Sol had been traveling with his Papa for a while now. While they're trip was slowly coming to an end, the young teenager found himself actually dreading going back home. As much as he had fussed about leaving his icy home initially he had come to love Sauti just as much as Callum, even if it did have far less snow than he would have liked.

And once he was home...everything would change. How long would he be able to hide his 'problem' from his family? From his fathers? And Ygraine! It wouldn't be the first time he lied to his family, but it would definitely be the hardest one to keep up. Sol would have to be on guard at all times, using the sensory abilities of his antennae to keep up with his environment and -

-and he was already stressed out.

He paced back and forth just outside of the inn his Papa had picked to stay in for a few days. His boots had already worn out a trail, which was comforting in a way, since he wasn't apt to accidentally trip over anything. But he wouldn't be at risk anyway if his stupid eyes actually wor-

"Umph!" Sol tripped over his own foot and fell down onto his face, letting out first a shocked cry then a frustrated curse.

Makani was sitting outside of the inn, head tilted back, enjoying the warmth that was coming from the sun. It was getting colder these days but if one went out at the right times there was still warmth to be had from the autumn sun. Having already gotten his chores done for today there wasn't too much for the sage to do other then relax and enjoy himself, which in his mind meant doing as little as possible save for chatting up the various patrons of his sister's inn. If he was lucky he'd be able to duck out of doing a stage show as well as he always felt a little odd when he did them.

The sage was half dozing off in the sun where he was sitting when heard a series of cries a shocked one that was followed by a frustrated one. Pushing to his feet he allowed some magic flow around his feet before he started forward toward where the sound had come from. Best to check on things, make sure that nobody was fighting, though from the sounds of it the two cries had come from only one person.

"Are you quite alright?" The fox eyed sage asked of the one that seemed to be laid out on the ground near to the inn, "You didn't hurt yourself did you?"

Sol pushed himself up onto his hands and knees, reaching one hand up to check on his nose. It was a little nose, but nothing seemed...broken...For a moment he simply looked at the ground, his antennae flickering back and forth, getting a feel on something strange coming closer.

It felt natural and yet, so very unnatural at the same time. Almost like the lightning that popped off his Papa's magical sword, but he couldn't see anything, so why...?

When he heard the spoken words, Sol looked up, unconsciously squinting his eyes to make out the vague figure in front of him. The closer the man came to him the easier he was to figure out.

At least, physically. Where was that strange feeling coming from? Subconsciously his body was picking up on Makani's magic, even if his mind couldn't keep up. "No, I'm fine," he grumbled, finally pushing himself back up to his feet. "My jaws a little sore, but...It was just a fall, I'm fine."

As the young man before him said that he was fine he gave a smile, "I am glad to hear that, I would feel bad if you were to get hurt at our inn." He said, certain that his sister would be quite worried if someone were to get hurt at her establishment, especially while she was away from home seeking a carpenter to help with the expansion.

"Your jaw is sore? Poor thing, did you hit it during your fall?" He asked, lifting one hand up, reaching out to allow his hand to hover alongside the young man's cheek, allowing his magic to flow from his finger tips so that he could check on his injuries. If it was anything severe he would be certain to heal it right away, not wanting to leave him hurting. As it was even if it were nothing worth worrying about he could still offer the new comer a bit of assistance, it wasn't as though he was doing anything else at the moment after all.

Giving a smile he offered to the one before him, "If you like I can help ease the pain. No reason to deal with it if you don't have to after all."

Our inn...? Sol's eyes widened. This must be the proprietress' brother. Papa had mentioned something along those lines earlier, but with all of his internal stressing Sol hadn't paid it much mind.

"I think so-"
If left alone he may have sported a bruise the next day, along with some soreness. Sol merely sucked in his breath, watching as best he could to the spectacle in front of him. The strangeness...was coming from his fingertips! "You're...a magic user?" He had never seen magical healing before; nor had he ever had it used on him. It left him a little nervous, but also a little eager.

"...If you want, you can try."

Makani gave a chuckle and a nod of his head, "Yes, I can assure you that I have been using magic for some time so you needn't worry that I will mess up." He didn't want to worry his young patient after all. Best that he knew that Makani was someone that he could trust with such a thing. The wound was such that he didn't even think that he would need his runes for the spell. Just a simple healing spell he thought to himself as he gathered the needed energy into his hand and then laid it against the boy's cheek.

"It might feel a little odd, magical healing always does since it's just speeding up a body's natural healing abilities to a rapid pace. Since it's a minor wound though it shouldn't last too long." He said before casting the simple healing spell, just a low level version called 'Health' would be called for when it came to such a minor wound. Once the spell had been cast he asked, "How's it feeling? Any better?"

"Oh, that's not what..." Sol trailed off and cleared his throat. He didn't want to be rude by saying 'oh no, that just explains why I got weird vibes from you'. Not only could that be construed as an insult, but it still didn't explain why it made sense. How had he been able to point that out...?

Was it just something magic did or...?

"It feels a lot better, thank you." The whole process was odd, but strangely comforting. As if a little bit of his frustration had been ebbed out in the wake of this new curiosity. "I'm sorry but...are you blind? I've never seen you open your eyes, and...there really is no good way to ask that."

Makani gave a smile, patting him on the shoulder before he said, "I'm glad to hear that." He was about step away, feeling that it was all that was needed of him when the boy was suddenly asking him if he was blind in a manner that was refreshingly blunt. Better then those out there that danced around the issue he thought to himself. Giving a bit of a chuckle he said, "I am, you're pretty observant. There have been some in the past that I've had whole conversations with that completely missed it."

"There really isn't a simple way to ask but it's not a question that really bothers me since I have been this way since forever." Lifting a hand he gave it a little wave as though dismissing the idea that it might have bothered him. Perhaps when he was a youngling but it was something he quickly grew out of, "No reason to be sensitive about it."

Had his skin not been so dark naturally Sol's flush may have been visible. Of course, not like it would have mattered, since the other man was blind.

"So you didn't lose your sight? It's just always been that way?" The way he said it was almost wistful in a way. Sol couldn't help but to wonder how things would be if he had been born without sight; if he didn't have to taste the world's visual beauty only to have it stripped from him right when he needed it most.

"And...not a lot of people notice?" If this man kept it hidden for the most part, then maybe Sol could do the same. That was the hope anyway; the less people that new the better.

Makani gave a nod of his head, "Yes, I was born without sight..." He trailed off, giving a thoughtful sound in his throat before he found himself asking in a curious manner, "Are you... alright?" There was something about that wistful tone in his voice that had the sage questioning if he was really alright or not. He didn't want to pry but he felt that there might be something more on the boy's mind then just curiosity about his lack of sight. Perhaps he knew someone with a similar condition to his own? Hmm, maybe... though there was the question about him losing his sight. Ahh, so maybe a friend of his had lost his sight?

"It sort of depends on the person. There are some that seem to be quite oblivious due to the fact that I am able to get around fine on my own these days. Unless you're really looking for certain signs it might be missed." He said, then gave a humming sound before adding, "There are also those out there with magic that can pick up on pretty quickly given the way that I 'see' involves the use of magic."

"Yes, sorry, I was just...pondering." In a moment of openness Sol sighed and shook his head, "I'm...please, please don't tell anyone, but my eyes are getting...bad. I don't want them to know, to worry, but I don't know what to do about it." Keeping everything inside was a frustratingly stressful ordeal for the young teenager. He felt...exposed, and immediately regretted saying anything as soon as he did.

"If I learned how to use magic, do you think that maybe I could hide it from them? At least, a little longer?" Now he was almost desperate. Anything to keep his life 'normal' would be great.

Makani tilted his head to one side as the other said that he was just 'pondering' before it went from that to him admitting what was really bothering him. It would seem that it wasn't a friend as Makani had guessed, it was the boy himself that seemed as though he was suffering from the degeneration of his sight. The poor thing he found himself thinking, not that he said the words out loud. Nobody wanted pity, but instead perhaps some sort of empathy or reassurance that there was still hope out there? Reaching out he wrapped his arms around the boy, pulling him for a hug. Even if it was uninvited it was a show of compassion from the older sage toward the young man that might end up one day in the same spot that he was in.

After a moment he released him, giving a nod of his head, "If you put in a lot of work, then yes, you can use your magic to see for you. It's a technique that I created for myself in my youth but I feel that others could likely use it as well." Giving him a gentle sort of smile he cautioned him, "You could likely learn to hide such a thing from people if you figured out the same sort of technique I use but it will only last for so long before someone catches on, just as you caught on with me."

Sol wasn't ready for the hug; nor was he particularly receptive. He was still, body bristling under the contact. It wasn't that it was entirely unwelcome, he just...didn't know what to do. In a way it felt nice, as hugs usually did, but it was also coming from a stranger and that alone kept Sol's guard up.

But when the older man pulled away...Sol found himself reaching out for his hand. "Would you mind teaching me? I could pay you or even work for the inn; whatever you want. Even if it only lasts for a while that's still more than what I know already."

Makani couldn't help but to give a soft chuckle as he felt the boy go a bit tense at the hug, finding it to be a bit on the cute side. Was he trying to be tough in light of someone he didn't know offering him a hug? Maybe he just wasn't the touchy-feely sort? It was really hard to say since he didn't know all that much about him... and yet he knew more about him then the boy seemed to want to tell many people at the same time. Giving a smile he said, "Don't worry, I will keep your secret for as long as you want me to."

As the other took hold of his hand he gave the boy's hand a squeeze and said, "I don't mind teaching you though it's going to be a lot of playing it by ear since it's not something I have ever tried to teach before. It's a power all my own but if it can be passed on, if it can help someone else, then I want to share it." He thought about the offers for a moment before giving a smile, "Well, since you will want to stick around for a while for the lessons I'd say working for the inn a bit would be a good idea. That in exchange for a room more then anything as I don't require any sort of payment. Being able to help others is all I need."

"Actually! You know what you could give me that would be quite nice and helpful? Your name. Otherwise it might be a little tough for us to interact. My name is Makani."

"Thank you." There was a moment where Sol had been fearful the man would turn him down. After all, maybe it was something that couldn't be taught? Or something that he wanted to keep to himself? So he had waited with bated breath on an answer, then breathed a sigh of relief once it came.

"Deal." Working for his room and board didn't seem to difficult; being around that many people on a daily basis might be hard, but if it would help his future then he was ready to give it a shot. Maybe he could offer to hunt for the inn instead? Or do mostly outside, out of the way work?

"My name is Sol. I'll just have to tell my Papa a story he'll believe, since we came here together and he'll wonder why I don't want to go home just yet."
