Welcome to Genesis City, home to what is the largest split city of humans and monsters. Humans own half of the city, more like 5/8 of the city and also have control over most of the city hall. Monsters own the other portion of the city which humans have ended up calling Monster City or the Halloween District. Humans and monsters generally live side by side in harmony where they work off each other's differences. Its not to say that people haven't had their fair share of disagreements between each species. Many humans have their trust of the monsters but some still have issues getting along.

Darke Investigations is a small family detective agency, started by Derek Darke and his younger brother Cody Darke. Cody had just recently gotten out of school after passing the police academy with his detective badge. Derek was helping his brother work out some fear he had of monsters since Darke Investigations was specifically set up to help out anyone in the halloween district with false crimes pinned on them. Derek believed that monsters were just like humans, they all deserved a chance to show their innocence. Cody wanted to help people but he had a bad childhood experience with a field trip when some other humans pranked him when they visited the halloween district.

It was shortly after Cody's 21st birthday when his brother and him were working in the halloween district on a case of a vampire who was accused from stealing bags of blood from a hospital on the edge of the human owned district. They were on the trail of a human black market that had been the agency's true culprit but while they were there, something attacked them. Cody was injured and was dazed and could only watch as his brother was killed, clawed to death but some kind of monster. Blacking out, he woke to his brother being dead, mangled basically from a true monster and it shocked him to his core.

A year later and Darke Investigations has basically gone quiet and even though its still open, Cody hasn't done anything much to go into the halloween district. He helps human investigations but rarely takes on any cases that involve monsters since the event. He office his brother ran was below their apartment they shared and Cody tends to keep everything organized on his brother's half of the room, leaving as it was. Cody felt like his life had finally stabilized, that is till a monster woman walked into his office looking for help from the brothers who were known for helping monsters, having not known that the brothers weren't working for monsters.

It was a colder evening in october, fall was still setting into the city as many of the trees continued to turn brown in color. October was always an active time of the year since the humans got ready for the change in climates. This past summer was a hot one so humans and monsters alike were ready for the change. Darke Investigations, the sign hung by the front door but had a closed sign hanging on the door. Cody had finished dusting and cleaning his side of the office and looked over at his brother's side. He left his brother's side of the office hadn't changed, aside from cleaning up trash in the beginning and keeping it dusted, everything was left where Derek left it. Cody was getting through a couple of police files that were sent to him, placing each in one of three bins on his desk, unfinished, finished and returns. The returns was basically any that dealt with monsters of any kind since he still had a grudge against them.

Cody was sitting at his desk, reading over a file and his hand skimming over it with one hand, the other holding a cup with whiskey in it. He was close to calling it a night when he heard banging at the door followed by the paniced voice of a woman. He sighed a bit, setting the glass down and clicked a button under his desk. The door unlocked with a buzz and she was allowed inside but when she would walk inside, he hadnt looked up from the file, "Im sorry but Darke investigations is closed for the night, if your needing help then it can be prolonged till early morni..." he trailed off as he looked up at her and saw that she was clearly not human, "Actually, i. Do not handle monster cases... please excuse yourself from the building, darke investigations is closed to all monsters." He stated a bit cold and didnt look her in the eyes.

Cody looked at her when she spoke, he could see that she was in need of help but anyone, human or monster could put up an act. When she began to speak about him and his brother he thought it over, "Obviously another reason i dont care for you monsters... dont really keep up to date on those that help your kind... you want to know why i dont, go ask my brother. Hes about four blocks south, two the the east, if the cemetary at the park is still open his headstone is in the upper left corner." He said as he swigged his drink down, "Besides, give me one reason why i can trust that your innocent?" He asked a bit coldly, its a hard thing to prove but if she answered right, he would consider helping. When it came down to it, she came to him to find and help her with the truth, which most wouldnt, they would run and hide.

He could hear the sound of her voice, it was honest and she was saddened by his news but thought it over. He looked at her phone and wondered just who this woman was. He thought it over, her phone wasn't all though, he would need other info. He turned his attention to her before sighing, "Fine but if the evidence is damning, Im taking you in myself." He said as he poured more whiskey and moved to his desk to access the computer. He figured any evidence would be in computer, "Alright, lets see... A man was killed, death by a high fall, evidence is moth wing dust and hair of suspect found on body. Suspect is mothwoman neighbor Eden Majik." He looked up at her, "Witness testimony also puts suspect at scene. Time of death, a hour and a half ago. Autopsy to be done in the morning... victim shows signs of bruising on body, and blunt force to the back of his head..." He read that last part a bit confused, "Wait... are you even strong enough to lift a person?" He asked curiously to her, he didn't know much about mothpeople, their weren't an abundance in the halloween district.

Hearing what she said, he was starting to see that pieces werent coming together, "Alright well aside from that fact, you still could have push him off, you both have access to the roof but, whats bothering me, is that aside from being neighbors, their isnt a motive for you to kill him and no offense, your arms dont seem strong enough to leave this kind of blunt force trauma on his head... unless he had hit somethibg on the way down but i cant tell for certain, the photos are classified which is odd." He tried making sense of it but could see her smile, "Dont be all cheerful yet, your still guilty till proven innocent but this doesnt sit right, either someones not doing their job right or some foul play is a foot." He stated thinking she could be tricking him.

Cody looked over the files, finding that the victim had a couple of properties but their seemed like something was off. He copied the files to his phone but stood up, "Well then, we need to go a few blocks north of here. There is info missing from these files as if they were audited or shifted somewhere. And the victim has a contact i need to speak with. He said putting her phone in his coat pocket to hold onto, "You are coming with me so i can keep an eye on you, remember, if i find damning evidence, im taking you in myself, understood?" He stated as a fact.

Cody looked at her when she spoke, seeing that she followed behind him but after a short amount of time, he heard her outburst and figured it was coming, "You know the reason... my brother died and I am still not taking it well... im the last of my family, he was all I had and he was taken from me." He stated as he walked, for having downed some whiskey, he didn't seem affected and yet he didn't consider himself an alcoholic, he just had a high tolerance. He looked at her, "Got any other personal questions you would care to ask?" He said a bit annoyed wondering just what else she would want to ask since she seemed fidgety as they walked under each passing streetlamp, the night setting in.
