She'd been advised that she was to expect a visitor, a rare one at that. It was no rogue, nor Kizi...hell it wasn't even one of the prides they had been speaking with in regards to potential alliances. Instead it was a Stormborn, one of those supposedly brutish and cruel lions that did nothing except pillage and enslave. However, on this particular occasion the guard had been insistent that she would be watched at all times and no harm would come to her.
...That being said, it was not the first time that the Hlare had been held captive.
Still, she had some doubts as to the individuals intentions and the reasons for him coming here. Beyond pillaging the Bahari, what could a Viking possibly have need of? She knew that they had their own healers, every pride with half a brain ensured they had competent health care... So what exactly set them apart on this occasion?
She could only assume that it was a rather important one if Ram had permitted entrance, in fact, it was probably very important if the Viking brute had even asked to be permitted entry. Perhaps their healers were unwell, injured, or worse and as such they required outside assistance. Regardless of her own inner musings, she knew that she would find out in due course as according to the guards that had now been stationed at her door, he would be arriving very shortly...Words: 241

As per the advice of a number of the guards, the lion had done the 'right' thing and cleaned himself up. Unbeknownst to him, even his half brother had indicated it was in his best interests to be presentable. He had found out from this unknown brother that his pride were considered unkempt, rude and brutish... none of these qualities were going to be particularly healthy when faced with an individual who he would be requesting the advice of.
Thus he had spent a good portion of his day patting down unruly fur and cleaning himself off. All in all, he cleaned up rather well and would have made anyone proud with how well he carried himself. Suffice it to say if anyone could find fault in the large lions appearance now, then he would promptly tell them to chomp on a damn cactus.
At the designated time he had approached the awaiting guard and soon he had been escorted to the den of the particular Hlare that the ruler, who he now knew as 'Ram', had advised him to meet with. The pride ruler had indicated that she was a rather astute young lioness and as such, would most likely be able to identify his requirements quickly - if they could help, then it was likely that she would know... if they couldn't, then perhaps she might know who she could send him to.
Either way, it would be a valuable encounter.
Fortunately the walk had been pleasant and as he cleared his throat and stepped inside, he was greeted by the rather pleasant looking pink lioness. Now there was a surprise, he was expecting another hag!
"Well then," he murmured quietly. "You must be the Hlare, your ruler commends you highly..."Words: 292

"I would imagine so, I've been through quite a lot on behalf of my home," she motioned with her paw for him to have a seat and took a moment to glance him up and down. There was something familiar about him that she couldn't quite put her paw on, it was something to do with his eyes, she felt like she had seen them before. Alas, rather than pursue that line of question, one that she suspected would go nowhere, she deemed it more appropriate to continue with his actual reason for being present.
...That aside, she did at least note that he cleaned up rather well.
"You must be the Stormborn that has been on our borders," she raised a brow. All in all she didn't see anything that might have given cause for concern. He had no wounds and the bruises and injuries he did have were scarring nicely. Lost hair was already regrowing, for all intents and purposes he had no real reason to be here for himself, so he must have come on behalf of someone else.
"So," she finally took her seat and tilted her head to the side. "For what reason do we find Stormborn on our borders with specific requests to speak with individuals such as me?" she asked curiously.Words: 218

They certainly were a direct bunch!
Well, those that he had met so far had been direct, from guards this was to be expected and in some manner it was also expected of the King. However for the healers he had expected them to have a bit more bedside manner. Perhaps this one was an exception, but she certainly didn't seem to be here for small talk and at this point, he was beginning to appreciate why. At least the Stormborn would be satisfied to hear that there were prides out there who regarded them with caution...they might not be hostile, but the certainly weren't trusting.
"We have need of individuals who are aware of how best to utilize plants," he began and motioned to the variety of trinkets, pots and herbs that were strewn around the den. She certainly seemed to fit the bill. the place was a mess and held the most unusual smells, but it made its point. Suffice it to say that he imagined Kluna and Dione would be intrigued by this particular area.
"Antidotes, poisons, suppressants..." he grimaced. He would prefer not to go in to any further detail but his mother had stressed that it was important he get his requirements across, otherwise he just wouldn't receive the help he needed. "We have a need of them," he said and released a sigh. "Unfortunately we have encountered an enemy that seems to utilize these things with great efficiency and we need to stop it."Words: 250

"We don't assist in warfare," Zephyr replied immediately when she heard his description and shook her head. An antidote she would certainly be able to assist with, but poisons and suppressants were entirely out of the question, particularly when it could be used on her own pride.
"I'm not asking you to," Tethys replied bluntly. "On the contrary I'm asking you to provide us with assistance because it might very well save your pride too," he stated. It was a remark that made the lioness's brow rise much higher, in those moments he knew he had her interest and it would be advantageous if he took this time to clarify his intentions further. Now he knew what his mother meant about being clear in his requests.
"What we are facing is not isolated to us, it hasn't simply marked us for death, if you have anything or anyone that fits its 'requirements' then it will come for them and as it stands, we have no way of preventing a large portion of their assault."
"I see," Zephyr frowned. Ram had clearly seen reason to acknowledge the Viking's concern and it was wise for her to do so as well. Though his descriptions were incredibly vague she had surmised that whatever he was facing may have favoured tactics that involved such weaponry.
"Do you know anything about medicine, Captain?" she asked at last.
"I do not."
"Then how do you expect me to convey whatever knowledge I have, is your memory sound?" she continued, causing him to frown. The twitch of his eyebrow indicated that she had struck a nerve. "Herbalism and alchemy are incredibly complex, particularly when creating the things you have requested," she clarified and shook her head. "Is there anyone sound of mind and able enough to be taught?" she enquired.
There was a pause.
"I believe there is," Tethys said finally. "But a meeting is not possible at this time as your King will not grant permission for you to leave with us... and such individuals in our pride do not leave without good reason."
He was met with a long stare.
"We are arrogant in some things and there are those who believe we are capable of solving this ourselves, I do not." He grimaced. "But we do have priestesses, good priestesses who I am sure you would find worthy of your knowledge."
"And what is to say you will not simply enslave me?"
"A little trust," he sighed. "And collateral, keep your things here and if we find we do not have what we need in our lands then how else are we going to get what we do need?" Her expression made him chuckle. "You seem surprised by my willingness to assist you in circumventing our perceived inclinations."
"I am," she didn't bother lying. "Leave the King to me, I will meet with your priestesses and see if they are capable of absorbing the knowledge we might have," she murmured. "For now you will wait here, I will discuss this in private," she ordered and without providing him with an opportunity to dispute her request, she left her den.
"Huh..." he huffed in surprise. He guessed his mother really was right about these particular lions...Words (Zephyr): 245 Words (Tethys): 296 TOTAL WORDS (ZEPHYR): 704 TOTAL WORDS (TETHYS): 838
