Powering up was one of the biggest chores that Albireo had now. It simply took too much effort to power up and leave her house and do all of the things that she was supposed to do, mostly when she powered up, it was simply to get somewhere she couldn’t get normally, like the top of some building so she could sit and look up at the stars, which was clearly the only good thing that came of the whole rigmarole.
It was a good thing she had fallen off the radar…a good thing that nobody seemed to remember her anymore. She was just one of the corrupted who had faded into obscurity. It wasn’t like the Negaverse was a family. No.
No. She had known for years now that such words were simply designed to trick people…like herself, into joining up and losing everything in the process.
If only there were a way to go back in time and just…prevent all of this. If she could have prevented ever meeting Zinkenite, or getting involved with Jarosite…
If she hadn’t let their words affect her so much…if she had found comfort with those in the white moon...well…
Dwelling on such thoughts would only make things worse.
Albireo gave a long sigh and drew her knees close to her chest, hugging them and resting her head against them. It just wasn’t worth it.

The spider was back.
It had been gnawing at him for three days now. It kept him awake, tempting him with power and pleasure and all the usual things that he fought against. Naturally, he grew irritable and distant and spent most of his time silent or out of the house.
Tonight its insistent whispers sent him to the rooftops for air. He bounced around until he found a rooftop with Albireo, who was surprisingly powered up for the first time to his knowledge in a long time. Jarosite sat down next to her, rubbing his temples and gave her a small smile.
"It's rare to see you powered up, love." Silver eyes watched her quietly, expecting little reaction. Their relationship was tenuous at times, and Jarosite had long learned to let Albireo speak in her own time and not press her.
No matter what the spider wished him to do.

Well. Think of the devil, and watch him appear. Albireo slid her green eyes over to look at Jarosite as he sat next to her. For a long moment, she said nothing, then, finally, she reached over and slid one of her gloved hands into his. “Sometimes I just like to see the stars, that’s all.”
She knew she hadn’t needed to answer him…but sometimes she wanted to…and even though she blamed him for many things…she loved him too…it was so complicated.
“…Are you all right? You’ve seemed off lately…what’s going on, Jaro?” Her voice was soft, and there was even a touch of real concern within it, something which had been absent more often than it was present. “We both hide so much from each other…it’s a wonder we’ve stayed together so long…” She let her eyes close and sighed, enjoying the cool breeze as it brushed across her face.

His heart fluttered as she threaded her hand into his. It was so infrequent she showed affection towards him, each little gesture warmed his chest. His smile faulted a little at her question, and he dropped his eyes with a sigh.
Don't tell her, whispered the spider, there won't be enough for both of you...
She was right. They hardly told each other anything and she deserved to know. He scratched the back of his neck with his free hand, and sighed again.
"I... I don't know how to really... explain it. I... hunger. In the way youma hunger. Dunno what caused it, if staying in the Rift for so long training had some sorta effect... or if its a side effect of consuming a starseed." Silver eyes glanced over at her. "It's been going on for about a year, but I had... quieted the hunger. Apparently not indefinately..."

It took another long moment for her to respond, though when she did her head was turned to fully look at him, a small frown pulling the corners of her mouth down. “So…you’re turning into a youma? Like a half youma? Are you growing any extra limbs? I met a half youma once and he had six arms. I’m not going to lie, it was kind of a turn on meeting someone with six arms, Jarosite.”
The frown was almost replaced with a smile, or at least something that was starting to resemble a smile. The closest expression to a smile that she had worn in a very long time, though it was short lived.
“…How often do you have this hunger? Is there something you can do about it? Is there…something I can do about it?”
Her hand squeezed his gently and her thumb softly caressed the back of his hand. “Be careful, Mer…I may not say it…but I need you. You’re honestly the only thing I have now…and I need you.”

He blinked at her for a moment, before his expression turned into a wry grin. "Oh I see, two arms aren't good enough for you anymore. You gotta have hands everywhere." Jarosite chuckled at her and leaned over to n** at her nose. He sobered up some and rolled a shoulder in a shrug.
" I... don't feel like I'm turning into a youma. I think you have to eat a metric ton of starseeds for that." He squeezed her hand gently, off put by the geniune concern her voice.
"I... usually eat a starseed when it gets impossible to handle. Just one. Then it's quiet for months. I don't know if it's going to get worse, or more often; I try to stave it off as long as possible so I don't lose myself to it. I've seen those who have and... that's not an outcome I want. I don't want to lose myself, or you." Jarosite kissed her cheek.
He glanced out suddenly, eyes tightening in thought. "I don't know if there's anything you can do but... you once asked me if I would go to the White Moon with you. I.... get the feeling that might be the only thing to cure it. Maybe if I don't have Chaos in me... I won't hunger."

This time it wasn’t her aloofness that prevented her from speaking for a good minute, but utter shock. She stared at him, mouth hanging open slightly. When she finally found the controls for her voice again, all she could really manage to stammer out was a shaking “Wh-what…?”
Was he serious? He would purify with her? She could…she could really try and go back…and he would come with her?
For the first time in years, a sparkle came to her eyes and for the second time tonight, a smile began to creep across her face, though again, it was beaten back quickly by a great dose of reality. “But…but Jaro…Merric…What if you forget me…what if I forget you…I…there’s memory loss with purification…I spoke to someone about it…I…what if I forget everything and…”
She swallowed and the happiness that had bubbled up was replaced and doubled by worry and a wave of nausea. “I’m miserable…what if this just makes me more miserable…? What if you forget me…?”

He crushed her to his chest in a hug, hand cradling her head. Memory loss was... a thing. It seemed the only way the universe kept a balance among the war. Wipe the minds of those who chose to change sides. Really freaking mean but on some level he understood the reasoning.
Kinda.
"Then we fall in love all over again. Nina... I would cross five, ten, twenty-five thousand lifetimes to bring you back to me. We're bound by something stronger than this. That's what I believe."
He guided her chin up gently, smiling at her. "We are in this together, love. Whether we're Chaos or Order, or something entirely different. "

Albireo gave a soft gasp as the air left her lungs with the force of Jarosites hug. She stiffened a moment, and finally relaxed, wrapping her arms around him and squeezing him with as much strength as she could muster as well.
“Okay…Let’s do this. Let’s do this and let’s get you feeling better and make sure you don’t grow four extra arms…no matter how sexy that might be…”
When he lifted her chin, she made a face and pressed closer, closing her lips against his.
She wanted to kiss. Wanted to be close to him…
…She wanted to see him in white. A beautiful knight, a beautiful knight with her on his arm…
They could fall in love again. They would fall in love all over again…this was going to be okay…she was going to go home...
She was so happy. Finally she felt like maybe, just maybe things could go right. Maybe this was the right path for her…for the both of them.

There was nothing in the world like her. No one like her. He kissed her with the desperation of a man barely holding onto himself, fingers a little too tight in her hair. In the back of his mind, fear curled around the spider and festered. What would he be as one of them? Would the Negaverse hunt him down or forget his existence, as they already did? He tried to smother it down, ignore it, and focus on the better parts. No more hunger gnawing at his mind, tempting him to kill and consume. No more feeling useless and forgotten. Besides...
The white swan had always suited his lady better.
All he'd ever known was the Negaverse and Chaos, yet by his choice or otherwise, he'd made himself obsolete among it's ranks. The new order of things didn't sit well with him, either. Sowing distrust and suspicion in the ranks, holding family members hostage... Not his style.
The rest he'd deal with as it came, with her at his side.
