User ImageSamara hummed silently as she walked through the dorm halls. She was feeling a bit bored, but there wasn't anything to do. Her familiars had all elected to take naps, and she hadn't the heart to wake them up. Besides, playing with her familiars was fun but it wasn't engaging or active enough to kill the boredom plaguing her. She still hadn't made any especially close friends, so no one to really visit. There weren't any books she felt like reading, though truthfully, with her grades, she could stand to study a bit more. She felt her steps slowing, then coming to a complete stop, as frustration threatening to overwhelm her.

"Gotta be something to do," she muttered, leaning back against the wall and knocking her fists against stone. She began slowly walking again, right fist still occasionally hitting the stone of the wall. She was able to reach the area of the dormitories, and in fact saw the first of the doors. She gave the wood a light tap, then continued. Feeling a bit mischievous, she went to the next door, but turned and made her way back up the hall, still tapping the walls in a pattern and including the door in that pattern. She was prepared to phase out (or at least partially phase, she was still working on it) so that it would seem like no one was there, but after a few turns it seemed like no one was home to trick into answering the door. That might actually be more fun.

Samara went back to the door and cautiously turned the handle. It moved under her hands, and she slipped into the room before anyone coming down the hall might spot her. She gave the room a looking over. It looked neat, with not too many clues about the kind of person who lived there. She poked around a bit more, about ready to leave, when a sparkle of pink caught her eye. Instantly intrigued, Samara scooped up the rock and hastily, but silently, made her retreat. Once she was far enough away from the room she found a sheltered little spot and brought her hand to her face to examine her prize. It was an absolutely lovely piece of rhodochrosite. Samara loved rocks in general, but this one was quite lovely indeed. She didn't usually keep what she stole, but in this case she was highly tempted.

I wasn't sure if this was taking place while the Meta is going on or not, so I tried to be a bit vague just in case.

User ImageLillian had been feeling a little anxious lately, but thankfully, there was an easy cure for feeling like that--or at least, an easy cure for Lillian's anxiety. When she'd felt like she was about to be overwhelmed, she'd changed into a bathing suit, scooped up her pet sealpups, and made her way to the nearest fountain for a nice, long soak. Maybe the bathing suit wasn't necessary, but it felt better to have as much of her skin in the water as possible. However, it didn't feel good enough to actually get her clothes totally soggy. Besides, that would have dripped water all over the floor...

Being outside felt relaxing even without water. Feeling the breeze across her face, hearing the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves, feeling sunlight on her face...they all felt good, and she couldn't experience any of those indoors. She--and her sealpups, whom she felt deserved the treat of getting to visit a water pool--would feel better for a long soak in the fountain.

When she was feeling better, she dried herself off with a towel, put a sweater and jeans back on, and headed back to her dorm with the sealpups wrapped up in the towel. Back in her room, she set the pups down next to her on the bed and dried them off with an extra towel. As she did, she looked across the room, taking contentment in the organization.

Something was wrong.

Lillian frowned. Her idle glance turned into a scan, and with a jolt, she realized what was wrong--her rhodochrosite stone. She'd gotten it at the Hunter's Jubilee festival with her friends a couple years ago. Where was it?

She stood up. It had been on her bedside table, it had been nearby... She started lifting stacks of paper, the books on her shelves, she looked under the bed and in drawers, no, no, no, no, no...

It was gone. Her stone was gone. Think, think...what could have happened? Could someone have stolen it? Lillian briefly considered it, but rejected the idea. She kept her door locked when she left the room. Right?

She rummaged in her pocket for her key. No key. She looked at her bedside table, where the key sat innocently where she'd left it...

...last night. Oh no. She'd left the door unlocked when she went for a soak! No, no, no! This was bad. This was really bad. Lillian got to her feet, stuffed the key in her pocket, and rushed out. She'd gotten about ten feet down the hall when she remembered that she had, once again, forgotten to lock the door. She hurriedly locked it and resumed her search for some sign of what had happened. She found herself tracing her steps--as if that would help--but after she reached the fountain, she just...kept going.

She was almost panicking by now. She'd never had something stolen before! Why would someone have stolen a pretty little rock like that? Lillian was so confused that she almost didn't see the Geist in the sheltered spot. When her eyes reminded her of what they'd seen, she backtracked. "Hey," she said. "Um..." Oh man, what to say now? What could she ask this person?! "Um...I've lost...something. Could you..." She blushed. Why hadn't she admitted that it was stolen?

Because it might not be. She couldn't think of a way her stone could have...walked out of her room or whatever, but there could be some sort of weird explanation she hadn't thought of? I am panicking right now, after all, she reminded herself. "Um, could you--um, I'd like some help finding it? Uh, it's okay if you can't help, but, um, I just..."

I think probably this should take place before the meta. ^^

As soon as Samara heard the footsteps echoing in the hall she hid the stone in her pocket. Not that just sitting and playing with a stone indicated that she was doing something wrong, but it was habit to hide the evidence just in case. If the owner of the rhodochrosite started asking questions, Samara didn't want someone to remember a pink-haired Geist playing with such an object.

A sunset-colored Nixie rounded the corner. Samara put on her best "zoned out" face so that it looked like she was perhaps just sitting and thinking. Nothing suspicious here! She expected the Nixie would just walk right by, so she was quite surprised when the footsteps slowed and a hesitant-sounding voice spoke up.

"Hey. Um...Um...I've lost...something. Could you... Um, could you--um, I'd like some help finding it? Uh, it's okay if you can't help, but, um, I just..."

'Uh oh,' Samara thought as the Nixie slowly got out her request. Don't panic now Samara. The odds of this being the owner of the rhodochrosite were pretty long. Who went searching through the halls for something that had been in their room?

'Unless she thinks she might have had it in her pocket and lost it along the way,' her treacherous thoughts supplied. 'Besides, you don't even know that she was in her room in the first place.'

"What are you looking for," Samara asked, resolutely ignoring those annoying thoughts.

User ImageLillian breathed a sigh of relief when the Geist asked her that question. For one thing, she wasn't sure if the Geist would hear her--they seemed to be pretty solidly zoned out. Someone as thoughtful as that probably wasn't going to notice a question, especially since Lillian had been so quiet.

Then again, they had replied, so they probably weren't so zoned out that they didn't notice someone talking to them. The second reason that Lillian was relieved was that they agreed to help her find what she'd lost. That they had responded positively instead of saying that they were busy or had something else to do was encouraging. "I've lost a stone," she said. "It's a pink one with bands on it--it looks like an agate, but it's very bright pink. I don't know how long it's been missing--I was looking for it, but I can't find it. I don't remember--" She hesitated. How to word it? "I don't remember holding it in a couple of days." She had been organizing her desk after a marathon essay writing session. "I don't know where it could have gone. I'm hoping it didn't get far."

Lillian didn't mention that it had possibly been stolen. She couldn't imagine how it had gotten out of her room if it hadn't been. But there might be some sort of animal that stole bright shiny objects, or maybe she'd accidentally put it in her backpack (although she thought she would have remembered that...) But mostly she didn't say that it had probably been stolen because she didn't want this stranger to think that she was accusing them of stealing it. They were a Geist, after all--they probably got accusations of theft every day. She didn't want to add onto that. "My name's Lillian, by the way," she added. "Um, thank you so much for helping me."

Uh oh... Well Samara either had some of the best luck in the world or the worse, if the owner of the stone she had nicked appeared in their room not long after she'd been in there herself. It was likely sheer dumb luck, but she'd never actually been caught before. One really close call (now two), but that was about it. Well this was certainly going to be interesting...

The rock felt heavy in Samara's pocket as she scooted forward a little until her feet were touching the floor, though she didn't stand up just yet. "I'm Samara. Where have you looked? I'm guessing you already checked your room. Was it near a window, where it could have fallen outside or been snatched by a cockatriel or something?"

She kept her tone attentive and concerned. Inside the feeling of apprehension was joined by a distinctive thrilling sensation. It was always nice to have a challenge, and sneaking this stone back would prove to be a nice little challenge indeed. Now it could have been a fake front, but Lillian seemed a bit shy. It might be mean to just put the stone back in plain sight, since that might cause self doubt or some level of dismay. Shy types seemed to have trouble speaking up, for example, and she didn't want Lillian to feel bad for "bothering" someone.

Well, that was if Lillian was what she seemed. Plenty of mean people covered that inner self with a sweeter-seeming outside. If that was the case, she'd think of something equally appropriate. For now she would just play it by ear and try to keep her wits about her!
