He had been down here for hours, well it seemed likes hours anyway. It was infuriating, he'd tried every cavern and all had turned up to be useless. Some had been dead ends, others had ended up going in the opposite direction. Regardless, it seemed that none of the caverns led up and what was supposed to have been an 'easy' ting was turning out to be incredibly difficult. All the while, the white lion had noted with some irritation that Gideon hadn't moved from his spot.
Tail still swaying from side to side, the black lion had certainly made himself comfortable and was admiring the view from the outside.
Outside...
Maybe the way up was from the outside?
Urgh, the lion simply didn't have time for it, to get up from out there would require him to find the entrance and that would just take even more time. For all he knew, the damn thing could be hidden again. Granted, it might be in plain sight, but he'd already failed at that once before.
"Arrrrrrrgh!"
He cried out in frustration and with it came a renewed sense of simplicity - rather than bother with the caves he was now going to do it the hard way. Thus, he began to claw his way up the rock face towards where that swaying tail lay...Words: 223

Oh look, genius had found his way up!
Gideon glanced over his shoulder at the sound of the scrambling and waited patiently until the younger lion became visible. After all this time he had finally found the answer, one that was right in front of him the whole time. This seemed to be a running theme for this particular lion and the more frequently this fault was exhibited, the more concerned the black lion became. It really was a rather critical issue that was going to need to be addressed somehow - one that he wasn't confident he could do in one sitting.
How long did he have exactly?
"Congratulations, you made it," he remarked with a raised brow, regarding the still scrambling lion with amusement. Another thing to work on perhaps, how to climb up obstacles with your dignity intact... That one he could probably correct in several sessions, but it wasn't why Tethys had been sent.Words: 157

Tethys glared at the dark male with unbridled irritation. Gideon didn't even seem impressed, hell, if anything he seemed amused. Was this because it had taken him so long to find a way up, did he happen to know where the secret path was - no doubt the simple answer was that he did have to go outside again and there would be stairs. Alas, no, instead the darker lion had decided to claim it would be easy to get up and that he would expect him to be their shortly.
Evidently, Gideon and Tethys had very different definitions of what 'simple' was.
Winded, the white lion took a number of minutes to recover from his climb and his heavy breathing eventually subsided. Unfortunately for Gideon his glare did not...This individual was most assuredly not in Tethys's good books, especially with his penchant for vague remarks. If the lion was going to speak in riddles, then he was wasting his time, Tethys had much more important things to be dealing with.
"That's it?" he demanded and shook his head. "I just hauled myself up a damn rock face, a vertical rock face, and that's all you have to say?" he continued incredulously.Words: 202

Gideon's brow rose ever higher as the white lion expressed his frustration. On the plus side, Tethys wasn't frightened to make his point known, but it still made is flaws glaringly obvious. Te black lion could only assume that he was expecting a song or dance, a medal, some sort of reward... Either way, he was aiming for some sort of celebration which he simply wasn't going to get from this particular male.
"You are referring to the ledge, with multiple juts, that can be used to climb up comfortably?" Gideon replied smoothly and raised to his feet. Striding passed the winded male, he gazed down the rock face and rolled his eyes. Even from this vantage point he could see the multiple, larger rocks within the facing that could be used to climb up. The fact the white lion had even deemed to climb up vertically was just ridiculous.
"I am not entirely certain of what you wish for me to say, given that this is how one always accesses this spot," he pointed out and swept back to his 'window'. He settled once more and released a small sigh. "Your decision to climb vertically, instead of utilising the ledges to scale horizontally and therefore with less stress on your body, says more about you than my lack of enthusiasm does about me..."
He cast his gaze back to the white lion and snorted.
"You seem to have a very bad habit of being oblivious to the obvious," he added coolly. "A rather severe weakness."Words: 256

Tethys was momentarily silent as he followed Gideon's gaze - had those ledges always been there? He had certainly grappled on to a few of them on the way up but he hadn't been aware of all of them. Obviously they had all been there before, it wasn't as if the black lion had summoned them by magic. After all, Gideon was no god, but Tethys was startled to discover that those ledges were there.
He couldn't even express his annoyance at Gideon's comments, after all, they were right. Worse still, when he went so far as to criticise, Tethys could do no more than wrinkle his nose in discontent. He would have liked to argue that the black lion was wrong, but he had just wasted almost the entire day on failing to notice the obvious.
...First there was the door.
And now he was faced with the fact he had failed to spot the way up to Gideon's vantage point.
Tethys was not so arrogant as to be unable to recognise when he had stepped out of line and he eventually returned his gaze to the unimpressed male. Loathe as he might have been to admit it, he didn't deserve the song and dance, frankly he didn't deserve any credit...
"You could have just told me," he stated at last, maintaining at least a measure of dignity in his tone.Words: 231

"I could have," Gideon agreed as a small chuckle escaped from his lips. Tethys's indignation, and his frustration towards himself, were easy to see. Now that he had been directed to the answer, it was all so clear to him, yet this did nothing to assist him with his current predicament. Really, the lion was a disaster and Gideon was not yet ready to assist him.
...There wasn't any potential there, not yet anyway.
"But then again," he turned round at last and raised his brow. His expression was no longer one of good humour and his gaze had darkened considerably. "The ones you seek to hunt will not make their presence known, will they?" he challenged and turned his back to the white lion. "If you cannot see what is very obviously in front of your eyes -" he glanced over his shoulder and grimaced. "Then how do you expect to fight something that isn't so simple?"
It was a demand more than a question.
"You are fortunate in the sense that you still have time, they will not attack yet and you have the benefit of having an army at your back to keep you safe," he snorted. "But you are not yet ready to receive my guidance," he took a breath. "Leave this place, and when you have found your paws again then you may return," he made a shooing motion with his own paw and returned his gaze to the canopy below him.
"Be mindful however that your time is limited, the longer you continue to lead them blindly, the higher the probability you will kill them all."
It was with those final words that Tethys would find himself ignored and thoroughly dismissed, hopefully Tethys would know better than to argue at this current moment in time. Words: 300 Total Words (Gideon): 713

The white lion made to argue, and yet he was so succinctly shut down that he was reminded of his father. It hadn't been his father that had redirected him to this place, it had been other acquaintances, and yet he did have to wonder where they had gotten their information from as well. Gideon had in those moments indicated that he knew far more than Tethys had anticipated.
"Urgh," Tethys muttered in frustration, yet rather than dispute it, he did as he was told.
For the time being he would return to his allies, the black lion was right in the sense that he did have limited time and he couldn't spend all of it imploring some disgruntled jungle dweller to offer his guidance. Whatever lessons he might have, it was going to have to wait...Words: 137 Total Words (Tethys): 793
