Tobia swayed as they walked, humming a soft tune under their breathe that matched the soft twitter of the birds. I wonder where Yngvarr is today, Tobia thought with a thoughtful and wistful sigh, giving their wings a good flutter and enjoying the feeling of the fresh groomed feathers rubbing against their back. Their legs were bare today except for two stacked silver bangles that sat on their front ankle, small stars dangling and clinking together with every step. Tobia's favoriate set of silks were wrapped around their shoulders and draped over their back, the silver strands glistening in the afternoone sun and made their broad shoulders seen smaller. Tobia's feathers have been painstakingly brushed out before taking extra care to wash and groom their tail. The long, fluffy tail swished back and forth behind them as they walk as though doing its own dance. It was a pain to keep the tail clean and often Tobia just let is drag against the ground, but today they felt like keeping themselves clean clean clean.

Tobia giggled to themselves as they walked, Oh my, what a day it might be!

Ayame scurried through the forest, her short little legs pumping themselves as fast as she could run. Butterfly! she thought with some glee, her nose pointed upward in a vain attempt to catch the fluttery, colorful little friend she had just made. It swayed to the left and then to the right and Ayame followed it dutifully. It hovered above her reach, her small stature not even close to being able to catch it but she followed it nonetheless. A giggle erupted from her throat as she stumbled over a rock, tumbled, before quickly righting herself without breaking stride.

A streak of mud covered the side of her cheek now from her fall but it did not do anything to dim her glee as she chased around her new friend. Not even the small, barely noticeable scrape on her knees could make her lose her focus. Oh no, no! Pretty pretty butterfly! Her own wings gave a little flutter as though they could lift her off the ground and join her new friend. Fly fly fly!

Tobia swayed back and forth on the road, dancing in a sort of haphazard whimsy to a song that they hummed. The hum slowly turned into a soft, high pitched whistle and they sang silently to themselves without a care. Whatever shall I do today? Tobia considered with another gleeful swerve to one side and then another. Tobia had been heading toward a nearby village for the last few days, taking their time with their little small adventure. It was a village that Tobia had been to before and had always been...less than welcome to Tobia's company. However, Tobia was never one to give up and was determined that the village would one day learn to love and accept them for who they were. It might just take time, but change wasn't ever made in just a day.

However, the village was still a few days walk away. Tobia considered for a moment, give their wings a good flutter. If they ran, they could likely make it there by the morning or...Tobia's wings shivered against, almost in excitement at just the thought. Tobia could fly but then their scarves and fur would get all mussed. Oh what to do!

Ayame was quickly getting lost as she ran but she was not worried about it. Ayame had been lost for several weeks now, in fact. Every since she had sneaked away when her parents' backs were turned and went looking for adventure. She figured she would find her way back home eventually but until then, there was so much to see and do!

She was fast getting tired though and the butterfly did not seem to be wanting to slow down anytime soon. She slowed her run into a slow jog, her eyes still looking upward at the bright wings of the butterfly. It did a lazy loop above her before flying onward, quickly increasing its distance between her. She finally slowed to a walk, her breath coming out in loud pants and she could finally feel the ache in her legs from her underdeveloped muscles straining to keep up with her natural energy. "Goodbye Mr. Butterfly!" she called out as she finally lost sight of her new friend, her head and butt wings fluttering.

Perhaps I will fly, Tobia considered, already getting excited at the thought. Their wings were spread out, quivering in excitement. They usually preferred to walk from location to location as they enjoyed the scenery and the possibility of meeting new strangers and making friends always was a bright spot. Flying was a rush, but it was so hard to meet new friends when the wind was rushing through their mane and deafening against their ears. It was a thrill, yes, but not the most practical method of making friends. It has been so long since I took a good hard flight and I'm sure my clothes will be just fine afterwards...

Just as they were about to take a great leap, wings ready to bat themselves into the air with the quick launch, the soft sounds of footsteps caught Tobia's attention, Tobia's ears swiveled at the sound and they became distracted, their wings batting a few times softly to re-catch their balance from their poised position. Soft pitter patters and the rustle of leaves and twigs came from their right. Ohhhh~ Tobia considered, already intrigued.

Ayame's breath was coming out in harsh pants as she tried to catch her breath, the running having taken more out of her than she had anticipated. Well, had she done any sort of anticipating at all, honestly. Now that the butterfly was finally leaving her eyesight, she took a moment to glance around her surrounding. Big tree, big tree, bigger tree, she cataloged seriously to herself, noting the pretty white flowers that were sprouting from big tree number 2. The ground was soft and squishy, covered in vines and moss and flowers that size of her face.

She stuck her face into one flower curiously and took a deep, exaggerated sniff.

Nothing.

Ayame's pouted. She had wanted some that smelled nice!

Tobia pushed themselves through the brush, carefully stepping over and around the thick branches to keep them from tearing their delicate scarfs that were draped so carefully over their body. A few times, they reached their long tail up and used it to push the reaching branches to the side. Their ankles jingled with each step but were drowned out easily by the rustlings of the sounds of a very large horse squeezing its way through a small opening.

Tobia finally managed to put themselves out of the other side, a few leaves and twigs caught in their legs and mane, but overall in good condition. Tobia gave themselves a good shake, using their tail to brush their shoulders out and shake out anything that might have fallen into their scarves. They gave themselves a quick once over, fretting for a second of what they thought was a tear in their shawl but dismissing it as a shadow. Crisis averted.

Ayame heard something. She pulled her head away from the disappointingly scentless flower and tilted her head to the side curiously as she tried to hear the strange sound better. Maybe it was a stranger. Or a monster!

She perked up at the thought of it being a monster. How interesting would that be! A real monster that she could see for herself and ask all sorts of interesting questions. Like what monster did for fun or what they ate and if they roared or growled or ate...ate...centipedes! She nodded, satisfied with herself and her conclusion she had built. Yes, it was a monster and it was going to be awesome!

Ayame took a few steps back and moved to turn around, only slightly distracted by the way the sunlight filtered through the trees and made pretty swirly patterns in the air. Her little butt shook with every step and she scurried along the brush before finally finding an opening past big tree number one. What could it be, what could it be?
