Windfallen wanders into the brush, sour look upon face. He owed Flash a favor, but this? Stealing was not something Windfallen stood for. It was simply out of the question! But he'd be a liar if he didn't think this heist wasn't at least a little exciting. And he'd be a failure to himself if he refused to return Flash's favor.
Flash had his eyes set on some apples growing on a tree and had needed help getting them, thus came Windfallen.
The two of them make their move, stealthily leaping over the meager creak that marked the edge of Tears Upon Roses' domain. Just ahead, there was a small orchard of apple trees. And ripe, ruby red apples they were!
"Here, crouch down!" said Flash of Sunlight.
"What?" Windfallen refused.
"Just do it, I can't reach!"
Windfallen groaned and obeyed, while Flash scrambled onto the kiokote's back. But just as he was about to pluck an apple from the tree, the two of them heard a voice calling out.
"Who's there?"
"Damn!" Windfallen cursed as he fumbled himself into the bushes, sending Flash to the ground with only a mouthful of apple.
"Whubaryubooinguh?!" The acha's words struggled to make it past apple bits.
In their panic, the two of them hid in the bushes. "What should we do?" Windfallen asked his old friend.
"Just follow my lead, okay?" Flash of Sunlight took a couple of branches from the bushes around them into his mouth. He held them in such a way that the leaves obscured most of his face.
Seriously?
Windfallen shrugged and did the same, just hoping to the motherfather that they wouldn't be caught. This would devastate his good reputation.
The two apple burglars kept low to the ground, like a couple of inconspicuously shifting bushes. They made their way back to the creek, keeping an ear out for the owner of these trees to call out again. But he was surprisingly silent.
They could just make out the sight of the creek they had crossed when they heard -- no, saw -- the owner of the orchard standing right there in front of them!
The two friends screamed, even before Tears Upon Roses could get a word out, dropping their poorly-made disguises and making a run for it.
