Pamela waited by the entrance of the park, bouncing from foot to foot to help keep warm. Her Girl Scout troop had decided to take turns cleaning litter in this park, and Pamela had volunteered to do it today. It wasn't the best time of year for the job, since she didn't want to stay out in the cold for too long, but someone from school was supposed to meet up and help her, which should be fun. The only thing better than helping out was doing it with a friend!

She didn't want to get started until Alise was here, so she waited, looking up and down the sidewalk to see if she could spot the other girl coming. She tucked her hands deep in the pockets of her coat, gloved fingers crinkling the garbage bag she'd brought along to throw the litter into. She did hope the other girl would arrive soon, because it would be easier to keep warm once they were moving.

Picking up litter in the park wasn't how Alise pictured spending part of her winter break, but it seemed there would be no getting out of this one.

As part of an effort to get her daughter to make 'normal' friends, Alise's mother had been arranging things with the parents of some of the other children from school... or at least the kids Alise hadn't already scared off, anyway. Pam was in a few grades below her, but she and Alise had struck up a friendship, bonding over having the same birthday. They had different interests, though, and Girl Scouts wasn't something Alise had any interest in joining (though Etoile loved their cookies). Still, it seemed she'd be helping them out today either way, and she knew trying to protest would fall on deaf ears, so Alise had begrudgingly accepted her fate... though not without smuggling Etoile out to the park with her (hidden in her coat).

As the two approached, Alise spotted Pam waiting just up ahead, and waved to let her know she had arrived. From her position inside Alise's coat, Etpile started to squirm, and Alise hoped that the little cat wouldnhave enough common sense to stay hidden. "Hey! Sorry if I kept you waiting," Alise greeted.

As soon as Pam spotted Alise, she started bouncing up and down, excitedly waving back. "You're here! Hi!" she called out, then rather than waiting for her friend to reach her, Pam jogged over to her instead. It was too cold to sit still anyway, and she was glad to see her!

"I wasn't waiting to long," she answered as she approached the other girl. "And if we're lucky, we won't have to be out in the cold too long. Less people are out this time of year, so there's usually less garbage to clean up." She looked over towards the park, which had a swing set and stuff to climb on, and added, "But it we want to stay a bit, we can always play for a bit. No reason we can't, as long as the park gets clean! And that'll go faster with two people!"

She looked back at Alise and smiled as she reached the other girl. Then she noticed something odd and cocked her head curiously. Did her coat just move?

Merurulince
Huh, I didn't realize they had the same birthday. Cool!

"Good! It's too cold to be picking up trash, anyway," Alise declared decisively, "The sooner we get it done, the better." She wasn't interested in doing this longer than she absolutely had to, after all.

Meanwhile, Etoile continued to squirm, paying no mind to if she drew any attention to herself. There was a senshi to be awakened! Maybe Alise couldn't sense those things, but she could, and she had to be there!! Her first awakening!!

"Let meowwwwwwwwt~" a tiny voice whispered from within Alise's jacket.

"Yeah, it's not the best time of year to be out doing this," Pam agreed. "But it could be worse! It could be snowing, or all icy!" Instead it was just cold, and not even super-cold. Pam had been out in worse.

But Alise's coat kept moving. And after a moment, Pam thought she heard a small sound coming from it. A voice? No, more like a meow. It would be a strange place to carry a cat, though. Maybe a toy, one of the electronic ones that moves and makes sounds?

"Um...is there something in your coat?" she finally asked.

Merurulince
That's cool! The date has no significance for me, I just decided she should be a Cancer an picked a birthday that would fall under that.

"Nnnoooo?" Alise quickly said, scrambling to think of a distraction...

... Just as Etoile managed to finally free herself, poking her head out of Alise's jacket. Finally! Now that she was free, Etoile knew exactly who she was looking for, and, before Alise could stop her, spoke up.

"Salut, enchante!" the little cat cheerfully greeted.

(Alise shrugged, though inside she was panicking. "... Okay, maaaaaybe?")

And then the cause of the wiggling appeared when a furry head popped up out of Alise's jacket. Pam stared for a moment. It looked like a cat, but it was wearing a cute little hood and it talked (though she had no idea what language that was). And a cat wouldn't talk or probably wear clothing, so it had to be something else.

"...Is that a toy?" she suggested. It still seemed the most likely explanation. Assuming it was, she continued, "Probably not the best thing to bring to a park clean-up, but we could play with it later if you want."

"Oh no, I'm not a toy," Etoile corrected, now climbing to perch on Alise's shoulder to get a better look at Megumi, "but I'd love to play! Especially if there's snacks afterwards- do you have any candy canes?"

"Uh... Etoi, I don't think this is the right time for that-" Alise attempted to interject, hoping that Pamela wouldn't tell anyone about the talking cat. If only she had one of those pen things like the Men In Black did in the movies, or Jedi mind trick her way around this.

(Maybe if she claimed Etoile was her dark demonic familiar from the underworld Pamela would think this was just Alise being Alise and dismiss it as an elaborate prank)

Etoile, on the other hand, seemed to consider things for a moment, before continuing on. "My name is Etoile, and today," she said, "is your lucky day, Sailor Chibi Megumi,"

Despite the cat's insistence that she wasn't a toy, Pam briefly considered the idea that she might be a puppet or something, and Alise was teasing her. Then the cat climbed onto Alise's shoulder, and it was pretty clear she was a real, independent, flesh-and-blood cat. In a cute hood and anklet thingies. That happened to talk.

Pam took a moment to consider this information. Then her eyes went wide with delight. "Cool! You have a talking cat!" she said to Alise. "How's she do that?"

The cat wasn't done talking, though. But what she had to say next left Pam kind of puzzled. "Um, it's nice to meet you Etoile, but I think you have the wrong person. My name's Pamela, or Pam, and I'm not a sailor. I've never even been on a boat."

(But oh my goodness, she was talking to a cat, this was so cool!)

"That's purrfectly okay, because we're not going on any boats!" Etoile cheerfully informed Pamela. tail twitching in excitement.

Meanwhile, it was all Alise could do not to gawk at the situation currently unfolding before her. Not only was one of her friends a fellow chibi senshi, but it was someone from school, too! There was a vague sense of disappointment in the fact that she wouldn't be able to brag about this to anyone, but it was exciting all the same to have someone familiar to share her secret with.

Still, Etoile wasn't done talking.

"You, Pamela," she began, pointing a paw for emphasis, "are a magical girl! You are Sailor Chibi Megumi, the senshi of fondness!"

"Isn't that exciting?"

While talking to a cat was cool, she wasn't making a lot of sense. Part of what she was saying sounded like nonsense, and Pam was trying to make sense of the rest of it.

"A magical girl?" she asked. "Like...a witch or something? Does that mean I can learn to cast spells and stuff?" She was thinking more Harry Potter witches and other friendly wishes, rather than the wicked ones from fairy tales. Then she remembered something else about witches and she perked up as she realized something. "Oh! Does that mean you're a familiar, then? Is that why you can talk?"

Now it was Etoile's turn to be confused. While she understood some of the things Pamela was talking about thanks to Alise and her interests in the spooky and the occult, the fact was that the Mauvian couldn't comprehend the idea that her explanation of magical girls would be lost on a ten-year-old.

"Well, I supposed 'familiar' is close to what I am, but I don't go riding around on any broomsticks... yet," Etoile mused thoughtfully, "No, I'm what you would call a Guardian Cat! Hmm... we're more like helpers, or guides?"

Maybe a little push in the right direction would help. Hopping down from her perch atop Alise's shoulder, Etoile did a little somersault, producing a henshin pen from, well... wherever henshin pens came from, before nudging it towards Pamela with a paw.

"Maybe this will help," the little cat suggested, "This is for you; a present~!"

(Alise, who admittedly had only been half-listening at this point while she started to think up all the cool stuff she and Pamela could do together now, suddenly snapped back to the present as she realized where this conversation was headed and where they were.

"Umm, I think first, we should go somewhere... a littttle less out in the open?" she pointed out.)

Pamela didn't hear a "no," so she figured she was right about being a witch. Or at least she could learn to be one. Well, that was exciting! She wondered what kind of magic she could learn.

The idea was only reinforced when Etoile made an object appear out of nowhere, like a magician pulling something out of thin air. Pam crouched down to look at the thing, which seemed to be a fancy pen, or maybe a magic wand. She smiled and reached for it, but as her fingers closed on it Alise spoke up.

Pam froze, then looked up at the other girl. "Go somewhere else first? Should I not pick it up, then?" SHe didn't know why they would need to go someplace less open, but then again, she didn't know anything about how witches worked.

I guess Pam doesn't watch anime. razz

"No, no, you should," Etoile insisted, willing Pam to pick up the wand, "It's yours, after all. But... Alise is also right; we should move someplace a little more secluded."

Alise nodded. "Yeah, like... if the 'muggles' see us using magic, we'll get in trouble," she explained, "And there's no Obliviate like in Harry Potter, either."

mewrose
alise needs to remedy this by bringing over some of her anime bds to pam's sometime

"Oh! That makes sense," Pam said to Alise. The explanation seemed obvious, now that she thought about it. After all, if she hadn't known magic and things were real, then probably most people didn't, either. She could keep it secret.

She stood up, wand in hand, and smiled at the two of them. Then something struck her about what Alise had said. "Wait..."us"? You too?" she asked. She beamed, delighted at the idea. Oh, that would be exciting if her friend was a witch too! They could share the secret with each other, at least.

After a moment she remembered she needed to find someplace less open and looked around. The park didn't have much; there was the swing set and some climbing stuff with slides, but aside from a small tunnel that wouldn't even be able to fit both of them at once, everything was pretty open. There was a gazebo way down on the other side of the park, but that was open on all sides, too. Pam looked for other options and noticed the buildings around here were pretty tall and close together.

"Would an alley be hidden enough?" she asked, pointing to the nearest one.
