A laugh cracked through her lips as she went on the hunt, so to speak, and it wasn't unlike the one that had spilled forth when she found out who she was getting a gift for.

Malcolm; he who had been so concerned about whether they were sheep in the Alps. He who had helped Rose subdue her when she'd found herself less than human and more than a mere furry feline. It still felt like irony, she thought, as she approached the Zeus dormitory.

There was a neatly wrapped box in her hands and while she had considered putting it in his dorm, she'd decided it was better to give it to him in person. Besides, she wanted to see his face when he saw his gifts. Especially the last one; in her opinion it was by far the best.

Mal was in his dorm room, with the door propped ope and held that way by a winter boot. He was actually writing a letter on his desk, frowning over it a little bit, and his glasses had been pushed up to sit in his hair.

December inevitably meant gifts, which meant finding something for Finn, with the added business of this Xenia thing, which he didn't much mind, exactly... it was just that getting to and from a real shopping center was such a pain in the a**.

He'd always enjoyed the Secret Santa/Mitzvah Maury that his precinct had done, though a lot of the other detectives had thought it was bunk. Mal made a face at his letter. Gio was going to be pissed, but he couldn't do anything about it. He wasn't there, Gio would have to host Christmas morning-- he added and you'd better act like you like it as the post script and gave up, signing it with a flourish.

It seemed there was some Hermes luck on her side as she wandered past the door that was propped open. Catching a sight of short brown hair and a suit, she knew she'd found her target recipient. Raising a hand to let her knuckled tap against the door, she cleared her throat as an extra sound to announce her presence.

"Malcolm?" she started, "or do you prefer Mal?" They hadn't exactly conversed much, if at all past the few times on missions they'd been in the same area. And in the Alps they'd not exactly been at their friendliest deciding what to do.

"Pretty much Mal, always, unless it's serious." He got up to offer her a hand to shake, after turning over the letter. "I feel like I know your face, but your name escapes me at the moment."

No one had been showing a good side in the Alps. Mal didn't really care, though; that was water under the bridge at this point. Who had time to worry about birds when there had been animals?

"Marisol Whelan, Hermes," she introduced, shifting the wrapped present into the opposite hand so she could shake his. "I wondered if you were a shepherd and then you helped my girlfriend subdue me when I was a margay intent on ripping your face off," she chuckled lightly, shrugging a shoulder. "Sorry for that by the way, it's a trip to be suddenly a feline." Which was to say, self-preservation kicked into high gear and logic had to take a back seat.

"I happened to get your name for the gift giving," she added, if he hadn't already assumed by the box she was carrying. She lifted it into both hands and offered it to him.

"Marisol," he repeated, like he needed to say it aloud himself to make sure he paired name with face. "Pleasure to meet you for real this time. Yeah, I kind of have some blurred memories of being an armored anteater myself, so. No harm, no foul."

He hesitated and took the box. "Oh, cool. Wow. Thank you." He flipped it over to examine the wrapping, and if he could, he'd open it neatly, slitting the tape instead of ripping the paper to see what was inside it-- and only pausing once it was partway open already, but he hadn't gotten the paper up enough to see.

"Can I open it now? Or do I have to wait, do you know?"

"You can open it now," she nodded as she remembered putting the cufflinks inside the box. After a lot of thought, she ended up purchasing a four-piece set that contained two pairs of cufflinks and two tie pins. Although for now, she'd just picked one of them to give him.

There was little doubt that he'd like the other items, she thought. A tie pin featuring a pair of glasses laser etched into an aluminum surface, an entire pin itself shaped in a lightning bolt which couldn't be more fitting for a chosen of Zeus, and a pair of bullet cufflinks as a reminder of what he did, as a detective and as a chosen. But the second set, the one she was giving him now... A flutter of nerves clenched in her stomach.

These cufflinks were etched with two phrases, well one phrase ("For the Greater Good") and one movie title ("Hot Fuzz"). The coordinates, that was a little more indepth. She'd had his place of birth and his hometown and where he was employed to choose from. Ultimately, she hoped she'd chosen the right one to engrave so that he could carry it with him always.

Mal unwrapped the box, opened it-- and whooped. It was a delighted whoop, though, definitely of joy, and he held the box to one side and hugged Marisol around the shoulders. He didn't do it gently, but there was no sense that he was changing his reaction for her gender.

"This is great! Thank you!" He didn't immediately swap them out, but he examined the cufflinks in the case. "Really, thank you, Marisol."

Marisol grinned, relieved, as the man whooped. And though she was surprised to find him embracing her so enthusiastically (or at all), she returned it as best she could without either knocking the box out of his grip or making things awkward by throwing off his balance.

"You're very welcome," she smiled brightly, "I'm so glad you like the cufflinks." Besides she doubted a restraining order would do much good here or when they were needed on a new mission. Hopefully one that didn't involve turning into animals. "The coordinates are where you [insert: were born/grew up/work], in--" [he can interrupt to say where]
