on the ground. "Certainly a boost in a pinch. A little zeal never hurt anyone, mm?" She gave him a wink before he spoke again, and when he did she had to laugh in amusement. The catch...a true mortal question. A fair one, though, as she knew plenty of her god counterparts expected sacrifices to be made in their honor. She was glad to simply be in the presence of one who embodied her domain so well. "Oh, no disrespect is taken. I can tell you've had dealings with gods before. Simply being in the presence of one so driven is quite the treat, but perhaps I'll think about a payment," Bidii said with a little wink. "It won't be anything terrible on your part. No stealing your first born, no blood oaths. That's really not my kind of thing, you see." Epine de Rose He can keep it as long as he doesn't abuse it X3 Bidii likes those that are zealous for obvious reasons XD That's her token for being summoned so it just regenerates, so she won't be without a scarf while he's got it. He can look fabulous as long as he wants!

He'd figure out the best way to wear this scarf eventually, but for now he merely draped it several times over his back. It would make for an interesting conversation to explain where this came from, and he'd certainly need to keep it safe in case any particular individual got it into their head that they would like to have a god at their beck and call. Granted, he wasn't entirely sure that was how it worked, but he'd sooner not take the chance!
"Perhaps we'll agree to disagree," he said with a wry smile. She might not consider her powers staggering, but they could certainly be a game changer in the paws of the right individual. Nevertheless, he was relieved at her reassurances that he wouldn't be asked to do anything quite so terrible as compromising the lives of those he cared about. He could appreciate an exchange like this, even if Bidii's payment might come at a later time!
"To clarify, my mother is one of your kind," he added and then cleared his throat. "Perhaps you would like to meet some of my men?" he offered. "They might not be quite as zealous but they certainly have a bit of spark you might enjoy," he added.SilverLutz xD He's not the type to exploit it, but I might have ideas about Bidii later depending on some of my RNG luck. He might very well try to summon her mid battle if we lose a bunch of the Skirmishes!

"Ooooh, see now, that makes a lot of sense," Bidii agreed. The way Tethys had reacted upon her arrival and the very sensible questions made her wonder just how many gods he knew, but if his mother was one then that certainly answered every query she had. The offer made her nod in excitement, the prospect of meeting some of those that she might be firing up later down the line an exciting thing. "Of course! As long as you think I won't overwhelm them," she said with a grin. She knew that the pale lion was a rarity and that generally mortals were either terrified or incredibly wary around gods. She wasn't terribly fond of making herself look 'normal' without going into her mortal form, but that was the shape of a wild dog and she wasn't sure a band of lions would appreciate a canine in their midst. "Lead the way!" she added, motioning with a paw for Tethys to being walking. She could lose her wings and horn on the way if need be. Epine de Rose Last post from me and fin if you want~

"You'll be fine," he replied reassuringly and offered a wry smile. "This particular group have met my mother, you're a lot...calmer than her," he mused and raised both brows. "Not that I question you're enthusiasm, she's just very jovial... but much smaller than you," he explained. Perhaps one day Bidii might even stumble upon his mother as gods could potentially do, but for now she wouldn't have to worry quite so much about overwhelming his immediate band.
If she saw fit to hide herself though, then he wouldn't fault her for that either.
His piece now said, he turned and made his way back to his camps, sporting both his new scarf and more interestingly, the being who had supplied it to him. At least they'd have a story to bring home with them after this!
