The arrow sat nocked, the bow holding the brunt of the tensions in its body. Shale waited in a wholly familiar pose, one foot braced against one of the boughs of the old cedar tree while he looked down the sight of his weapon. Beyond the cameo-painted arms, the fiber optic sight, the broadhead tip, he watched his target. The forest remained still. The sounds of the city remained at their great distance, unwilling or unable to interrupt the heavy lull in the forest.
Attached to his hip were two squirrels and a chipmunk, bound in rope and left hanging for later field dressing. While close, they did not reach his mind. Shale dedicated his thoughts to his position, his angle, the direction of the wind, and the wild turkey below; these were his only concerns. No aspect of the war could - or would - touch him here. He preferred it this way.
Shoulders tightened and the thumb on his release gained pressure as his shot now lined up with the turkey’s heart. From above, the shot proved difficult to line up, and now he need only loose the arrow-
The turkey froze, alert, then fled from the clearing as quickly as its legs could carry it. Shale retired the shot, his attention now pulled to the forest itself, and he spied the source of the disturbance: a feathered chameleon shape emerged from the underbrush at a quick clip. The creature appeared to pay no heed to the turkey he disturbed - in fact, it looked single-minded in its frantic darting to and fro on feverish legs. Shale recognized it as youma, and as prey.
A youma has only one predator. He waited in his hunting blind for the hunter to make its debut.meighei stage is set for alpha lep to debut! please let me know if i should change anything!

She'd finally found one. Aura was sure of it. The girl was certain it couldn't be anything else. Brushing the pen with a confident finger, she released the energy inside and transformed herself into her senshi form as she chased the small, agile chameleon-like creature into the forest. Sailor Alpha Leporis had wanted to find a youma since the moment she had heard about them while using her new phone's features. They were supposed to be uncommon, but not too hard to find for a senshi. It had taken her longer than she had hoped to locate this one and she wasn't going to let it get away now. She so wanted to catch the little monster and learn about it first-hand that she didn't notice someone else was near and that that someone was more likely to view her as prey than any creature native to this forest. α

He would not have to wait long.
Soon after the youma passed through his watch, another figure pursued it quickly. Bright silver hair and a cast of limbs passed, and Umber guessed the assailant as a senshi of some kind. A breath and a moment of inward concentration traded one identity for the next, and Umber crouched within the hunting blind as he traced their auric dance. While they were still near, he noted the youma's erratic changes in direction - clearly it panicked. And just as clearly, the girl chased it with no obvious pattern to her attempting to catch it.
While one youma was no great loss, one senshi proved a viable target - either as a starseed to add to their collection or a new recruit to recover their ranks. For this, Umber descended the blind abruptly and set into the forest in search of this adversary. He transitioned from trees to ground to trees with relative ease, avoiding noisy thickets and weak branches alike. His experience in the woods allowed for quicker travel than the occasional visitor, and a general's speed outstripped a basic senshi's well enough to place him into their range on short notice. Still, he felt the youma - it hadn't yet perished to its pursuer.
When he took to the trees a last time, he did so to overtake his target. In judging distances, he aimed to drop down near enough to her that she would stop in her tracks to face him if she did not realize his foreboding signature beforehand.
Usually, the latter occurred. He would prepare for both regardless.meighei do you have alpha lep's powered art anywhere? i could not find it in her journal!

The senshi stopped instantly in her tracks. Now the air was quiet, but even she thought she had heard a rustling in the trees. However, she didn't hear it now like whatever was causing it had stopped too. No one else should be out here. The senshi reassured herself. Certainly, it was the wind. Yet she couldn't help but feel a vague sense of something else in the vastness of the forest around her. Had see been more experienced, she would have recognized the signature immediately. But she was so single-mindlessly focused on the youma that she hadn't. Now she stood quite still, breathing heavy, trying to sense the pretense she had thought existed a moment ago. She didn't know she was trespassing on another's hunting ground. And, this time, she wasn't the hunter. α

Perhaps it was fortune that allowed him the chance to close the distance on the senshi. Paths crossed, branches descended, trunks lighted upon and he arrived nigh upon the senshi below - a girl with a head of silver hair, bright garb, and no obvious signs of sphere. It wouldn't matter, he decided.
If she survived, her magic would come. This felt like a guarantee of late. They would nonetheless retain a catalogue of it.
Umber dropped then, aiming to land strait atop the girl's shoulders and flatten her to the ground. He did not yet have his weapon summoned - he needn't resort to it yet. If possible, he preferred to reach her starseed through her back and end this game of chase before a battle unwound.meighei sorry it's super short but i'd rather write short posts than overstep any battle bounds!

She could taste the dry dust of dirt on her lips before she knew what had forced her to the ground. Her back hit the forest floor hard and she felt a shock of pain course down her spine as she braced for the impact. Her eyes closed. But only for a moment. "What the hell--!"Angry and feisty grey-blue eyes fixated on the creature - no, man - on top of her. She barely recognized who was on top of her as her rage at the sudden attack swelled. She practically spit the words out at the oddly clad man without thinking. "I lost my damn quarry because of--!"The word you never did come from the senshi's mouth. It didn't have to. Her now dilating eyes said it for her. The man who had her pinned to the ground was an agent of the Negaverse and the situation was much worse than simply loosing her prey. Now - she swallowed the saliva left in her mouth - she was the prey. α

This one was brash, he found, as she belted out curses in retaliation. The abrupt end to her comment was not missed; this one must have only recently deduced his identity as an agent. New, perhaps. Too new.
There were solutions for the new ones.
"Your name." His voice sounded graveled, unused. Over his arm materialized a short gauntlet, and a swift click sent both blades facing outward, toward her neck. Umber allowed one of the blades to brush against the skin, enough to communicate the danger of her situation. She might struggle, he knew. The damage was inconsequential if she jerked back into the blade. "And sphere."
He could tag this one and let her loose. Perhaps she would curse and spit and scream about the general who cost her a youma and left her beaten and bloodied. She might even attract a few friends in saying so. Senshi were reliably protective of one another, he found. Many times they proved willing to trade their own lives to protect another. So let her hiss and spit to the remainder of her kind. Then, the real quarry would come.
A worthwhile tactic, he decided. And if she had enough spunk to fight back, then his plan might work even better.

"Alpha Leporis." She replied to the hunter, but her voice was rough with the wind from her lungs gone. "Of hares." For a moment, she was still. Perhaps she was still contemplating her situation. Maybe planning an escape. Or... "And your name?"Neither. She had been catching her breath. For a question. Alpha Leporis stared down the tip of the blade. She didn't make eye contact with the man. Just the weapon. But she didn't look scared. She looked surprisingly indignant as if she was more annoyed at the incovincence than worried for her life. "I am going to need to know what to call you."α

Alpha Leporis of Hares. Hairs? I need to see her attack to know.
But Umber saw no reason for an exchange of information. Looking down at his catch, he saw nothing but blatant defiance in the face of vulnerability. She learned nothing of how ill she fared in such a position, facing a general as she did, and saw fit to ask after his name. Were he not so predisposed against corrupting senshi, he would have accepted her into the fold for such boldness.
Instead, he pressed forth with his blade until it anchored itself deeply into her shoulder and boiled over with the first rivulets of blood. His silence was his answer.
Finally, he wrenched his blade from her slickly, and straightened up from smothering her. Perhaps it was folly to let her free, but he needed to see if her boldness would urge her to cast on him. "Run," he commanded, and waited for her reaction. She would fight or she would adhere to his command - though he expected the former. Doing so would only contribute to his database entry. meighei typed one handed with a cat, sorry about brevity

She was just as silent as he was as the blade slid so neatly into her shoulder. It smarted quite a bit. Yet she didn't let out even a gasp. Clearly, this was all that would be the man's answer to her question and she wasn't going to give him any satisfaction if he wasn't going to play fair. How rude, she thought as he removed the blade with precision. She had given her own name, after all. Maybe this hunter had no intention of playing before the real game began. Then why the hell was he telling her to run? "Well, how do you want it?" She stumbled to her feet and immediately placed a hand to her shoulder as the warm blood began to flow in earnest by her movement. It flowed down to her finger tips and she watched it as it dropped slowly to the ground. That arm would be useless for now. She didn't get this man. Why wound her if he was going to let her get way? Why let her stand when he had her pinned? Why tell her to run when his look said he wasn't finished with her? Alpha Leporis smiled despite the visible pain. She thought she understood now. "I'll run and you can chase me, if that's what you're into."She'd run. Let's see if he could keep up. α
