On the outskirts of Salamire, a restored treehive had a flickering glow in the windows. It was evidence of life inside the hut. The hive was high off the ground, and had ropes leading up, along with a ladder used for climbing to the upper deck. The walk ways that lead from the main village was out north. It connected off the bridges and paths to get to his hive. However, they cut off abruptly ending on a small platform. This in turn left one required to look up in order to find the place. The outside was mostly surrounded by a few simple blockades. The metal scraps he'd managed to collect when away from the swamp had been used to build a makeshift fenced door around the immediate entrance. Eyzaak had the door open, as he was home. The fenced in area was open, as if a welcome sign should anyone happen to pass by. Today was a good staying in sort of day, the rain had been coming down for the past hour or so. While he could have gone out to play outside, his lusus was fast asleep curled up on the floor with a blanket and was content to stay put. Finding something to do inside left him a few choices, as reading was not among the list unless the books included a lot of pictures. That left Eyzaak bored, and forced to entertain himself. Sprawled out on his floor, he had a jar of fireflies captured the other night beside him. Lying over a small sheet of paper, he had a pencil clumsily gripped in his hand as he tried to doodle a design for a fan. He had a few metal parts set aside to try and build something akin to the thing he'd seen during Bloodfest as a prize. Humming, the small boy swung his legs back and forth in a lazy idol fashion. His crooked tooth smile was replaced by a scowl as he scribbled at his idea. Starting over he planned for a new concept on how to make the blades rotate. Doutei no rush on catching up with what we do have since we aren't done yet! :>

It just had to be raining.
Drenched and miserable, a redblood trudged through the muddy swamp. Carrying a bag clutched tightly to her chest, the girl attempted to keep it dry. Wading through the flooding waters, she glanced up to the sky every few steps in search of something. Eventually, she found it. Squinting at the only route up, Tevini grit her teeth. Dammit.
Several minutes and two slips later, she was at the top. Surprisingly, the door was already open. A very paranoid and secretive troll, Tevini found this move to completely defy all logic. Huh? Confused, she wondered how successful she would be in her mission tonight. It was too late to turn back now with empty hands, she had to see this through.
"Anyone home?" Peering inside, she knocked lightly on the door and met the eyes of a young blueblood boy.
"Are you Eyzaak?"

Eyzaak had just been about to roll over onto his side to try and find a more comfortable position to lounge on the floor. He thought he heard something outside, but he wasn't entirely sure until he actually saw the troll with their head of wild curls made themselves known. Blinking curiously, the small boy sat himself up as he smoothed down his scarf before cocking his head ot one side as he looked her over. The knock had come as a surprise, a grin matching the blueblood child's face. "Heck yeah! I'm home, I was listening to the rain." The boy proclaimed as he picked himself up off the floor. Scampering across the short distance he narrowed his eyes at her suspiciously. For a long moment he had to decide if he would welcome her or not. He didn't mind company, he just had absolutely no who the heck she was. Eyzaak was pretty sure he'd seen her around before? It occurred to him it was possible. His brows furrowed as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Maybe, who are you?" Eyzaak pressed her for information as he closed the gap between them. Although she was small, and not all that terribly much taller than him he still had to look up to her. "Okay. Okay. Yeah I'm Eyzaak. But tell me who you are still!!" He finally offered, more or less demanding with a gleam of childish vigor in his eyes. Eyz decided she wasn't a threat given his lusus was still being a lazy turd and merely blinked at the guest in greeting.

His lusus wasn't wrong. The girl who stood outside certainly was one of the lowest threats on the meter possible. As she glanced the boy over, Tevini took note of his rowdy attitude and found herself wishing she could claim to have come to the wrong door. It was too late for that though, as he'd claimed the name she'd mentioned.
"My name is Tevini. I've come here today on Vremea's behalf." The redblood explained, knowing the yellowblood's name carried respect amongst the rebels. She was the makeshift lusus of the swamp, it sounded like. Tevini didn't understand what drew Vremea to want to take on so many children but was more than willing to let her babysit them.
Except this time Vremea had needed her help.
"May I come in? It's pouring, as you've heard." Rain overhead continued to drench the girl and she shivered miserably.

Eyzaak looked to the older troll as she seemed to be at a loss for what to say for a moment. His wide grin soon found it's away onto his lips aas she introduced herself. "Tevini huh? That's a cool name!" He complimented the redblood. When she mentioned the yellowblood the boy's brows furrowed in consideration. Vremea had always treated him kindly, although she had a lot of rules and liked to fuss him and the other kids. He respected the rebel matron, and even admired her. If she had truly sent the redblood in her place...he could at least try and humor the request. The key word of course was try. As Eyzaak wasn't sure what she meat exactly but he at least gave her a nod in consideration. If she knew Mama yellow, then Tevini as she called herself was okay by his books. "Yeah, yeah come on in. It's cool." He offered getting up as he grabbed a towel for her. Extending it, the small boy squinted up at her with a considering look. "You look cold...here." He shoved the towel at her before scampering over to pick up his pencils and few crayons he'd taken from the community center for his own. "Whatchya want by the way?" He asked rocking onto his heels as he peered at the other troll with that same impish smile he'd initially directed at her.

She was in. Accepting the towel, the girl moved further inside the hive until she felt satisfied he couldn't easily push her out. Now it was time to share her mission statement.
"I have been tasked with teaching you to read." Tevini stated very matter of factly. She wasn't thrilled by the assignment, having plenty of work to do, but Vremea had looked overworked when she'd requested her help. While Tevini didn't know the yellowblood very well personally, she knew that the woman wouldn't have asked for help unless she'd really needed it.
So what did that say about Eyzaak?
"There will be no complaining, shouting, or biting, understand?" The redblood gave her student a cautious look as she tried to assert authority. Tevini had never been very good at this, it was why she normally left it up to her partner.
"Now then, I brought some books and some paper. I guess we should start with the basics. Do you already know how to write?"

Eyzaak gave her a wide eyed considering look as she moved in further into the hive. His toothy grin stretched into a smirk until she mentioned her reason for being here. The smile dropped from the boy’s face. His eyes turned into a narrowed gaze. Eyzaak’s mouth opened and closed a few times in disbelief. His fists curled into tight balls in a display of annoyance. "I guess I'll listen to you. I don't NEED help…” He growled looking away. His eyes however flickered to lusus, with a sort of hopeful expression despite his bold words. The creature of course had begun snoring by this point, ignorant to his child's near temper tantrum. Sundry even rolled over stretching out rather lazily as if it was content to let the older troll deal with the problem. Frowning he looked back at Tevini. A flicker of something other than anger in his eyes was evident. Curiosity. He wanted to learn, his pride however made it incredible difficult to let his guard down. He actually paced for a moment, arms behind his back as he contemplated her offer. "I still can yell sometimes riiiight?” His eyes gleamed with mischievous delight. "Mmm.. I am pretty sick of Flutters making fun of me for being too dumb to read.." He glared at Tevini as if she'd make fun of him next. "If I don't like it...I won't listen to you." He noted in a matter of fact tone, although the smile behind it indicated he was kidding. A bright childish laugh followed as he hopped a few steps closer to look up at her. "Uhhh. Not really Miss Ini. Letter's like to switch places on me when I look at 'em." Eyzaak admitted cautiously as he pulled at the blue fabric around his neck suddenly, as if Eyz was embarrassed.

Only three rules and he was already trying to push the limits. Testing her. Watching the boy carefully, Tevini let him complain and laugh. Eventually he'd share important information with her. Which he did.
"The letters switch? So you do know what some of them are, you just have trouble with them put together?" She opened a notebook and clicked on a pen. Writing neat and tidy, she wrote out the trollian alphabet in large letters. When she was done, she turned the sheet toward him.
"Can you tell me what the letters are one at a time? We'll go slow." Tevini had a little work to do on her attempt at 'comforting' manner but she tried to give what she hoped was a reassuring smile.
Tried.

Eyzaak smiled almost innocently in a sweet way as he watched her. He knew he was pushing her buttons it was more to see what the older rebel girl was made out of. His happy expression turned to a slightly more serious one with her no nonsense attitude. "Yeah..I kinda recognize some but..” The small blueblood frowned impatiently at her as she seemed to be writing something down. "They don't go together always, and I forget 'em." He shrugged at her as if asking what the big deal was. He fidgeted as she wrote, before turning the sheet towards him. Pacing a bit he studied the text, rocking on his heels some as he contemplated even leaving his hive so he wouldn't have to answer her. Sighing as he imagined Vremea chewing him out, he looked at the series of letters as Eyz tried to discern a few of them. He gave it his best. Trying to name each of the 26 alphabet letters. Several he struggled with, but 15 of the 26 to have down memorized for someone who avoided the practice of reading wasn’t entirely terrible. "Are we done yet?" He asked as he finished up the last letter, looking at her hopeful she would run out of patience’s.

"We've only been at it for ten minutes!" Tevini scolded Eyzaak. She couldn't tell if he was resisting this because he was lazy, frustrated, or honestly bad with letters. Some trolls weren't good with the written word meanwhile others had actual disabilities. Which was the blueblood?
"I want you to practice these letters here. I've brought some flashcards to make things go faster." She wasn't sure if this was the best way to teach a child but Tevini needed to try and keep his attention while the novelty of learning was still intact. She picked out the remaining 11 letters Eyzaak had struggled with and went over them with him slowly.
"We can take a break once you get them all right, twice in a row." Dangling a reward in front of him, she hoped it'd entice her student to focus.

Eyzaak looked at her, shocked when she said it had only been ten minutes! "Ugh really?!" He looked at her with disbelief. Some of the letters really just looked like the other...and when put together they had a habit of switching places on him. "It seems like forever!" He whined in response, although her scolding at least calmed him enough to sit still. She was taking this pretty seriously..he could at least try and focus up. The difficulties he faced with reading didn't translate into his other learning categories. Eyzaak was remarkably good with numbers, and loved drawing. In a small way it felt nice she was willing to work with him. A lot of the other older trolls had a lot on their plates..it didn't help when he purposely threw things around, or outright left the learning facilities. The whole learning thing was fun he had to admit. If anything she was mad he wasn't trying. Wrinkling his nose at the flash cards he snatched them from her grasp to study them. The promise of a reward being dangled got him to take the stack of 11 cards right from her. He looked them over, squinting at the letters before he handed them back once they'd gone over them again. "MMmn...fine." Eyzaak replied, agreeing to try and knuckle down with her. She hadn't run away from him..he would try not only for the redblood sent to help him, but for himself namely. While annoyed, he actually sat still with her and began naming off each letter..although his frustration peeked as he switched O and Q around causing him to need another round. L's and T's shared a similar outcome. His fists balled tightly in his lap as he frowned, with a stubborn set to his jaw as he looked at her as his lower lip jutted out. "Am I dumb or something?" He growled as he looked away from Miss Ini as the boy walked over to one of his science magazines he'd stolen from the recreational room. The pictures were cool. "I do wanna learn how to make more stuff..but I need to read to do that right?" He sighed dramatically looking up at the girl as if for her to confirm.

"You're not dumb. You just need to practice." The boy looked really frustrated and discouraged. Tevini wasn't great at comforting others, nor encouraging, but she tried-no, practiced this now.
"I'm not going to sugarcoat this. You will need to learn to do a lot more than read if you want to learn how to built things." The redblood spoke slowly, choosing her words carefully. He'd surprised her with that magazine and his interest. She worried about what level of math he could do. In fact, could be even read numbers? Ngh, one problem at a time Tevini.
"But here's the thing. Reading, math, engineering... these are all skills that we aren't born with. So everyone has the potential to learn them. Sometimes we just learn in different ways." Tevini continued, a little embarrassed by how flowery her speech was sounding.
"So lets try this a different way. I want you to draw the shape of the letter here on this piece of paper and tell me what it makes you think of."

Eyzaak tilted his head at her, blinking curiously almost as she didn't agree with him and was even...nice? About it in a weird way how she responded back to him. The curl of his fists smoothed out as he looked up at her as she put it to him straight. "I like other stuff, numbers are eaaaaasy. They make sense." He drawled out somewhat dramatically. Enough that his lusus snorted and flopped another direction lazily. "I like tinkering with metal scraps..I just dunno what most of the words in these magazines say." He shrugged. Eyzaak usually tried to put things together and ignored instructions as it was. Most of his work was small and simple, he could only get his hands on so many resources at this age. "If I gotta practice more to do that...I guess that's a pretty good reason." The expression on Eyzaak's face brightened at her wordy speech. It was long, but he sort of got the idea. Even if it wasn't as quick as the other kids...she was right. He just was learning differently he liked the sound of that. He eye'd the pen in his hand, debating on throwing it for effect to see what she'd do. He'd wait. For now he humored the girl and clumsily drew out first the O and Q. "The Q looks like a sword!" He grinned suddenly. "The O...looks like a eyeball hehe!" He sloppily drew out a K and X for comparison without her asking. Alternian language was complex; several of the shapes were similar. Next he did the same fot T and I. "I is a nail..and T looks like a flap beast." Eyzaak mused as his feet swung back and forth while he practiced.

"Very good. Now that you've noted some of the different characteristics, you can associate them with the letters." Tevini nodded, hoping it would make sense to him. She was still learning how to teach someone- not having done so before. As he looked things over once more, she glanced around his hive curiously. Did he have a collection of more magazines around here that he couldn't read? Any metal scraps? A glint of silver caught her eye and Tevini got up and walked over to examine it.
"Break time. Eyzaak, what is this?" Pulling the device out to get a better look, Tevini looked it over.
