Finian made his way among the trees and bushes, his hooves crunching softly with each step in the fresh packed snow. The winter had been lean though not as harsh as winters past. This year seemed some how different. Maybe it were the odd patterns in the weather or perhaps it was the feel of the season all together. Shaking his short mane out, he continued in his walk. More and more often he had walked alone now that his son was grown and living a life his own.
Sure, he couldn't fault the young stallion. After all his new mate was quite fetching. Indeed his son had done well to win such a gentle and timid heart. Dismissing he thought of his son and the lad's mate, he flicked his ears about as he came upon a small bubbling brook. Once he was satisfied with he sounds of the woods, he lowered his head to drink. The water was crisp and clean, sweet to taste as it rolled down his throat. Were there not such a blanket of white on the ground, he'd almost be too welcoming of the water's cool temperature. As it were, it only served to chill him from the inside out. Blast this season.. it was always a gamble of warmth and food.

Cold water was not something she wanted to drink, not in the winter. but needs were needs and water was such a need. The water just happen to be cold and they just happen to be in winter now and snow covered the ground in a heavy blanket of white. She was not one who liked the season, and never had, and for several reasons. She stood out too much, more than even she liked to stand out and that said something. Also the lack of food availability, she actually had to work harder and more just to eat. No, winter was not her thing, nor would it ever be. She was one who lived for the summer with it's warming sun and bright colors, plus the food was easy to get and cool water was a blessing.
Now though her hooves crunched on the snow as she made for the brook she knew was just past some more trees. A solid, or seemingly solid, bit of snow gave under her front right hoof and sent her off balance for a moment. Wings fluttered wildly as she balanced herself, hair catching on some branches. She cursed to herself, she would never do so aloud, as she untangled herself with a huff before continuing on her way - nose in the air.
Stepping out from between several trees she took the time to look around, cyan eyes landing on a dark blue body and she took note that they were doing as she came here to do, no surprise really. She might come here in the summer to soak up the warmth but in the winter...she wouldn't dare lay herself on the ground - too cold.

He drank further still, quenching his thirst before finally raising his head to take a look around. His ears had heard the distant crunching of snow beneath hoof somewhere down stream. Yellow eyes glanced about in the direction before he finally found the cause. A brightly colored mare had ventured into his direction. Now there was a sight to see. A drastic clashing to the surrounding landscaping, then again who was he to talk with he vibrant blue and yellow of his coat.
Lifting his head from the water, he flashed a bright roguish smile and nickered a greeting to the mare. "Cold day." He made the statement not in cheer but more of a matter of fact sort of tone. He had a moment to thing, stay and allow her to walk further into his presence or close the gap himself. Past experiences being what they had been, he looked around carefully to be certain the mare had no features resembling his son's mother. While he'd respected the mare, he'd had to leave her and her kind for other reasoning. Seeing that there wasn't any indication to cause for alarm, he settled his mind to go and greet her instead of waiting for her to come to him. Bounding across the brook to the other bank, he casually made his way to close the distance between them both. "What brings a lovely lady like yourself here?" He asked stopping a safe distance from the mare should his assessment of her be different. There was always the chance that maybe just maybe there was a jealous lover near by, especially when dealing with pretty mares.

Lifting her head, before she could even take a sip of the cold water, and nodded her head. "Yes, not something I'm pleased with." Not in the slightest bit from the sound of it, she wasn't about to hide her dislike of the cold. Her tail flickering behind her in a show of her dislike, how long till it warmed up again? Why couldn't it simply come sooner? She knew winter was needed, a rather unfortunate thing, but she could and would wish for summer sooner.
Watching him close the distance between them, wings relaxing against her back, she kept her cyan eyes on his vibrant figure. He certainly stood out against the winter wonderland around them, though she did so a better job of it. "A drink, though I really do dislike drinking on such cold days." It just made her colder, made her want to hurry home to the nice warm cave her and her twin shared. Normally she didn't like staying around her protective brother; he was a bit...over protective.
"A drink as well or are you out to enjoy this cold?" Oh, she didn't hide her dislike for this weather at all, she didn't care if it bothered him and he was one of those who liked this weather - she didn't. Ducking her head to sip, something she did slowly, she shivered once as the cold water hit her mouth and past her lips and went down her throat. it was almost cold enough to take her breath away.

He nodded when she spoke. Drinks were necessary even if this time of year proved to make them more un-enjoyable. "Cold.. yes.. If only it were a warm day, then perhaps the cool brook would be better." He shook his head looking at the snow with a look of disdain. "I can't say that I'm entirely a fan of the cold to be honest." Though he had fist reached these lands in the winter, he still couldn't say that he harbored much of an enjoyment for the season, even if it was an essential thing for nature to thrive.
"Oh heavens, I was thirsty, I couldn't very well allow myself to shrivel up like a raisin." He shook his mane out amused at the idea that he's actually roll in glee in the snowbanks. "I daresay You didn't seem like you were enjoying this all yourself. You'll be needing to find warmth after such a drink I presume. I know a nice place that's sheltered from a breeze and the snow. That is if you'd like to join me." His ears flicked forward once more as he spoke. "I'm Finian." He offered his name, dipping his head as he did so.
