Masika let out a breath as she hurried down the street with a box in her hands. It was long and rectangular and inside was a commissioned gown that she had made for one of the noble ladies. She was cutting it close to the deadline. Moving as fast as she could without full on running she moved around the crowd then up some steps to a nice house. Balancing the box in one hand she knocked and when the door opened she entered. She was inside for a few minutes then she was escorted out by none other than the lady herself.
They spoke on the steps and then hugged one another and Masika was off. Once she reached the street again she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She really needed to better manage her time. She also needed a better work space. As it was she was staying in a poor area of the city and her room was tiny. All of her money was being tucked away into saving, at least what she could save. Masika eventually wanted to buy a store on a main street so that she could get more business. For now she worked by word of mouth and if things went well tonight she would hopefully have more orders by tomorrow. A smile formed and she opened her eyes. What to do with the rest of her day?

Shesha had ducked out early, having found himself awake before the 'old man' and took full advantage of that fact. He was walking down the road at a leisurely pace with his magical staff in hand. He meant to enjoy the day, feeling that skipping his training from time to time was a luxury that he deserved since he was starting to get pretty good at the mastery of several elements. Why not take a break? He'd just work harder tomorrow or something he thought to himself as he lifted a hand up to brush his deep red hair back away from his eyes. "I wonder what happened to the little fish." He said to the imp that was lounging on his shoulder at the moment. He hadn't seen him for a while, not since their last run in. He found himself wondering if maybe he'd scared him off. He supposed that it was possible, but if he was so easily chased off then he wasn't worth Shesha's time... though for once he kind of found himself a little miffed at the thought. He shouldn't care if the little fish didn't come back and yet it was still grating... which was yet another reason why he should enjoy his time out. Turning down the street that would take him toward the marketplace Shesha decided that he would make his day better by buying himself something! That always made this better in his mind.

With nothing better to do and not wanting to go back to her tiny room just yet she figured the market would be a good spot. Masika reached down and grabbed her skirts so that she could lift them up a little. She didn't want to ruin the hem anymore than it already was from her jog to make her deadline.
Maybe if she was lucky then she could find something that would give her some inspiration for her next dress. A fabric or a gem. Anything that stood out. The hybrid smiled to herself as she walked down the street. The idea of finding something to help her begin a new project was more than enough to make her happy. Masika loved making dresses for the noble ladies to wear.

As he went Shesha found his eyes scanning the area around him, seeking out the one that was currently filling his thoughts, but without much luck. It seemed as though it wouldn't be so easy as that even if he had run into the little fish on a few occasions in the marketplace. Today wouldn't be so lucky a day as it seemed that On'os was likely helping someone else today. A rather grand shame but he couldn't look to the Gods and Goddesses to aid him every moment of every day or where would be the point in all of his hard work? Upon the scan though he found at least one interesting looking person walking around. A rather excitable looking female that appeared as though she were at least part fish and part... oh, what were they called again, Alkidike wasn't it? It was really strange how many foreigners, even those of mixed blood, who were in Oba these days. He couldn't say that he cared all that much himself about it but it was still interesting to see. Watching the changes between when he was younger and now was kind of fun and it kind of made him curious about all of the strangers entering Oba and what exactly they all might be up to. No reason not to say hello if they ended up at the same booth if only because he was bored. Might as well fill the time off that he had by greeting the strange looking half breed. She wasn't his little fish but at least she appeared as though she might be interesting.

She had grown used to people staring, so when another in the crowd started to look at her Masika was practically oblivious. Instead she was humming to herself, some type of cheerful tune, and letting her eyes gaze at the shopping stalls. So many interesting things. The hybrid did enjoy the markets of the larger cities.
When she noticed a jeweler's stall she made a bee-line right for it, a smile on her face. While she had no intention of buying anything she did hope to find something that would inspire her with its design. Since there were so many she felt confident that she would find at least one that stood out among the other shiny objects. "Oh, how precious." Masika said as she looked over a ruby crystal bracelet accented with a soft orange and gold. It made her think of burning embers in a way and soon she was picturing a design for a dress. Something she would need to sketch out later to make sure she could make it.

Shesha found himself following the odd girl for a bit, wondering if he was really that bored that he was people watching in the marketplace of all things. Someone like that wouldn't help him even in the least bit when it came to climbing the social ladder, how could she, and yet he found interest in her. He was starting to think that too much like with that idiot 'old man' was starting to effect his brain in a negative manner. How could allow himself to get so distracted when the ones that he should be showing interest in were those who were of higher station. He wanted to become noble himself or something equally as amazing and yet here he was following some half breed about. As she stopped at a jewelry stand he did the same, hoping to distract himself with shiny things. A nice new bauble, maybe something to accent his throat, that should get him back on track. He thought that before the other drew his attention again, this time because she seemed to be commenting on something being 'precious'. He turned to glance her way, taking in what she was holding, before he said, "A bold choice for one of your skin tone. I like it. Something that stands out so much will definitely get you noticed." Which for Shesha was the most important thing in the world. One didn't want to just fade away into the background after all.

A voice startled her and she looked up at the one who spoke. "Oh! It's not for me." Masika smiled at the male. She found that he was a bit.. over dressed. Or at least it appeared as though he was trying too hard to be noticed. Her mind began working on a design that would compliment him better, a habit that happened with almost everyone now. Her eyes looked him up and down as secretively as possible. "I was just looking for inspiration. I deign dresses." A small chuckle was given at the tail end of her statement.
The hybrid thought about extending her hand to the man but didn't know if he would have the same attitude as some other Obans about her mixed blood. So instead she gave a nod of her head toward him. "My name is Masika." He hadn't asked but she figured she would offer her name anyways.

"A shame then." He said as she said that the piece she was looking for wasn't for her. It was nice for one of her coloration but it was too dull for him. It would blend in too much and be lost given his own coloration. As such he looked away from the piece to look the others over, finding one with a nice, bright green stone that he found he rather liked. It was called a peridot if he recalled right and he found himself debating on if it were the one he wanted. At least until the girl said she was 'looking for inspiration' and that she 'designed dresses'. Turning to look her way he lifted an eyebrow and asked, "Is that so? Do you work in one of the shops around here?" He knew of most of the shops in the area but couldn't recall ever seeing her within one of them when he visited. Was it because of her mixed blood? Perhaps she was kept in some back room to do her work so as not to chase off the more conservative sorts? As the hand was held out to him he starred at it for a moment before he finally took it, giving it a little shake, before he said, "My name is Shesha." No reason not to be polite since he was curious about the seamstress work that she did, who she did it for, and what her skill level was at presently.

Was it a shame? Masika didn't think so. She could come up with some really good designs by looking at beautiful jewelry. Though when he asked her if she worked in any of the shops she giggled and shook her head. "No. I never thought to seek employment at any of them since I'm a hybrid. I work out of my apartment." Room really. She would eventually have her own space just not right now. Not that it hindered her skills any. Masika had discovered that she worked rather well in the small space.
"Nice to meet you Shesha. Are you from around here?" Many people lived close to the large market in order to have access to things so she wondered if he did the same. This market was a bit out of her way but it had the best things unlike the smaller ones throughout the city. Plus she had just delivered a dress not too far from it.

Worked out of her apartment? Hard to really gauge what that meant or if her skills were any good if she didn't sell things out of a well known shop. That meant it was sort of walking a tight rope with this one. Either she was hiding in her apartment making amazing things that nobody knew about or else she was deluding herself by toiling away all day by herself. It made him a tad curious which one she was. Giving a half smile he said, "A shame that you don't work out of one of the shops or else I might be tempted to take a peek at your work." "Hm? Yes, I am from around here." He said simply, seeing no reason to elaborate presently. One had to be careful with the company they kept and those that they allowed to know where they lived. It was bad enough he allowed an in training assassin to know where he lived after all. Best to be cautious until he knew more about the seamstress he thought to himself as he turned back to the booth, his eyes sliding over the various pieces. "So, you were thinking of making something based on rubies and gold then?" He asked of her, motioning to the piece of jewelry that she'd been inspecting, "Or did it not spark anything inspiration wise?"

The young woman thought about it for a moment. Being in a well established shop would get her things seen more easily, but she kind of like the exclusivity she had at the moment. So far only three noble women and one noble man wore her things. In truth the one lady had her quite busy since she wanted to commission Masika for baby clothing. "Maybe one day I'll move into a shop but for now I mostly make things to order." It ensured that each piece got her full attention and was custom to fit the person that wanted them.
The vague answer that he lived nearby was all she got and Masika blinked. It seemed that he didn't wish to share more. Which was alright. Shesha managed to distract her with a question about the jeweled piece she'd seen. "Oh, yes. The colors are rich and work well together. I was thinking that a lady with a darker skin tone would look stunning in it." It would stand out enough to gain attention but so much as to be an eye sore.

Shesha nodded again, "Interesting." Maybe things to order, eh? It caused him a moment of interest but again if he didn't know exactly what her work looked like he couldn't bring himself to have more then just a passing interest. He didn't have as big of an allowance since he'd left his last patron behind so he couldn't risk the money he had on a dress that might not be up to his standards. He might have to way for the day when she had a shop or her own or joined one that was already establiished. Turning to look her way as she spoke of colors being 'rich' and how they work well on a woman with a darker skin tone. He gave a slow nod of his head as he studied the bracelet she could be right about that and if her work was any good he was sure there was a woman out there that would be eager for such a dress. Not quite flashy enough for Shesha but still, at least she sounded like she knew what she was doing, right? Picking up another piece he set to studying it, this one being a piece that was made with purple jewels instead of green ones, "So do you get a lot of work the way that you go about it? Surely it must be difficult?" She wasn't established, she didn't have a shop of her own, surely that must be tough? It made him wonder for a moment if she had other work on the side or perhaps a rich patron of her own? He was more then certain that there would be Lords and Ladies out there that would find great interest in one such as Masika.

She thought about it for a moment then shook her head. "Not as much as I would like, but I can't complain. I have a few ladies that are repeat customers. I actually just dropped a dress off earlier. Mrs. Novia will wear it to a party tonight." Masika smiled at the thought. Her creation would be seen by others and it would look wonderful on the noble lady that wore it. It had been tailored specifically for her after all.
"I made my own dress as well." Masika looked down at her gown. The layers, the materials, all of it. She was most proud of it because it had been her first real accomplishment.

Shesha turned to look at Masika then, a look of keen interest appearing on his face now, "So you have higher ups as customers then?" He was sure that he'd heard the name Novia before which made the young woman before him appear as that much more interesting now. So she had important customers, did she? It made him curious if she knew much about her clients and if there was anything that he could get out of her. Giving her his best smile he asked, "Any idea who it is that is throwing the party that Mrs. Novia is going to?" And was it just Mrs or was she high up enough to be considered 'Lady'? Was it a party that was worthy peeking into if he could talk the 'old man' into going? He supposed it depended who was throwing it, who was going, and where the party was that made it something one really wanted to go to. He was distracted for a moment from his fishing for information as she said she had made the dress she was wearing. He gave her a once over, taking in all of the details, before he asked, "Very nice... so how long does it tend to take you to make something?"

"Higher ups? You mean Noble Ladies? Yes." Masika nodded her head with a smile. "Mrs. Novia is just one of the few ladies I design for." And if all went well tonight she would hopefully have another lady or two.
When asked about the party that her patron would be going to she thought for a moment. "I believe she was going to Lady Sarosca's party." Of course that was a lady she had yet to meet and design for so here was hoping the dress would impress.
As she thought about it more she heard Shesha ask her about the time it took to complete a project. "Depending on the level of complexity it can take me a few days." Her dress had taken her four days to complete and that was because it had so many layers.
