Moving in the midst of winter promised Disaster and Isaiah knew it. He could not, however, justify staying any longer in Gwen's company. Doing so only antagonized an already strained relationship between the pair and jeopardized the slow recovery process that Isaiah endured. So, with moving in mind, Isaiah braved the algid winter elements to settle errands pertaining to the relocation process. He contacted real estate agents to secure a closer move-in date, researched various moving groups to determine which suited his particular needs, and set up a much-needed PO box for interim mail deliveries and as a means of self-protection.
All of these ventures proved draining to his painfully low energy reservoir. By the time he was en route to UPS, he nodded off in the taxi twice. Now, with the bitter cold forcing him awake, he yearned to escape the chill (and all other moving requirements for that day) and retire to the couch. As soon as he left the confines of the taxi, winter promised otherwise.
The howling gusts grew far more fierce than what he remembered, and Isaiah kicked himself for not watching the weather while in the car. Now, blustering winds tore at his coat and rent branches from the naked trees in cold fury. Snow whipped about to sting exposed skin, visibility dropped to obscure needed cover, and the winter's bite left him stiff and fighting for simple steps through the frozen wasteland. Seldom had he ever endured a winter day this bleak, and Isaiah hated having to fight through it. I'm not built for this anymore, he complained to himself as he hiked through the sidewalk snows. It would've been so much easier had the Negaverse just killed me. No more snowstorms, no more aching leg, no more dentures, no more being an invalid.
Isaiah approached the side of the small colonial house, where a narrow addition provided an enclosed staircase to the second-story apartment. The normally red door looked greyed and pale in the winter weather, as if frozen beneath a layer of ice. Numbed fingers fumbled for keys in his coat pocket, and once withdrawn, Isaiah fought to manipulate them with slow, stubborn muscles. As he tried to fit his housekey into the frigid gold deadbolt, it simply slipped off the surface.
The lock was completely frozen.
"This is ******** ridiculous," he hissed to the storming weather. Finally he resorted to kicking the door. "Gwen? Gwen! I can't get in; the door's frozen shut! Gwen!" He knew trying to call his roommate was a moot point; between the howling gusts and the distance created by the staircase, she would never hear him. So what, then? Was he to leave and try to hide out at the nearest coffee shop, a mile and a half away? With a cane? Isaiah decided he'd rather freeze in the snow.shanyume hopefully this works for a start! sorry, my brain is kinda all over the place. please let me know if you need more info / if anything needs to be changed!

On the other side of the street Breana slowly trudged her way through the building snow, teeth chattering so fiercely she was sure that she chipped a tooth. “Ss-ss-stupid-d-d B-b-bus-s-s.” she muttered under her breath. Rerouted due to inclement weather only to break down several blocks from the nearest small transfersation. An unamused expression splayed across her face as she exhaled into her cupped hands, finding some semblance of relief from the nippy wind even if it only lasted for a millisecond. That is when she heard it, a voice from across the street hollering to someone inside who couldn’t hear. “Ohh-h-h crap-p-p.” She groaned knowing that what she was about to do was going to suck in the worst way. After pulling out her phone to send a quick text to her sister asking Fi to throw a few blankets in the car, Breana grabbed one of the small single unit trash cans and dragged it over beside one of the cars to use as cover before powering up. Holy s**t… i can do this. Ok … ahh IT’S SO COLD! Open toed shoes with a billowing skirt and bare stomach oh lord what was she getting herself into other than a hot tub when she got home. Like the person who’d stand on the edge of the pool trying to psyche themselves into jumping into the cold water it too took Eleonora a second, or five, to finally stand up and sprint across the street as quickly as she could. “F-f-forgiv-v-ve me, B-but I think I c-can help you g-get insid-de.” The Senshi of Heat stammered, struggling to speak a full coherent sentence so the guy didn’t get spooked and god forbid throw his keys at her or something thinking she was a terrorist out to do him harm. Strickenized Your start worked beautifully, thank you for writing it!

No response, as expected. With a long sigh, Isaiah pinned his cane between his leg and the door and fumbled in his pea coat for his cell phone. He realized quickly that he had to reach across his own body to pluck it out of his right pocket - a habit he still entertained - and he cursed to himself once more.
Before he managed it, however, a girl that looked ready to freeze to the ground invaded his doorstep. He stared at her dumbfoundedly, his shock and concern blatant in his features. "No, you can't. You look like you're about to drop dead of hypothermia! Who the hell let you wear something like that outside?" Your tits are out, for ******** sake. Your nipples ought to be cutting glass about now. Actually… Cutting glass would be really useful here.
His dentures chattered lightly with the surge of a shiver, much like the constant shakes that the girl sustained. Isaiah dug his keys out once more and handed them to her. "Here, hold there. I can heat them up with my lighter…" Isaiah started to undo the top buttons of his coat, and dig around the scarf within, "I'd have done it myself but there's no easy way to go about it with one hand." He found little use in trying to conceal that fact when one empty coat sleeve flapped about in the wind, obviously lacking an arm to anchor it. Besides, she looked about dead on her feet. What would she care if he looked disfigured?
"We might have to do it a few times," Isaiah repressed a chuckle, "but it should melt the lock eventually." Really, he should've stayed in Chicago.
Screw New York, and screw Destiny City.
Especially Destiny City.

Eh heh… cute. If it was possible to sweat drop like those cartoons there would have been a big one above her head from the comment he made about her outfit. It wasn’t like she had a say in her uniform choice. A sad fact Athene and Liryn confirmed when she had first awakened a little over a year ago. “B-before you s-start mess-sing around with a li-lighter, why-y don’t y-you let me t-try my way f-f-first?” Eleonora paused for just a moment as if waiting for confirmation that it was okay to try but her bouncing kneecaps felt like they were about to fall off if she didn’t get back in her jeans and snowshoes soon. “Here!” she held her hand out from him to take the set of keys back undisturbed by his missing arm. “I don’t-t want to melt-t your k-keychain by m-mistake.” Let him figure out which key would open the lock while she took care of the ice. One hand grabbed ahold of the door knob, least it refused to turn, while the other was placed upon the lock. “T-Touch of heat…” Just like every other time she had used her magic, Eleonora's hands both took on a reddish tint and from where the little snowflakes landed a wisp of steam rose before being carried off by the wind. Melting like hot tears down a distraught childs face the ice beneath her hands did as she hoped it would do. However, in light of how cold it was, the Senshi of Heat remained unsure how long she’d have to keep her hand in place to get all the ice out of the keyhole, worst case scenario she’d try it again. Hesitantly she pulled her hand back from the lock then turned her attention back to the guy beside her. For a brief moment she felt oddly self conscious for a reason she couldn’t explain but shook it off quickly when a harsh shiver raced up her spine. “Can you T-try your k-key? Careful n-not to touch the l-lock. I don’t want-t you to get burned p-please.” Despite struggling to sound concerned, Eleonora really did not want him to get hurt, even if by mistake. In the meantime, however, while her toes had long since gone numb she could at least hover her hand above her arm for the remaining few seconds her magic lasted. Strickenized Definitely not a problem. My husband and roommate have been watching TV behind me ;_; makes it hard to concentrate on RPing. Let me know if this reply works or if there is anything I should change.

"And what happens to be your way?" Isaiah asked with a cocked brow. He received the keys nonetheless and stood back in case she planned something moderately explosive; he knew he should caution against such things for fear of losing the security deposit, but he'd hardly have to care about that if he died of hypothermia. Hell, even if she blasted off half the house, he wouldn't care so long as he had heat.
Then she spoke words unrelated to their conversation, and her hands surged red in response. He recognized the instance of magic immediately - and the consequent fear left him numb. "A senshi? Were you followed here?" Nervous glances back into the storm confirmed little more than whiteness beyond fifteen feet. Her magic proved effective, however, and within minutes, the lock looked melted and ready for use. Isaiah refused to hesitate, as the bone-chilling cold quickly stripped through all the layers he accumulated from New York. The senshi looked about ready to die herself.
Isaiah manipulated the key in his hand over what felt like ages. His fingers hardly moved despite how hard he tried to force them through the motions. Finally, he aligned the key with the lock and forced it in, hearing all the tumblers click with a sense of relief. With a turn, the door unlocked. He bothered not with pulling the key out of the lock. Instead, he turned the knob and shoulder checked the door as hard as he could. The ice retained its vicious hold on the door, and Isaiah could not gain entry. "I'll need your help one more time here. I know you're probably stronger than me, so help me kick the door in." The ice held too sure a grip over the material, and Ice wondered if the door itself would shatter before the ice did. So much for having a warm house.
"And if you have five minutes, stick around and I'll make you some coffee." A minor consolation, but a useful one; he hardly believed that good samaritans still existed in the powered folk, and he wanted to explore the whys of it before she took off to help some other poor sot break into their own home.

Eleonora eyeballed the guy warily as he struggled with grabbing ahold of his house key. After calling her out for being... well... what she was, a senshi instead of a terrorist, it made her wonder what side he was on. Although the senshi of heat had a skeptical look on her face she nodded her head. Once more she summoned her ability and this time ran her palms along the seam of the door to thin the ice out some before trying to force it open. The last thing he needed was for her to accidentally rip off the frame or damage the hinges in a way that made it so it couldn’t be shut again. “I ap-preciate the off-ffer,” more than she could properly express with frost bitten toes that had long since gone numb having been buried in the snow that piled up concrete walkway. “But I hav-ve to ask-k.” Eleonora began as she took ahold of the knob and, once she found her footing, threw her weight into the door. Rewarded by the blessed sound of ice cracking as the door swung open and she stumbled inside the senshi flashed the young man a smile as she exhaled a sigh of relief. “S-sorry ab-bout that. Any- anyway, what I was trying to say-y.” One last shiver rushed up her spine and in its wake a wave of goosebumps ran the length of both her arms. Annoy but not unexpected given the attire she was forced to wear when powered up; if only she were as lucky as her sister. “I don’t think you want me in your house like this. You know what I am, so does that mean you're one of us too? And if so, what are you?” Forward in her question but then again Eleonora was not one to beat around the bush and rather prefered to get straight to the point. Athene, Liryn and even her sister Alcor had cautioned her about the dangers of powering up in anyone's home but more than that she had to be careful on who she shared her identity with. ‘Always be wary’ they’ve said ‘you never know who could be an agent of chaos.’ Either way it wouldn’t have deterred her from helping him get inside, nobody deserved to freeze to death. Strickenized Thank you for your patience, I apologize for the delay. I had an emergency that ended up consuming most of my weekend but it seems things have settled down now.

When the pair got inside, Isaiah shut the door as soon as humanly possible. The warmth of the house greeted them by defrosting cheeks almost immediately, and while he could not yet move his fingers much, he felt the burn of the drastic temperature change. While the senshi shivered through her statements, Isaiah blew on his fingers to regain a little circulation. Wincing, he flexed them around the empty knuckle.
He breathed a slow sigh with the advent of her question. He expected such an inquiry; it only made sense to ensure the identity of the person she was with before dropping henshin. Still, part of him wanted to confirm that he was nothing at all, make the hot beverages and send her on her way. "I am a knight. I don't think there's much purpose in powering up to demonstrate - I think that may cause more harm than it's worth - and if you don't believe me for that, I understand. So, you can either power down and stick around for the storm to blow over, or I can make you some hot chocolate or coffee in a thermos and send you back out the door, identity intact. The choice is yours, and there's no crazy entrapment clause hidden in there somewhere." Isaiah tamped out the ice from the base of his cane and hung it on the coat rack. Next came his own heavy winter coat, which hung over the top of it.
Isaiah approached the kitchen with a slight limp. He made efforts to walk normally, as he knew limping only incurred further damage, but the pain of an arthritic joint promised him trouble anyway.
"To be honest, I'm surprised that you're out there helping. It's a unique use of your powers, certainly, but compared to the other senshi I've met, you're quite different from the rest. In fact, one of the first senshi I encountered mistook me for a Negaverse agent and attacked me." He rifled cupboards at a much slower pace with his non-dominant hand. Still, he managed to claim the cocoa packets, coffee beans, and disposable coffee filter without incident. "I've met nice ones to outweigh that incident, but none really came running to help civilians unless there was a youma involved. I guess compassion isn't dead yet."shanyume i hope everything / everyone is okay! and don't worry about the delay; since we hit 500 words the RP becomes no longer time sensitive

While in the doorway Eleonora leaned over to use the hem of her skirt to wipe the droplets of melted ice and snow off her bare legs before proceeding into his home any further. “I certainly hope it’s not dead. With the holidays are just around the corner and people without power because of the storm I really do hope people step up and help out if they’re able to.” The Senshi of Heat stood on the threshold leading into the kitchen and watched as her host gathered the beverage options. “I’m sorry for sounding so naive, I haven't had a chance to speak to any knights before. But there’s something I don’t get it. If you’re a Knight couldn’t they have just sensed your aura and tell that you two were on the same side?” It seemed logical enough but perhaps it was more of a ‘you had to of been there’ type moments. Despite being in the throes of a huge battle in the dimension Cadeus had sent everyone even she was able to tell who was on the side of Order and who served Chaos. It was hard, yes, and took some effort but doable nonetheless. “Ah…” She held her hands up briefly before he could reply. “Forgive me for being so rude. I have a tendency of just leaping into the Q n’ A without actually introducing myself. My name is Eleonora, well my powered name is.” Ele stepped forward and reached out her left hand towards him in a formal greeting. Strickenized Here you go! I hope this reply works. "People step up and help out when they're singled out," Isaiah grumbled under his breath. He carried a marked distaste for the general populace in emergency situations, especially in a shithole like DC. He chose not to air these complaints, however; Eleonora was not here for airing grievances against humanity at large.
He listened from the kitchen while Eleonora wound through her question. The girl wasn't powering down, and he thought no worse of her for it. If Isaiah met himself as a separate person, he wouldn't bother powering down either. "You've seen those reaction tests they give to police officers, right? The ones in the movies where there's these pop-up villains that they have to shoot, and hostages that they're supposed to avoid shooting. I like to think that's a competition between the feedback of movement and the feedback of color. When something moves, the cop has the urge to shoot it, and his brain is reading the color of the moving thing at the same time. Color takes more time to process, of course, and he better hope it registers in time that he avoids shooting one of the hostages.
"And, I think, auras versus looks might be the same. She saw me, decided I looked Negaverse enough for a beatdown, and focused on that instead of the conflicting message that a Squire was facing her down. I think it's a wonder it hasn't happened since." He turned from the counter then, and looked over his guest.
The pallor to her skin belied her drop in body temperature. Gooseflesh and shivers plagued her much the same. He imagined she was miserable out there in such a summery outfit. "Eleonora, then." He hesitated as he decided which name would better suit an introduction. The options weighed against his status as a coerced Negaverse contact. Did he offer his knight name, knowing the questions it might raise? He should, he supposed. He already broached that topic by stating he was a knigh in the first place. "Scholomance, of Saturn." He offered a four-fingered handshake. "Or you can call me ice.
"Now, pick your poison." He nodded back toward the tea, coffee, and hot chocolate sitting on the counter.shanyume i will keep that in mind!

“Mmm, Cocoa please. If I drink coffee now it’ll be a few hours before I’ll be able to go to bed.” The Senshi of Heat commented idly not wanting their conversation to fall into that awkward mode. For what it was worth he seemed fairly nice, appreciative at the very least for helping him get inside. Mentally mulling over the names he had offered she couldn’t help but feel like the first one sounded vaguely familiar. “You know, I feel like I’ve heard your name before in reference to a game one of my co-workers play. That one they turned into a movie earlier this year. World of something or other.” She shrugged since she wasn’t a gamer. “Speaking of worlds…” The senshi paused. “have you visited it yet? Scholomance?” Eleonora asked intrigued about what it might be like since she had yet to discover her own.

"Cocoa it is." Making cocoa proved a relatively simple endeavor, even for one hand, so he set the pan to low heat and filled it with milk.
While they waited, he entertained her comment with a wry smirk. "You're right. It's World of Warcraft, or so Google tells me." Turning, he leaned against the length of counter. "It's a five-man something-or-other. Raid, I think?" Not that I'd mind five men raiding me. Or women. "My guess is the game picked it up from the Brahm Stoker novel. But for as much as I can tell, Scholomance does not have a lot to do with either of these." Briefly he considered launching into what information he knew of the earthbound Scholomance, but doing so assumed that she showed interest in such topics. Not many enjoyed history, especially of locations so seldom seen as these.
"I've been to it, yes. Several times. It's a weapons research facility built with a lot of checks and clearances. Not a lot there besides a crazy ancestor. It's all…" He paused, breathed, and forced a smile. "Well. It's probably quite boring to go into any of that.
"Have you been to yours? Eleonora, I mean. From the way you're dressed, I should hope it's a lot warmer than here." Otherwise she was bound to freeze regardless of where she found herself. As he waited, he stirred the milk.

Before she could inquire more about his ancestor Ice had deferred the question back to her. Perhaps if time allowed she would ask more on the topic since it was never something Athene or Liryn had mentioned before. “I have not…” She admitted in an almost wistful manner. “I keep meaning to but I’m kind of nervous about the whole going into space thing and it’s been near impossible to convince my sister to go with me since she’s still not to keen on powering up. I don’t blame her but it’s kind of disappointing you know?” A part of her would like to say Fiona is still warming up to the idea but that would be a stretch unless their Eternal friend or little Mauvian were there as well. “Anyway I like to imagine it is more of a tropical place like the Bahamas or Figi.” God wouldn’t that be nice With her luck however it’d be more like the Sahara however, that is assuming it was hot there at all. “You know, I think - if the weather keeps up like this much longer I might need to just suck it up and go without her.” Eleonora shrugged her shoulders with a smile on her face. The idea was tempting at least though she highly doubted she’d go through with it. Strickenized Your reply had me laughing so hard when I read it. I loved it xD.

"So go yourself," he answered simply. "If senshi are anything like knights, then your planet is your source of power. It has no business trying to kill you." Ancestors, on the other hand…
The milk heated quickly, and Isaiah wasted little time pouring it into mugs. Milk froth hadn't yet formed on the surface, so hot cocoa mixed in smoothly after he tore a package with his teeth. When the froth returned without spare flecks of unmelted chocolate, he handed the cup out to the visiting senshi. "It's good to have an ally, like your sister. I've always worried, though, because traveling together indicates an existing partnership to the Negaverse. They're more astute than I gave them credit for."
Ice mixed his own hot chocolate in a matter of moments. He hovered over it momentarily, considered the validity of his question, then asked it regardless. "Senshi… I don't know too much about them. I've not been to a great deal of senshi worlds, but of the ones I visited, I don't remember ever seeing an ancestor. Do you know of any senshi with ancestors? Or are they mostly reincarnated, like Hvergelmir? I think she mentioned taking in glimpses of the past at times, when she visited her wonder. It's an interesting method of information inheritance. I wonder myself if it's more useful than having someone you can actively question." Memories can't often lie to you - they only bend their perspective.
I wonder - how much differently would things have turned out if I was reincarnated? Perhaps it's moot to even think it.

Eleonora shrugged her shoulders yet nodded in agreement to his straight forward answer. He had a valid point, she could go it alone but it wasn’t that simple, at least in her mind it wasn’t; plus where was the fun in exploring alone? Either way she didn’t want to argue the point as she found the the path their conversation was heading to be quite interesting and informative. Testing the temperature of the hot cocoa with her top lip before taking a sip she hummed thoughtfully while trying to recall past conversations with the Eternal Senshi of Beads or Liryn. “You know, I don’t think Athene has ever mentioned there being an ancestor on his homeworld before.” In truth he hadn’t really talked much of the place since she had awakened a year ago; then again she wasn’t active in asking. “Times like this I wish that I knew more powered individuals so i could offer more insight. While I know there are several out there it wasn’t really an appropriate time to start asking for contact information when I last saw so many together.” The look on her face showed her disappointment but she spoke no more of the incident or timeframe at which it occurred. “Anywho, I’m curious what you meant a second ago... when you mentioned a partnership to the Negaverse.” After taking another sip of her cocoa she continued. “How do they tie into any of this? What’s their role?” They were an unknown faction to her, a mysterious conundrum whose agenda she knew next to nothing about aside from the fact they held an important object of sorts that belonged to the knights and an alarming amount of starseeds, most of which had been returned to the cauldron when they were all whisked away to the moon.

"That's interesting. I don't know why there wouldn't be any ancestors, however." Ice spoke mostly to hismelf here; his interest in such methods remained more of a private one. Perhaps most of that stemmed from his tepid interactions with Blaine and his great distrust for his ancestor.
"Next time you find a bunch, I suggest making it a point to ask for everyone to exchange contact information. They're usually congregating for a reason, and that reason can only be helped thorugh a wider band of networking. After all, what's the point of being a 'faction' at all if every member just gets isolated?" He considered such logic the reason behind his own detachment from the Knighthood. Much of the knights operated on their own terms, it was true, but so many of them chose to ally exclusively with senshi. At the time, Scholomance had other ideas - and he saw no reason to join them now, for all their lack of assistance. No knight stood to assist him in the endeavor that fully understood his position.
She asked about the Negaverse, however, and Ice loosed a slow sigh through his nose. Explaining the Negaverse demanded a particular type of bias that he could not personally manfiest.
Briefly he thought of Kithairon, and his last explanation of the Negaverse. "I don't want to waste your time by explaining to you about the parts of their organization you already know. Can you tell me what you've learned of the Negaverse from your allies? I'm certain they've mentioned the name, else you wouldn't know it.
"And before I begin telling you anything, you should know that I'm not very typical of most knights. THey usually ally themselves with White Moon aims and find those to be more conducive to their own. I did the opposite - I chose to make deals with the Negaverse as a coherent organization as complared with the splinter factions within the White Moon and Knighthood. So, the information I can give you is from a very different perspective than someone who is more, ah, typical of a knight."
